Promoting the Walk

Welcome, KPMG Employees of KPMG recently spent an evening at the HSBC for a Yappy Hour. They enjoyed drinks, light snacks and snuggling with animals, all while supporting the shelter. Yappy Hours are scheduled during the week from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and include a tour, pet toy-making activity, and beer, wine and light snacks. (What a great idea for an office holiday party!) Groups are welcome to bring food in for the event, or we’re happy to add some pizzas to your Yappy Hour reservation. The cost is $35 per person. For more details, contact Katie at 954.266.6875 or

Ahoy Sea Tow!

Our friends from Sea Tow Fort Lauderdale stopped by with donations they collected from their members during Ruff Seas Week in July. The HSBC partnered with Sea Tow Fort Lauderdale to promote pet safety while boating. WSFL TV did a segment on their show with host Jessica Alpern; the HSBC’s Dr. Fischer helped educate boaters in regard to pet safety and boating.

2017 Walk Committee volunteers are out and about in the community sharing information about the HSBC’s biggest fundraiser – Walk for the Animals. We’ll be at Mutts & Martinis in downtown Fort Lauderdale on November 19, and the Bow Wow Bonanza at Greynolds Park on November 20. Stop by and say hello! And if you know of a community event – not necessarily pet-related -- where we could set up a table to reach lots of people, let us know! We’re especially looking for events that will be held in January and February. Our Walk Committee volunteers are also available to come to your office to do a presentation to encourage more people to take part. To learn more, contact Linda at or 954.266.6817.

Team-Building Fun

Our Friends from Keiser University

The HSBC offers an excellent team-building opportunity for companies or groups: taking part in a Pawsitive Service Day at the HSBC. Your group will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility, then will get to work with dogs, cats and maybe even some other critters, as well as enjoying a pizza lunch. A minimum of 10 employees or group members must attend, and we can accommodate up to 25. Service days are held Monday – Friday from 11:00 – 2:00, and we ask for a $25 donation for each person planning to participate. Want to book your Pawsitive Service Day? Contact Darlene at 954-266-6848 or
