undraising has started in earnest for the 2017 Walk for the Animals. Packs are being formed and people are getting their walking shoes ready for our largest fundraiser of the year. Favorite sponsors will be returning, along with some fresh new faces. Our 27th annual will take place on March 18 in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Be sure to mark your calendar! Walk day is a celebration of months of fundraising, with proceeds going to the animals in our care and the programs that we offer. Last year our enthusiastic and dedicated walkers raised over $525,000 for the animals! This year our goal is even higher. Remember, the more money raised, the more animals we can help.
You can walk as an individual, or it's easy to form your Walk Pack (team). Simply go to walk4theanimals.com, register, choose a name for your Pack, and invite friends, family and co-workers to join and donate. Some of last year’s creative team names were Boxers or Briefs, Puppy Peddlers, and Stilish Paws, to name a few. Your Pack can be named after your pet, your business, or anything you choose. Once you’ve registered, you can set up a personal fundraising page that easily connects with your Facebook, Twitter and email. The face of the 2017 Walk for the Animals is our Cover Dog, Chiquita Mia (she goes by Mia). This beautiful five-year-old Chihuahua mix was adopted at our shelter by the Ramos family and she couldn’t be happier. Mia’s journey began when she was found abandoned and was brought to our shelter. At a scant four pounds, she was skinny and frightened -- until her new mom showed up. Mia immediately jumped into her arms and plastered her face with kisses. It was love at first sight for both of them. Dogs like Mia are fortunate when compassionate people visit us to find a new pet. When her new family was told that Mia was deaf, it didn’t faze them at all. The bond formed quickly and has grown stronger through the years. Her new family adapted by
teaching Mia hand signals, which she quickly picked up. They’ve reported that she is smart as a whip, and is loved and very spoiled. What better dog to represent the Walk as our Cover Dog? Join us in fundraising so that we can continue helping dogs like Mia -- and cats, Guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits -- to find their forever homes. Be a part of the 2017 Walk for the Animals and raise $2,500 or more for the chance to have your dog as our 2018 Cover Dog. For more information, or if your business is interested in being a sponsor, contact Linda Sanders at 954.266.6817 or email email@example.com. To register, go to walk4theanimals.com; you can start fundraising today without ever leaving your home!
