We're Making Pit Stops
n early September we held our first-ever Pit Stop event at the Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park. The idea was to promote the adoption of “bully breeds,” of which the HSBC sees many. These include the American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, American bulldog and others.
Wristbands were sold which entitled the buyer to a discount on beer, and people could buy a chance to win one of several gift baskets. Our Pet Boutique was also on hand selling pet-related items and unique gifts. Larry Warsh Photography took photos of people with their pets in exchange for a donation to the shelter.
Many who attended brought their dogs to join in on the fun – Funky Buddha is always pet-friendly, as they have an outdoor area that accommodates both two- and four-legged patrons. The HSBC’s adoption team introduced four of our current bully breed guests that were available for adoption. The dogs’ sweet demeanors helped to dispel some of the pre-conceived notions that people have of the breeds.
Over $1,100 was raised through donations, wristband sales and gift basket chances, and nearly $400 in boutique sales was tallied.

We’re hoping to visit other places of business, to introduce our wonderful bully breed friends to more of the public. If you can help us to spread the good word about these often-misunderstood dogs, and to raise some funds to take care of them at the same time, please contact Darlene at email@example.com or 954.266.6838.
Andrea Silverberg, the HSBC's Customer Service Supervisor, made sure everyone bought a chance to win a great gift basket.

CrossFit for the Animals In late September we visited a fundraiser at The Training Pit CrossFit in Hollywood, introducing the group there to Meat Loaf and Blue, two bully breed dogs looking for their forever homes. It was a workout for a cause, with a one-hour session targeting all levels of fitness and raising funds for the HSBC via the $10 participation fee. Nearly $400 was raised!
