Make a second wedding Couples planning to get married do so with the intention of spending the rest of their lives together. Few couples exchange rings thinking divorce or the loss of a spouse is in their future, but some marriages do end. Happily, that reality does not prevent many people from seeking happily ever after once again. A recent study from the Pew Research Center found that many people who were married before are deciding to take the plunge a second time. Four in 10 new marriages in the United States now include one partner who was married before. Roughly 42 million American adults have gotten married a second time — up from 22 million in 1980. The Pew study also discovered that more men than women are likely to get remarried. Around 65 percent of previously married men have a desire to remarry, compared to 43 percent of previously married women. Men and women about to get married for a second time can consider the following tips to help make the day one to remember forever.

5

stand out •Don’t feel boxed in by old-school etiquette. Rules have relaxed with regard to weddings. Many couples put their personal imprints on their weddings and do not feel the need to conform to outdated expectations. You don’t have to skip all of the frills of a first wedding the second time around or head to the local courthouse and pass on another big wedding. Do what feels comfortable to you, whether that means throwing a big party or hosting a smaller affair.

• Be open-minded with your wardrobe. Let the formality of the event and the time of day when you’re getting married influence what you will be wearing instead of perceived etiquette or family notions. It’s acceptable to wear white again if you so desire. Plus, more mature couples have a sense of what makes them look good, rather than opting for trendy outfits.

• Let past experience serve as your guide. You’ve been married before and can use that to your advantage. It’s likely you know what worked for the wedding the first time around and which things you probably could have changed or done without. Maybe you were stressed about having everything go perfectly or feeling like you had to put on a show for guests. As a more mature person this time around, you no doubt realize that sharing this special time with the ones you love is the most important wedding component of all.

• Recognize that a second wedding is in no way less important than the first. Couples should remember that this is still the first wedding for the two of them as a couple and it should be seen as just as special as any other wedding celebration. It’s easy for men and women marrying for a second time to be hard on themselves, especially when thinking ahead to the gifts that were given and the money spent by guests for their first marriage. But a new relationship and love is worthy of a good party. Friends and family who are supportive of you shouldn’t have reservations about helping you celebrate.

• Above all, have fun. Couples know what to expect the second time around, so stress usually doesn’t stem from the unknown. You may feel more relaxed at a second wedding, so let that ensure you have a great night.

Helpful hints when planning floral arrangements When planning their weddings, couples may find themselves becoming experts on subjects they previously never gave much thought. Thanks to the cost of weddings, today’s couples must make each decision carefully, and that may result in hours of research and discussion. One of the big decisions couples must make when planning their weddings concerns their floral arrangements. The right floral arrangements won’t break the bank but will add substantial aesthetic appeal to ceremonies and receptions. It can be difficult for couples to achieve that balance of cost and look on their own, so the following are a few helpful hints for couples when choosing their wedding day floral arrangements.

• Work with a florist you trust and like. All florists are not the same, so finding one you can trust and will enjoy working with can make all the difference. Many couples have little or no experience with floral arrangements prior to planning their weddings, so it can calm couples’ nerves to work with someone they trust in such situations. Florists with significant wedding experience will no doubt make a host of recommendations based on couples’ budgets and preferences, so couples might be more inclined to listen to that advice if they are working with someone they trust. Ask relatives, friends or coworkers if they can recommend any florists whose wedding work they are familiar with.

• Repurpose floral arrangements. Another way to save on floral arrangements is to repurpose flowers throughout the day. Once bridesmaids no longer need their bouquets, use them to decorate gift tables or cocktail areas. Floral arrangements on display during the ceremony can be removed once you have both said “I do” and moved into the reception

area where they can be enjoyed through the night. Go over any repurposing you plan to do with your reception hall manager prior to your wedding day so he knows where and when to move the arrangements.

Flowers for Every Occasion!

• Go big. Some flowers simply bloom larger than others, and choosing such flowers may help you save money since you won’t need to buy as many flowers as you would if you were to go with smaller blooms. Once you find a florist to work with, discuss your options with regard to doing more with less. Many florists embrace the challenge to be creative

within a budget, so you might just be surprised and impressed by what they come up with.

• Choose in-season or native flowers. Couples working with tight budgets may want to choose in-season flowers or those native to the area where they will be tying the knot. In-season and native flowers won’t need to be ordered or shipped in from afar, which can be costly. In-season and native flowers tend to be more abundant as well, and the greater their availability the less couples are likely to pay for them.

Floral arrangements can set the mood for a wedding ceremony and reception, and even couples with little or no experience choosing arrangements can end up with stunning displays. BR161789

hen Kaki Tuggle and Heath Whiddon decided to tie the knot, it became an exciting time to share with family and friends. Kaki and Heath both grew up in Perry and first met during their junior year of high school while attending the Perry Youth Leadership program. They began dating shortly after high school graduation. Their long distance romance lasted throughout their college years, and the two became engaged just before Kaki graduated from college. The engagement was a busy six months with lots of decisions to be made, but since the Perry area has quickly become a wedding destination for many, the bride and groom were able to use many local wedding experts for the big day. One of the first decisions the couple made was to have a traditional southern wedding, and since both Kaki and Heath are from Perry and from large extended families, the size of the wedding was already decided. Big! Choosing a place for the ceremony was another easy decision since Perry United Methodist Church has been home for the bride and her family for nearly a century. The groom’s aunt and uncle, Lynn and David Whiddon, are owners of Southern Bridle Farms and The Retreat in Henderson, so the place for the reception would be one of the two. Scheduling a date for the location was a little bit more

” Day of a juggling act. But as it turned out, The Retreat was available and offered a beautiful setting among large oak trees and manicured grounds. Other decisions that had to be made included scheduling a photographer, caterer and florist. The Retreat offers full-service planning, so Mike Whiddon created a menu and floral arrangements once he met with the bride and groom to determine their wishes. Jan McCord baked a simple but elegant wedding cake, and Christi Graham created the groom’s cake complete with the UGA arch on top. before when the first of three portraits was taken of the bride-to-be. Kaki said she wasn’t able to use Bridals by Gilbert for her dress because they didn’t exist, therefore she covered the state in search of the perfect dress. When we asked Kaki if she had any recommendations for future brides, she mentioned several bits of advice. She and Heath made the decision to break with tradition and see each other before the wedding. Kaki said, “There’s still the ‘wow’ factor when the church doors open.” She also said to brace yourself for lots of free advice. “Do what makes you and the groom happy. It’s your special day.” And lastly, the bride told us to, “Surround yourself with people you love and let them take care of the last minute details so you can enjoy the day.”

Wedding Registry For engaged couples, it can seem as if there are a million things to accomplish before the big day arrives. One essential piece of the wedding puzzle involves creating a registry that makes it easy for guests to celebrate your union with gifts that reflect your personality as a couple.

101

Before Building Your Registry It’s no wonder why guests love the ease and simplicity of a gift registry. But many couples may not know where to begin when setting out to create this useful list. Here are some helpful pointers from Macy’s to help you get started on creating a perfect wedding registry: • Meet with a Consultant: These trained professionals are on site to assist and discuss everything you want and need. It’s a good place to start if you have questions on what items to include and what brands are available. • Look for Special Programs: Some stores offer special features, such as Macy’s, whose Dream Fund allows guests to contribute any amount to the ultimate gift card, so the bride and groom can later choose exactly what they want. • Start Early: Most couples like to register 4-6 months before their wedding date, which allows more time for choosing items, planning for showers and meeting other deadlines. • Register Together: Whether it’s in-store, online or both – make a day of it and have fun selecting all the things that will be part of your new life together. • Choose Different Price Points: Guests will appreciate a varied list that has many gift options to fit their personal budget. • Create a Registry That Reflects You: If you’re a laid-back, easygoing couple, consider registering for a more casual dinnerware pattern that you can use every day, then mix in some fancy pieces to use for those special occasions. If you enjoy entertaining friends and family, be sure to choose a range of serveware and barware.

Making the Right Choices With all the things needed to properly stock your home, selecting the right ones can seem overwhelming. Here are some tips to keep in mind while adding to your registry: • Select Your Settings: A five-piece setting is meant to serve one person and includes a dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, tea cup and saucer. If you want to serve eight guests, you will need to register for eight fivepiece settings. • Factor in Some Extras: When registering for drinkware, be sure to register for a few extras in each glass size in case some break down the road. • Protect Your Cutlery: Be sure to choose a sturdy cutting board to protect your knife blades from chips and cracks.

Family Features

You can keep your cutlery in top condition by registering for a honing steel and knife sharpener. • Stock Up on Kitchen Must-Haves: When it comes to cookware, make sure to stock up on the essentials. This should include a fry pan, sauté pan, grill pan, sauteuse (round, deep-sided design for sautéing on the stovetop or baking in the oven) and a chef ’s pan. • Opt for the Basics: White dinnerware allows you to transform the look of your table year-round by changing the décor and accessories around it. The classic look will be a design that you can appreciate for years to come. Visit www.macys.com/registry for a full registry checklist, helpful tips and more information on Macy’s Dream Fund.

Real Estate South & Getting To Know Sandee Davis Khoury... My background is sales and marketing. I enjoyed 16 years in Atlanta working with several Fortune 500 companies that have corporate headquarters in Georgia from salesperson to Vice President Sales and Marketing helping to develop print advertising, point of purchase, product catalogs, and more. Some great companies that I was fortunate to work with include Georgia Power Company, Southern Company, Coca-Cola, UPS, Mizuno, Bridgestone Sports, AMREP and many more. Next, I decided to try something new and worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 4.5 years. This afforded me the opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people from customers on my route to co-workers at the post office. The experience I received from such an unlikely combination of jobs has made helping others buy and sell real property a lot more rewarding. The marketing experience has set me apart from many of my competitors in developing the web

site and putting together fliers and ads for the sellers we represent. The post office experience showed me how trying it can be to handle the purchase of a home, moving, and so much more. I am most thankful for my three beautiful children and my two granddaughters. Thank you Lord!

My Mission Statement

To understand how trying it can be to view homes and work at the same time. To appreciate the unique challenge presented to Sellers and Buyers who are located in a different, city, county, state, or country and accommodate them. To know as much as I possibly can about area schools, properties, services, and continue to learn more each day. My goal as a listing agent is to help you sell your home for the highest price, in the shortest period of time, with the least amount of inconvenience to you. I am available to answer any questions you might have. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me. –Sandee Khoury

Lucy’s Sewing B’s Alteration & Dry Clean

Historically, June has been the most popular month for getting married. But some numbers now indicate that July and even October have begun to edge out June as the most popular months to tie the knot. The June wedding tradition may be traced back to the ancient Romans. Romans honored Juno, the goddess of marriage and childbirth, and the month of June was named after her, so it is fitting that

weddings take place in her namesake month. As centuries passed, June remained a popular month to get married. June was a prime time for people to come out after a long winter and take communal baths in the fifteenth century. In addition, June weddings meant children conceived after betrothal would be born close to or during the following spring. This helped assure youngsters’ survival during the rough and often lean months of winter. Spring births would not conflict with workers’ demanding schedules during the autumn harvest, either. Even when weddings began shifting from pragmatic business transactions to romantic affairs, June remained popular. BR161787

Videography Services

Everyone wants to have mementos of their wedding day, and there is no better way than allowing ComSouth Videography Services to capture those memories on video. A couple can hear their vows all over again and listen to the music that marked the occasion. They can hear the laughter, joy, and perhaps even a few quivers in the voices of loved ones as they experienced that special day. They can see the dancing, the toasts, and the groom’s smile as it grew bigger and bigger as the bride walked down the aisle. A couple may even be able to absorb moments

that they did not have time to catch the day of the wedding with everything else happening. After all, it can be hard to appreciate the looks and well-wishes of guests when there is an amazing new spouse to look at. Everyone wants to capture those extra-sentimental moments that can happen unexpectedly at a wedding. With video, not a moment will be missed. Video can capture every second of the bride’s and groom’s experiences. Video is amazing for preserving and sharing these special moments.

Why choose ComSouth Videography Services? ComSouth Videography Services employs professional videographers who routinely film a variety of community events. These videographers have extensive experience filming for television and for weddings. Their experience in filming and editing leads to a polished final product. Also, ComSouth Videography Services won’t break the bank. ComSouth Videography Services offers several standard wedding packages and can customize a package to meet the requirements of the bride and groom for their wedding day. Some brides want everything recorded from getting their hair and makeup done with their bridesmaids to driving off for the honeymoon. Other brides don’t want to be seen before everything else has come together for their walk down the aisle. No matter

how a couple pictures their wedding, ComSouth Videography Services will work to capture that dream. In addition to having affordable rates, ComSouth Videography Services is able to travel to wherever a couple’s dream destination may be. Also, the videographers can do a multi-camera set-up to capture multiple angles and views of the big day. This can be particularly beneficial for getting a close-up of the bride while also getting a close-up of the groom or other family or friends. A multi-camera set-up is also beneficial for capturing moments when multiple things are happening at the same time, such as when the bride and groom are getting ready separately. ComSouth Videography Services can do as much or as little as the couple wants. Every package comes with at least one special keepsake DVD with extra DVD copies available for family and friends. ComSouth Videography Services records only high-definition video that will give clarity and detail to any video-viewing experience. Relive that special day time and time again!
