Edinburg Economedes’s Leigha Brown and Harlingen’s Randy Bermea lead RGV with Hopes of Making it to the State Track and Field Championships May 11-12th in Austin, Texas
(Edinburg, Texas)-With the Class 5A Region IV Track and Field Championships set for this weekend at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, Harlingen sprinter, Randy Bermea is set to lead his team in the 400 meter relay race after winning the 31-5A Track and Field Championships held at Cats Stadium in Edinburg. On the least leg, Bermea re-injured his heel but that did not seem to stop the University of California (Cal)-bound senior to winning two more gold medals in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. He also won first place medals in the long and triple jumps. In all, Bermea nabbed five gold medals. “My heel was re-injured after I messed it up in practice jumping,” Bermea said. Junior standout, Edinburg Economedes’ junior Leigha Brown of Edinburg Economedes won four gold medals and also set a new Valley record in the 100 meters hurdles with a 13.97 second mark and also earned a trip back to the State 5A Region IV Track and Field meet in five events.
