volunteers make all the difference We see elderhood and disability as an opportunity for continued wellbeing and growth and our impressive team of volunteers contribute to support this vision. No matter how much or how little time volunteers have to give, they make a huge difference to the lives of residents and staff. Volunteers are truly a valuable part of the Knox team. We hope you can spare some time to join the volunteer team helping the Knox community.
Staff support With around 200 residents, there is always help or assistance needed somewhere. Here are some of things you can do to support our staff: • Serving morning tea or preparing the dining rooms and helping at meal times • Joining in games and activities with our teams • Supporting the physiotherapy team in the gym • Supporting the administrative team
• Weekend receptionist relief • Helping at the Olive Café and Residents Shop • Folding, labelling and distributing clothes
Resident companionship Some of our residents need nothing more than a chat over a cup of tea or a friendly arm to lean on when they go for a walk, while others need a little more help. Volunteers spend one-on-one time with residents, to form meaningful relationships and assist them with their daily tasks, like gardening, caring for pets or using their computers. You may even want to get involved in bigger projects, like organising social events or fundraising. Residents love visitors and the special skills they bring.
Elder support This is a specific role to help residents who may be experiencing pain or loneliness. All elder support volunteers will undergo a Police record check. Volunteers interested in elder support will start in another role for a few weeks to become familiar with residents and the Knox culture.
Firm friendships and bonds are created between residents and volunteers, contributing to a richer life for both
Help us with the time that suits you We do not have a minimum time requirement to become a volunteer. Tell us honestly what you can commit to (weekly / fortnightly / monthly visits) and we will find times that mutually suit. We only expect that you choose a realistic level of commitment and communicate with us if you need to occasionally miss a shift.
Our priority is finding generous volunteers who want to spend meaningful time with residents
