The Ethnographic Collections of the University of Ghent comprise some four thousand objects from non-Western cultures, assembled between 1825 and the present day. The most extensive collections consist of objects originating from Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. Our aim is to make these three collections more widely-known, by way of separate publications, to members of the international scholarly community as well as to the broader general public.
The present catalogue marks the beginning of this effort, presenting a selection from the group of around four hundred objects that go to form the Oceania collection.
