THURSDAY 21 OCTOBER, 7.30PM KIRKLEES CONCERT SEASON ORCHESTRA OF OPERA NORTH - BEETHOVEN’S FIFTH HUDDERSFIELD TOWN HALL Our complete survey of the Beethoven symphonies is launched with the most famous opening phrase in all music. Nothing like this had been heard before, and its influence can be clearly felt in Tchaikovsky’s first and best-known piano concerto. At the helm is one of the country’s most daring interpreters of this repertoire, Douglas Boyd. The historic City of Edinburgh, by rail Saturday 4th December Join us for a special day trip departing from Huddersfield to the stunning historic City of Edinburgh. On arrival at Edinburgh, the break will allow you ample time to explore this important architectural and cultural centre. Its magnificent architecture shifts from the lofty buildings of its medieval Old Town, as they tumble down the spine of the Royal Mile, to the grace of the Georgian New Town. Above it all, in its towering splendour, stands the Castle. In a world of chain-stores, Edinburgh is an antidote to the bland and the over-familiar. You’ll find all sorts of specialities and eccentricities amongst the traders of the Royal Mile and Victoria Street - perfect for a little pre-Christmas shopping. The major stores however can be found along Princes Street and a visit to Jenners – Edinburgh’s answer to Harrods – is a must. The nearby Princes Street Gardens will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland, complete with fairy lights decorating the trees, an Ice Rink, a Funfair and a German Christmas Market with a vast array of stalls selling hot food, mulled wine, crafts and gifts.

Approximate Timings: (Will be confirmed around 2 weeks prior to the trip)
