The new city culture centre locates in the former Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou. The project is composed of a urban design project and four architectural design projects. The concept of urban design "Guangzhou Well" stems from the spatial urban structure and environment of Guangzhou. Three-floor sinking plaza with ceiba tree provids open space with shade and view for the public in respond to the large amount of precipitation and high temperature in Guangzhou. An underground hotel is proposed as in the centre of the plaza. The Guangzhou Well will become one of the urban icon besides the Baiyu Mountain and the Guangzhou Tower . In the design of Guangzhou Museum, the urban concept is carried along. Three underground floors are fully open to the public, directly connecting to the sinking green plaza. Printed wire fence and steel grids are chosen as the major materials of facade, on which collage of the city now and in history will be displayed. A large media "cube" with LED facade inside as well as outside displays the stories of the city, providing different spatial experience for visitors. The Museum tends to go beyond a neutral container for the history, trying to captures the essence of the city not merely in the past but currently.
