JERRY JENSEN Pharm. D.

“Protect Yourself from the Winter Sun” It’s important to protect your skin and eyes from winter sun. Snow can reflect up to 80% of the sun’s rays, causing damage to uncovered skin and unprotected eyes. Winter sports in the mountains increase the risk of sun damage because there is less atmosphere to block the sun’s rays. Even cloudy skies allow UV rays to pass through. If you are going to be in the sun longer than 20 minutes, use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF of at least 15. Wear UV-filtering sunglasses to protect your eyes.
