November 6, 2012 To the members of the Visiting Committee: We would like to welcome you to Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls and thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to help us improve our school. We hope you enjoy your time with us. As you read our report and walk our halls, we would like to give you a brief summary of what this process has been like for us. We began Excellence by Design in the late winter of 2011. The internal coordinators were selected, a planning team was assembled and we all dug in, attending workshops and scheduling meetings. We received the date of the visit --April 17-20, 2012. As the new school year of 2011-12 began, we were making great progress… mission statement, beliefs, goals…all in place. Our subcommittees were gathering data and meeting regularly. And then everything changed. On January 6, 2012, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Archbishop Chaput announced Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls was one of the schools marked for closing at the end of the school year-devastating news to say the least. All work of Excellence by Design ground to a halt - all of our energy went into saving our school. For a long and emotionally draining 7 weeks, we rallied and we fought to raise money and raise awareness to help us stay open. Thanks to the heroic and tireless efforts of many, especially our students, several faculty, our alumnae, and our Advisory Board, the joyous news of our reprieve was announced on February 24, 2012. There was still lots of work to do and money to be raised, but at least we knew that we would remain open. Throughout all this turmoil, the Excellence by Design process had been on hold. The April EbD visit had been cancelled and so now, we needed to regroup and get on with our self-study. In May, the evaluation process began anew but with many changes in the planning team and the administration. There were also many changes in the entire Archdiocesan financial structure of the schools. The “Faith in the Future Foundation” was now in control of the finances of the schools. We have been playing catch up ever since. We hope you can appreciate the difficulties we have experienced - working on a Middle States visit and being told your school is closing and then attempting to pick up the pieces when the decision was reversed. As you review our document, we want you to be aware that we have done our best under some stressful and extraordinary circumstances. Sincerely, The Internal Coordinators
