HUDSON STUDENT BLITZES THREEMINUTE THESIS FINALS
Hudson Institute PhD student, Zoe Marks, blitzed the Three Minute Thesis Competition finals, winning both the Institute and Faculty level contests, and was runner-up across all Monash University PhD students. Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) celebrates research conducted by PhD students across Australia. It cultivates presentation and research communication skills by challenging students to convey the significance of their research, avoiding scientific jargon, in just three minutes.
“Being at the Hudson has ignited a life-long interest in medical research. I’m in awe of the power of successful research and the potential to impact whole populations; there are no limits to the depth you can go.” “Completing a PhD at Hudson Institute has given me the opportunity to explore beyond clinical medicine. I am increasingly interested in oncology and aspire to continue work on breast cancer as a clinician-researcher,” she said. Zoe’s 3MT presentation, ‘Cancer signatures in blood; Reading the fine print!’, explained her PhD thesis, which is investigating interferon (IFN) signalling in breast and ovarian cancer. She hopes to shed light on the role of IFN in the progression of these cancers and potentially discover a novel IFN therapy.
