Over the summer we’ve discovered a new star in Lauren Hood (Little Voice), teased you with Theatre Brothel (parts of which then transferred to the Almeida and Arcola theatres in London), parked 150 scooters in Theatre Square on Ferensway to celebrate our sell-out production of Quadrophenia, completed a critically acclaimed national tour of The Lady in the Van and collaborated in two of the hottest shows at the Edinburgh Fringe – including Scary Gorgeous by Rash Dash, co-commissioned by Hull Truck, which scooped a coveted Fringe First Award. This Season opens with the heart-warming and heartbreaking drama, The Glee Club, set in the pit villages of 1960s Yorkshire. Originally directed by Hull Truck’s founder, Mike Bradwell, at the Bush Theatre in the late 90s, this brand new production makes its debut in Hull with a superb cast and with some of the best close harmony singing you’ll ever hear! Director Natalie Abrahami returns to Hull after her acclaimed A Midsummer Night’s Dream (‘reminds you why you love theatre’, Yorkshire Post) with a special co-production between Hull Truck and The Gate Theatre. Together we have commissioned a stunning new translation of Lorca’s classic play Yerma. November welcomes John Godber’s The Debt Collectors – a hilarious new comedy from one of the nation’s favourite playwrights. Hull Truck’s grown-up/family seasonal treat is The Flint Street Nativity by Tim Firth (Calendar Girls). James Holmes (Alan Bennett in The Lady in the Van) and Lauren Hood (Little Voice herself) return to Hull for this uplifting, fast-paced comedy, which is joyful and deeply Christmassy! - from 8 December – 14 January. In November 2009, eight performers embarked on a 3500 mile jouney aboard a cargo ship. Now their experiences on the voyage are delicately intertwined with seafaring tales from around the world, in this visually stunning play about life at sea.
This show is called ‘Man v Woman’. It’s really 2 shows in one. The first half will see Lee in his element doing his new stand-up show, and then in the second half he presents his unique game show ‘Man v Woman’.

by Morgan Sproxton Hull Truck Youth Theatre present a play about being a girl - and being a soldier. Writer Morgan Sproxton (Ring Around the Humber) explores the motivations, the lifes and the losses of young women who become part of the wars which surround us all in 2011. A special commission from Sproxton, Hull Truck’s Creative Associate for Young People, who works with young playwrights and the theatre’s Creative Learning team throughout the year, to fire their imaginations and create work especially for the young people of the city.
