PART I: THE DISCOVERY AND GIVING BIRTH OF REFLECTION ART BY WORKING ON BODY SHIELD PAINTINGS FOR A “””””””””””””””””””””””””””“””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””” BALETT PROJECT ””””””””””””””””””””” Having always been fascinated by all sorts of historical shields from the ancient Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek to the medieval times, decorated with a coat of arms and a verity of various symbols and logos representing a particular clan, empire or kingdom, or the vividly painted colourful shields of the tribal arts of Africa and Oceania with an astounding variety of most aesthetical archaic designs, have always inspired me and been a provocative temptation to design my own body shields to create a new fashion of combining painting with body fashion as hangable carry-around-pictures. Reflection Art is a discovery I made by pure coincidence, enjoying experimenting with fluorescent acrylic colours; while working on a ballet/art project, in creating a series of body shields (carry around paintings) in a variety of forms and colours for a simple choreographic dance presentation to Ravels Bolero, consisting of transporting 33 shields one by one worn by two NAKED ballet dancers appearing carrying a shield from behind a paravent dancing the shield, through the gallery displaying it to the audience and hanging on the gallery wall and so complete her choreographic ceremonial dancing mission to return to the starting point behind the paravent to collect the next shield and release the other waiting dancer to appear with the next shield from behind the paravent and proceed to follow suit dancing her shield displaying it through the impatient and surprised audience, to its set hanging space, and hang ceremoniously onto the walls and again return to starting the point, setting off the next dancer in procession. The audience at first is surrounded by empty white walls and not being in on the plot until the event begins to unravel, must be held back in suspense and be distracted from leaving the gallery, by intensive supplying with luxurious little snacks and drinks and told not to leave as something is about to take place. When enough audience has gathered, the


music begins and the dancers begin their choreographic odyssey of transporting each shield one by one dancing into and around the standing audience displaying the shield, until having danced the last shield through the crowd ending to the music’s crescendo-finale synchronising with the hanging ceremony of the last shield to which she then declares the exhibition to be open. So to fulfil this idea and project, I began working on the first of the 33 shields, by mounting cut shells and cut out relief forms attaching them to the front side of the shield and painting the surfaces. The back side surface where the grip is mounted, I compared to the coloured inner silk lining of a luxurious dinner jacket, blazer or tuxedo, and decided to try out and use orange florescent acryl paints. (My first confrontation with florescent paints was being fascinated by an erotic lithograph in my Fathers art collection done by Niki De Saint Phalle in the early 70ties where she was using florescent paints, and this set me off also to experiment with florescent colours as long as it would not develop into kitsch.) Using Florescent Orange acrylic colour to paint the backside of the shield to achieve an extra zip of colour intensity surface in an elegant flashing effect of colour explosion if carried around or danced with, twisting to choreographic body movements, like the flapping of a jacket in the wind exposing its beautiful coloured silk inner lining. The two handle grips I constructed out of two 4 cm wooden cubes of which the lower is connected with a wooden pole serving as a handgrip and the upper armrest connected with an adjustable rope for the upper arm. The Grips I coloured indigo giving it a Japanese aesthetic feeling in contrasting to the bright florescent orange colour. Having proudly finished my first body shield picture, I hung it onto a white wall to study the outcome. To my amazement I realised that the Florescent Orange colour painted on the hidden backside of the shield was REFLECTING onto the white wall from its sides embedding the shield on the white wall in an orange aura! The florescent colour-reflection is based on the flooding of light from the surrounding sides into the space in-between the two surface-layers held up by 3-4cm wooden pillars.


An intermezzo of light polarising between these two layers radiate an orange aura embedding the relief-cut outs. The light projected frontally onto the relief cut out forms create an added shadow thrown onto the orange aura also projected onto the white background intermingle, and are in continuous change of space and time adapting to the surrounding changing of light conditions taking place, which mechanically are processing the past, present and future by projection, polarisation and reflection of light. This processing, further enhances and intensifies the orange aura reflected from underneath, giving the cut out forms a 3rd and 4th dimensional interaction by blending light and colour with form and shadow projection, creating a futuristic prismatic effect. In realising that I had discovered something new altogether that goes much further than just reflecting thrown shadows, here I was colouring the thrown relief shadows with orange from underneath, giving the relief picture an interactive futuristic light projection play into a third and fourth dimension created out of seven basic physical elements.

to blend into the relief composition

Strangely enough by reducing or turning down e.g. an artificial light in the exhibition room, seems to accelerate the polarisation process and so intensifies the reflected florescent colour to become stronger reflecting onto the white background surface.

LIGHT CATCHING SAIL


I first thought of the classical wall hanging pictures developing into relief-pictures, and the first reflection picture emerged into three BLUE MONSTER FORMS and a BLUE SUN communicating with each other and became so alive in their form play that they inspired me to the delightful intention of working on a whole series of them.

I managed to complete a series of 20 colourful Reflection Art paintings experimenting on colour and form play and completed one Reflection Art Sculpture Title: “LIGHT CATCHER SAIL” One Reflection Art armrest lounge designer chair in homage of Grace Kelly, with a hidden drawer titled “ARCTIC VISION”.


Two Reflection Art lounge designer tables titled “JAPAN“ in wood and “ROSEBUD” in wood/glass/mother of pearl shells furnishing a secret compartment for documents and jewellery with a concealed magnetic clasp. One wall hanging sculpture titled “FLOATING GREEN SWAN”! Due to financial reasons having to give up my studio and having no proper working space, the BLUE MONSTERS (s. b.) had to wait for better times to proceed in production, and I began working on other art projects that I could accomplish in my small apartment.

PART III THE PEACEMOVEMENT OF THE 1960ties, Yellow Submarine and The Blue Meanies: “””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””” Having grown up in the 60ties with the Peace and Freedom Movement, demonstrating in the streets of Vienna and Berlin against the Vietnam War and South Africa´s apartheid racism and the political suppression and exploitation of the III. World, and the great concern of the Middle East conflict escalating, I was aware that it´s up to the educated people and intellectuals responsibility to express constructive criticism to their governments in taking stand in speaking up for the oppressed and poor people, and the coerced soldiers victimised through drafting, to fight wars of the elite on false pretexts. After 911 and the Iraq War, realising that history was just repeating itself, I began doing research on finding out the roots of the cause and effect of our failing political systems and 2013, I stumbled over the Beatles animation film "YELLOW SUBMARINE" full movie, which was at the time free of cost available to see in you tube, shortly afterwards due to copyright reasons it was expelled from you tube. Out of sentiment of past remembrances I saw the whole film through till the end experiencing it again 45 years later, amazed to find out how UP TO DATE and POLITCALLY VISIONARY this film was, and began seeing it with new and completely different and more critical eyes and insight as when I was 17 when the film was first released. Being able to reflect upon through the many years on acquiring researched knowledge and insight of understanding history political science and cultural movements, made me become more aware of the brilliant humoristic historical odyssey of reflections, symbolisms and their politically pointed content with hidden messages covering our cultures of past, present and a vision and solution-projection for world peace reaching into the future. In the storytelling script of the film, reflecting a post-world war society jet still with the same sociopathic corrupt, warmongering corporately ruled governments at war over and over again fighting artificially constructed and engineered wars created with constructed enemies to dehumanise and depopulate and destroy cultures causing war trauma and chaos and war debts.


The Beatles were THE reflecting Zeitgeist MUSIC ICONS of the revolting anti-establishment young Flower Power generations of the pop music-world and a perfect selection to focus the story on to become the main protagonists, for the creation of the film Yellow Submarine, initiated by a group of 6 British and American most creative art producers, scriptwriters and art directors: Sir George Martin Lee Minoff Al Brodax Jack Mendelsohn Erich Segal and Heinz Edelmann They worked together for 9 months, improvising and brainstorming to give birth to this brilliant ZEITGEIST animation film of " YELLOW SUBMARINE" telling the story of the psychopathic destruction of Pepperland by an aggressive sadistic greedy hatemongering and music and culture hating domineering group of Blue Meanies destroying everything in their way, all taking place in an utopian Pepperland, devastating a perfectly harmonious Judeo-Christian society cultivating peace and happiness. The primary message to the world in this film is, reconciliation with enemy perpetrators, and their conversion from evil to good through culture itself represented in Yellow Submarine by the music of the Beatles “ Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band” with the BEATLES being chosen to become the MESSIANIC saviour heroes with their song "All You Need Is Love". LOVE being the universal key in solving all cultural conflicts through creating a love and peace culture in itself by uniting all people together through universal Judeo-Christian ethics of love for one another and love for thy neighbour. The song "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" is the important message of the Beatles to the world, to unite in love through love itself.


Music is to play a key role in generating catharsis and collective healing by emotionally energizing GOOD VIBRATIONS and motivating the world through GENERATING positive and harmonious PSYCHO-BIO-ENERGETIC VIBRATIONS creating more love-bio-energetic fields transporting the universally understood truthful culture of humanistic ethics manifested in Judeo-Christian ethics as one of the most powerful world solutions and to dissolve HATE and replace with LOVE and TOLERANCE and supersede our conditioned selfishness, racism, greed, envy and revenge, that cause greed, violence, wars and the destruction of mankind. Treating the truth as a moral enlightenment, to create peace and love promoting social intelligence and peace-loving cultures. Following John Lennon and Yoko Ono´s peace activities also well documented in the Internet, immediately I picked out the BLUE MEANIES in the film as a theme to replace my BLUE MONSTERS giving them a meaningful purpose in my own interpretation and picture-storytelling sequence of the Blue Meanies as a series and as in the film eventually are converted to Judeo-Christian Blue Meanie Heroes saving the world from destruction by uniting with the world in peace and harmony. This realisation motivated me in creating a new art project for world freedom and peace, and made it irresistible for me not to immediately start working on, and so gave me the idea to improvise and start making small scale paper models of reduced sizes 1/10 that I can accomplish in my apartment, and so proceed and complete my concept and work out artistically in models for future usage. My idea is to artistically bring forth a NEW SOCIETAL FOCUS on this ZEITGEIST VISIONARY FILM “YELLOW SUBMARINE”


with its brilliant colourful humour and hidden political and historical content of sublime playful symbolisms create a focus on the perpetrators being the BLUE MEANIES to which we ALL are part of, as there is a Blue Meanie in each of us that needs to be ethically converted to doing goodness and in such, revitalize the PEACE MOVEMENT of the 60ties to reactivate the older nostalgic generations and also include, through the Beatles music which have become classical Icons also appreciated amongst the younger generations, and give way to uniting the generational gaps of old and young into joining one united peace movement. So 44 Blue Meanies developed and were created over the summer of 2013 into beautiful colourful paper Reflection Art model pictures adding 7 pictures with masks rounding up the story to a positive enlightening ending of THE CENTURY OF DEMASKATION floating masks blowing gently in the wind like a tree letting go of its leaves answering to nature`s seasons.

The production could also be done on white traditional canvas backing with the front cut out forms mounted onto the Canvas and screwed on to a wooden supportive board backing behind the canvas revolutionizing the usage of the traditional painted canvas.
