Bodysnatching

In celebration of my absence I packed more than one body, buried my hands, dug mountains of clothes, books (token of my future talent), photographs (reminders of my childhood, my inner child), amulets hidden between shoes, bars of soap, medicine; I stored music, film (my hobbies), tried to keep only what was necessary to survive. But when I disinterred this time capsule, I discovered a different kind of absence, a phantasmal stowaway in the compressed air of my suitcase; I forgot to pack you and now I regret it. I regret not having stolen your body, and every day I feel my old life’s funeral is getting near.
