HEARTMonth Raising Awareness Symptoms

of a HEART ATTACK

The American Heart Association reports that heart disease claims the lives of 800,000 Americans annually; we need to focus on optimal cardiovascular health. Smoking cessation, eating fruits and vegetables (rich in heart-healthy antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals, natural proteins and dietary fiber), regular exercise (aids in healthy circulation and prevents build-up of plaque along arterial walls, stabilizes blood sugar and cholesterol levels, regulates blood pressure), and incorporating stress reduction techniques such as yoga or meditation into our daily routine (helps prevent excess cortisol, which may lead to metabolic syndrome, significantly increasing risk of heart disease) are well-known preventive It’s the heart of what we do... steps. ...from Prevention, Early Detection to Intervention

The National Heart Attack Alert Program notes these major symptoms of a heart attack: •Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back. The discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain. •Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. This can include pain or discomfort in the arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach. •Shortness of breath. This often comes along with chest discomfort. But it also can occur before chest discomfort. •Other symptoms. These may include breaking out in a cold sweat or feeling nausea or light–headedness.
