Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

Three techniques: subtractivee methods, addictive methods and transformative methods. computer numeric controlled fabrication is also called two-dimensional fabrication, which including laser cutting, plasma-arc cuting and water-jet cutting. Parametric modeling uses the computer to design objects. Parametric models use solid and surface modelling design tools to mainpulate and play with system attributes. While additive fabrication is used to increase a form and to add material in layer. Formative fabrication is the process of heating and steaming materials into forms.


Week Three

Surface Creation

The two different surfaces want to create a space have small entrance in ground floor but large space for event area. The left side is more curvy while the right side is more flat


Week Four Panels & Waffle

The panels are divided into two parts, the left part is the pyramid shape without cap while the right part is the hollow triangular shape

Due to the different degree of the surface, the waffle make two different sizes of opening.


Week Four

Laser Cutting

The waffle laser cut is easy just need to join single elements together, when doing the panel, there are many problems with the tab, the line is alway what I exactly want, so use mirro to flatten some line and delete.


Week Five

Using platonic octahedron to replace the sephere, the random size platonic octahedron makes different size of opening.


Week Five


The 3D print I did is a part of building, the opening represent windows and doors. When doing the model, I want to creat visual difference, on the right side, the shape becom smaller from left to right, on the left side, the size of shape is in a random way. When using the rectangle to cutting the model, I choose to make the right side thicker and left side thinner.


Week Six Task 01

Task 01 Matrix I assumed the model as a mussuem, and give it an orientation. Using dot to show the polyester fibre panel. Did some research on wheather situation in Melbourne and analysis how this would be work


Week Six Task 02

People can enjoy view from outside through these windows

The west side is much thicker than the other side for two reasons, the west side facing the summer afternoon sunshine and also block the voice from the other side

The opening is smaller but still can get light into the room from the sky roof.


Task 02 Matrix From the learning in task1, I assume this model as the inside of the museum and doing the further design. Explain how the opening works and analysis on the shadow and light.
