“The Importance of Adequate Sleep” People who regularly sleep six hours or less a night may have a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and high blood pressure and may be more likely to eat more and gain weight. If you have trouble sleeping, these tips might help: Regular aerobic exercise may improve the quality of your sleep so you can wake feeling more rested. Try a warm bath 90 minutes before going to bed; the dissipation of heat afterward can set off the physiological trigger that tells your body it’s time to go to sleep. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same times each day. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can disrupt sleep.
