Parks and Recreation Youth and Seniors Activity Scholarship Application Policy: It is the policy of the Town of Huntersville Parks & Recreation Department to provide recreational opportunities to all the residents of Huntersville. Some programs require the payment of a fee to cover the expenses incurred by offering the program. Realizing the need to include all residents in these opportunities, the Town of Huntersville will offer ﬁnancial assistance to the youth and seniors of Huntersville meeting the guidelines listed in this document. The number of scholarships will be offered to twenty percent (20%) of the spaces available in each program. The twenty percent (20%) of spaces available for scholarships will be split in half between the ﬁfty percent (50%) discounted rate and the twenty-ﬁve percent (25%) discounted rate. If all scholarships are not used by the end of the registration period those who received scholarships may receive the original discounted rate until all discounted funds are used up for that particular program. One scholarship per household per program, unless there are unused scholarships for that particular program at the end of registration, which then will be given out by ﬁrst-come ﬁrst-served basis. Applicants will be required to provide proof of income with the most current W-2 form or ofﬁcial documentation from CMS of meeting eligibility standards for ﬁnancial assistance. Failure to provide this information will void this application.
AVAILABLE ASSISTANCE If a resident qualiﬁes for reduced price meals through the CMS eligibility standards, they will be eligible for a discount of twenty-ﬁve percent (25%) of the published fee. If a resident qualiﬁes for free meals through CMS eligibility standards, they will be eligible for a discount of ﬁfty percent (50%) of the published fee.
INCLUSION Huntersville Parks & Recreation Department welcomes individuals of all abilities into its programs and activities as well as encourages the individuals to participate as independently as is possible in the activity of his/her choice. If you are not sure what type of assistance or reasonable accommodations is appropriate for you in a particular program, please contact the Department Staff.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION All program registrations are handled through the Parks and Recreation Administrative Ofﬁces located at 105 Gilead Road, 3rd Floor. To register for a program listed, please stop by to complete a program registration form. The registration form must be complete and the full program fee must be paid at the time of registration in order to be ofﬁcially registered for the program. Classes can ﬁll quickly and registration is ﬁrst-come ﬁrst-served. If we receive any cancellations, people on the waiting list will be called to register for program. *Registration on programs will close one week prior to start date scheduled for program unless another program deadline applies. Returned check fees $25.
REFUND POLICY In developing a refund policy for the Parks and Recreation Department, the Administration would like to make it clear that the intention to give refunds will be priority. The Department aims to please the consumer and would never intentionally cause the public to be unsatisﬁed. In trying to develop fair and consistent policies, the Department realizes that there will be cases where special circumstances will arise. Those cases will be evaluated on an individual basis if the request and reason is submitted in writing to the Programming Division. Please understand that the following guidelines will be used to issue refunds out of fairness to all parties. 1. Participants may request a refund for any program for any reason. All refund requests must come to the Administrative Ofﬁce of the Town of Huntersville Parks & Recreation Department. No requests may be taken off-site at programs or other facilities. 2. A complete refund will be issued if a participant withdraws from a program prior to three (3) business days of the start of the program or if an activity is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. 3. A partial refund will be issued according to percentage of program completed.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE OF CHARLOTTE This unique program is designed to pro- EDUCATION PROGRAMS vide a safe, fun, & structured environment where children can participate in recreational, educational, social, cultural, & physical activities during the after school hours. This program is held at the Waymer Center in Huntersville. CMS Bus transportation will only be provided from Blythe Elementary School. An additional $15 transportation fee per month will be imposed for all students not attending Blythe Elementary School. After School Enrichment Program payment schedule is divided in ten (10) months & the ﬁrst payment is applied to the ﬁrst month. KIDS OUT FUN DAYS Mom and Dad have to work, but your kids need a fun place to be. Come join us for KIDS OUT FUN DAYS!!! Please provide a bag lunch for your child unless informed otherwise. Early drop off is available at 7:30 am for $7/child. Trips are subject to change. Please get in before the deadline, no late registrations will be accepted.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE OF CHARLOTTE Creative Drama Creative Drama classes offer a playful introduction to performing. Students express themselves, build confidence, explore their imagination and develop social skills while learning theatre concepts and terminology. New materials are explored every session and change each year to create an engaging experience as children progress through the program. CHILDREN’S THEATRE OF CHARLOTTE My Spotlight (Ages 3-4) Each week a new journey is taken as stories come to life through creative drama and movement activities. Social development, public speaking and theatre concepts combine this fun, creative exploration. CHILDREN’S THEATRE OF OF CHARLOTTE School of Theatre Training School of Theatre Training classes are geared toward students who are dedicated to studying the skills and techniques of theatre, both in acting and musical theatre. Students build on their knowledge by moving through ﬁve graduated levels of programming. Students who participate in SOTT are invited to audition for OnStage, a unique performance opportunity.
Level 1 Foundation Classes: Grades 3-12 Classes are designed for students in grades 3–12 entering the School of Theatre training program. Classes broaden students’ knowledge as a performer and introduces them to a foundation of theatre skills. HS FENCING OLYMPIC SPORT Beginners Charlotte Fencing Academy is proud to offer Olympic Fencing to beginner fencers of Huntersville. Students who have previously taken classes are also welcome. Coach Colleen Gallant will be instructing students on the fundamentals of footwork, blade work, and tactics involved in this fast paced Olympic sport. All equipment is provided by Charlotte Fencing Academy. Students should wear comfortable clothing and athletic type shoes. Students will actually be fencing with each other by the end of the 6 weeks.
For the Intermediate Class: Charlotte Fencing Academy is offering Intermediate Olympic Fencing to those who have taken the beginner class. This will allow students to continue their quest to become better fencers and learn more about this exciting sport. Students will learn more about tactics and will add new skills to their game. STUDIO ART CLASS Artist Stefan Duncan holds an ongoing studio art class where students/artists can
create their works of art. Classes are open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Critiques, instruction, and guidance to ﬁnding your own voice are part of every class. Stefan has been dubbed the “American Van Gogh” by the Van Gogh Gallery and creator of the styles Squiggleism and Illuminism. He is a full time artist and was recently featured in Art Business News and noted by the Plein Air Paint Out in Florida as one of the top 30 plein air artists of the country. PILATES Denise brings the Classical Pilates Method to the Town of Huntersville. Designed for a variety of levels the Pilates Mat class focuses on understanding the Pilates Principles and learning the exercises in their most pure form. This multi-level mat class combines ﬂow and precision enhancing the ﬂoor routine experience. Class is 55 minutes long. All participants will need to bring a mat and a towel. YOGA BASICS Learn a gentle but challenging approach to yoga including proper breathing, gentle stretching, gradual strengthening, mental focus, and the art of relaxation. This class is for beginners and those who want a gentle, mindful yoga practice. All participants will need to bring a yoga mat and a towel. Yoga is done in bare feet, so please wear comfortable clothing that allows for ﬂexibility. DOG TRAINING CLASS Puppy Manners and Socialization Classes (Ages 10 weeks through 6 months) 4 week class – $125 This class you will attend with your dog once a week for 5 weeks and each lesson is an hour long. Puppies will play and socialize off leash while you learn and observe their body language. We will also cover foundation training for sit, down, stay, leave it, coming when called and walking loosely on a leash. I will provide help on desensitizing your puppy to various household items that may frighten them. I will also provide help and tips on any “doggy issues” you may be having--biting, jumping, housetraining, etc. We will also play games and learn some fun tricks! Basic Obedience and Manners Class (Designed for dogs 6 months & older who have not been in a formal training class) 5 week class – $150 This class you will attend with your dog once a week for 6 weeks and each class is an hour long. Dogs will have a few minutes to play and socialize but the majority of the time we will be asking for more attention, manners and obedience. We
will learn how to teach our dog the commands for sit, down, stay, walking loosely on a leash, coming when called, and leave it and other commands .We will use treats at ﬁrst then we will start to wean our dogs off of the treats. I will provide help on any “doggy issues” you may be having--biting, jumping, housetraining, fear issue, etc. We will also play games and learn some fun tricks! Puppies (under 1 year of age) that have completed this class are also eligible to be evaluated and tested for the AKC S.T.A.R program. Intermediate Group and Manners Class (Dogs must have completed a basic obedience class) 6 week class – $175 This class is designed for dogs 6 months and older who have completed a basic obedience class. We will learn more advanced commands and practice longer sits, stays and downs. We will learn heel; hurry heel; easy heel; place or park it, sitting and staying with distractions and time added and work on many other more advanced training techniques as well as play some games and learn a few tricks! Canine Good Citizenship Class (Dogs must have completed a basic obedience class) 6 week class – $200 This class you will attend with your dog once a week for 6 weeks. Each class will have a speciﬁc training lesson which prepares your dog as well as you with the skills required successfully completing and passing the CGC program.Testing will be held during the last scheduled class. SPECIAL EVENTS National Night Out On Tuesday, August 7th, 2012, neighborhoods throughout Huntersville are being invited to join forces with The Huntersville Police Department and thousands of communities nationwide for “National Night Out.” National Night Out promotes crime and drug prevention. The event will be held at Birkdale Village. Events will commence at 6:00 pm starting with a parade to include the Mayor of Huntersville, Chief of Police and Town Commissioners. There will be numerous other activities for children such as slides, moon bounce, dunking booth and displays of police, ﬁre, and medical vehicles, including music. The academy will offer tennis instruction to players of all ages and skill level. ATHLETIC ASSOCIATIONS The following organizations provide youth sports activities in the area of baseball, football, softball, basketball, cheerleading, and soccer. They are volunteer organizations with which the Parks and Recreation Department co-sponsors activities.
Huntersville Youth Athletic Association www.hyaasports.com and www.huntersvillebaseball.com HYAA has been in existence for over 30 proud years serving the youth of the Huntersville community. HYAA takes great pride in emphasizing the importance of fun and fundamentals in a healthy and safe environment for every child in the community. HYAA’s programs include youth baseball (spring and fall), girls’ softball (spring and fall), and both boys’ and girls’ basketball in the winter. HYAA offers Huntersville’s only “girls’ only” programs in basketball and softball in addition to its boys’ programs and has documented mandatory minimum play rules for all of its recreational intraleague events. HYAA also offers competitive and tournament opportunities in all of its sports as facilities, interest, and coaching support allows. HYAA has documented and published mandatory play and game rules for all of its recreational league events and emphasizes the critical relationship between character and team athletics. The baseball program is afﬁliated with the PONY (Protect Our Nation’s Youth - est. 1951) organization and provides opportunities for elite players to advance to nationally recognized PONY World Series Events across the country as well as play in local competitive tournaments when possible. The Lake Norman Giants (LKNG) participates in Pop Warner Football. Pop Warner is the largest and most recognized youth football league in America. There are approximately 20 Pop Warner related organizations in the greater Charlotte area. The governing body for all these associations is the Mecklenburg Optimist Club. LKNG offers tackle football at ﬁve distinct levels of play. The age and weight varies from ages 7-14 weighing from 45 to 160 lbs. It is designed to maximize safety while allowing similar size and age kids to compete in tackle football. The registration fees are $295/participant. Financial assistance is available. LKNG plays its home games at Hough High School. Parking and admission to the games are free. LKNG also plays games at other association locations around Charlotte. The ﬁrst game is traditionally the ﬁrst Saturday after Labor Day. Mitey Mite teams play earlier in the day, at 9 AM or 11 AM and the older aged teams play later in the day.

YOUTH SOCCER - We offer all levels of soccer starting at 3 years of age. There are year round seasonal leagues with a pathway for kids from beginners that play recreationally at the Strikers Center to the most competitive levels that play with FC Carolina Alliance (FCCA) all over the State in Academy, Challenge and Classic teams.
