Howard Perch: 3 Reasons to Continue Exercising in Cold Weather


Howard Perch, a passionate leader in hospital administration, knows that exercising provides a plethora of benefits, which is why it can feel disappointing when the weather gets cold. However, exercising in cold weather can be beneficial to the body for numerous reasons such as the following:


While we tend to spend most of our time indoors during the winter months, exercising in the cold weather gives us the opportunity to be outside and soak up a little vitamin D, which is incredibly difficult to naturally get from our food and can help with the slump that many of us feel during this period of time

Reason #1


Studies have shown that spending time in cold weather helps convert white fat into brown fat, which boosts the body’s capacity to burn more calories while white fat favors accumulation.

Reason #2


Exercising outdoors in cold weather may help us burn more calories as our body needs to expend more energy to keep warm. Shivering alone burns a high amount of calories in order to manage temperature balance, and this can be a great deterrent to the typical winter weight gain.
