Dallas East Vibhag - Bala - Monthly Newsletter

Namaste, bala friends!

The month of February is important to Hindus for several reasons. First, we have the holiday of Vasant Panchami, which was celebrated on February 14 this year. This holiday, also known as Sri Panchami, is celebrated in many parts of Bharat and Nepal. We celebrate this day by worshipping Goddess Saraswati, who represents knowledge and creativity Vasant Panchami is also important because after a long winter, we can start preparing for the arrival of spring and all of its wonderful colors. Bright yellow mustard flowers bloom at this time of the year That is why many people wear yellow clothes and enjoy yellow-colored foods such as rice on this day.

The second important day for Hindus this month is the birthday (Jayanti) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on February 19. He was the founder of the Maratha Empire and tirelessly fought for Hindu freedom against Mughal oppressors while upholding Dharma. He is a true Hindu hero!

As Hindu Americans, the entire month of February is also notable for us because it is Black History Month. It is important for us to learn about African Americans and their fight for freedom and equality throughout history.

Finally, congratulations to all of you on being creative and sharing your talents through Bala Mitra magazine! I hope that you will continue to write, draw, and tell the stories of the Hindu culture and community as you get older

If I was a Brown Bear

If I was an animal preparing for winter, I would be a brown shy but intelligent bear Bears have the largest relative brain size of any carnivores. Brown bears know when they are being hunted by a hunter or another animal. A bear has excellent hearing ability. Bears hear high pitch. Bears see in color and have good vision similar to humans. Bears are fast, they can run more than 60 KPM(37 MPH) Brown bears have a good sense of smell, which enables them to sniff food from a far distance. Brown bears are very active at dusk and night. If I was a brown bear, I would use all of my awesome abilities to hunt and gather food.

If I was a brown bear, I would use all spring, summer and fall months to prepare for winter. I would eat about 90 pounds of food each day until I am very big in size. I would eat berries and salmon. Bears often weigh around 180-600 pounds in these months, which helps them get ready for hibernation. I only have a few months to eat because as winter comes I would not eat, drink, urinate or defecate. All I would do is sleep and more sleep. I would shed the extra fat during this time. To protect myself from the cold, I would build a den with a narrow entrance First I will choose a large tree, or logs or a cave Then I will start digging. It would probably take 3-7 days to finish digging the den. Once the den is set up, I will get leaves and branches into the den for insulation. It will keep me warm in winter. Even though I would be inactive during hibernation, I would be vigilant and wake up quickly if the den gets flooded, or if there is any sign of danger Until spring comes….sweet dreams everyone!

My experience of performing Surya Namaskar at school

My experience of doing Surya namaskar at school was good. It was a special thing to do because this was my first time doing it. It was also my first time doing it with a group that does not go to shakha. I got to spread this special type of yoga around my classroom. I even walked them through the special things it does to help our body. After that, we did the main part, the Surya namaskar. We all did it together step by step.

After doing Surya namaskar with others for the first time, I felt I was confident to do it more. My friends told me that they loved it and got energized. This made me feel good because I showed them my leadership skills. When we were doing Surya namaskar, it made me happy because people were happy and it made the mood seem nice.

Why I Like To Go To Shakha

I love attending Shakha for various reasons. For me, Shakha has always been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I go to Shakha to stay rooted and connected to my culture and continue learning about the Hindu Dharma There are several activities and things to do for everyone The main reason I love going is because I believe Shakha provides each person with a sense of belonging and togetherness.

To begin with, Khel is my favorite part of Shakha. I love the different kinds of games we play, which allows me to engage with other Shakha kids My favorite Khel is dodgeball and gaga ball

The best part about Khel is when we separate into teams and get to compete with others in games. I find that team games are a great way to get to know each other and learn teamwork.

The next thing I enjoy is exercise and yoga Yoga is calming and has many benefits My favorite yoga is Surya Namaskars. I like how there are multiple steps and parts. By doing yoga, I feel more fit and calmed. It has been a great habit for me and has encouraged me to attend Shakha.

Another reason I like attending Shakha is because of Boudhik. As part of Boudhik, we learn a variety of lessons from teachers and gain religious knowledge Learning how to recite different shlokas is very fun and is a great learning opportunity. Each shloka represents another lesson about life.

To conclude, my Shakha experience has been very beneficial for me, and these are the reasons I like to attend Shakha.

Happy Birthday!
