H UEGEL HIGH LI GH TS
O C TO BE R 2016
from Mr. David Bray
What a great start to the 2016-17 school year. As we ease into daily schedules and routines I am proud of all the work we have done to teach the Huegel expectations to our students. These include being safe, respectful, and responsible. When you walk through our quiet hallways you can just feel the positive energy and the buzz of busy learning taking place! I am so excited to be back at Huegel as your interim principal. After having been here for 13 years prior to Ms. Potter, I certainly consider Huegel my home away from home. We’re going to have a great year! I will keep you posted as plans are being made to begin the process of identifying the new principal. We are thrilled to welcome the following new staff members to Huegel! • Alana Allette: 5th Grade Teacher • Kayte Cunningham: 3rd Grade Teacher • Iris Patterson: 4th Grade Teacher • Mary Luchsinger: CC Teacher • Tiffany Mason-Fass: CC Teacher • Garrett Debbink: .2 Music Teacher • Ryan Everson: .2 Art Teacher • Julie Foster: Special Ed. Assistant • Almudena López-Valbuena: BRS continued to next page...

Of particular importance for our families is the focus on two-way communication with families around learning; we are always looking for ways to improve our communication! Please feel free to reach out to me, your child’s teacher, or any Huegel staff member with ideas about how to do this. I will also look forward to seeing families at our Open House on Tuesday, October 4. Wishing you and your family all of the best, David Bray Interim Principal

Huegel Lego League Huegel Lego League is up and running! We have three teams of 4th-5th graders and five teams of 1st-3rd graders who will be building Lego creations, programming robots, and learning about interactions between humans and honeybees or other animals, and solving a problem of their choice that relates to these animal interactions. They will have a tournament in early November to showcase what they learned, and the 4th-5th graders’ robots will compete for points with other Lego League teams. Thank you to the many Huegel families who donated to make Lego League possible! Thank you also to ETC for their grant award, Latino Parents Group for donating the proceeds from their food sales, and to other business sponsors--Baer Insurance, Ayers Furniture, Thirty-One by Jessica Flowers, Chili’s WestTowne, and Dykmans Time Shop.
