This is the perfect itinerary for those who have limited time, but want to experience the magic of the famous Canadian Rockies. Travelling onboard VIA Rail’s Canadian service into the Rockies.
Ottawa is a unique mix of old and new, history and technology, excitement and relaxation. Montréal has some of North America’s oldest and most spectacular architecture and Québec is the heart of French Canada.
Venture into Canada’s garden and wine country and discover a world-class show garden and top-rated wineries. Indulge at the ‘Home of the World’s Greatest Ice Cream’ before heading into the spectacular Canadian Rockies.
Day 1: Vancouver – Jasper (rail) Check in at the Pacific Central Station and board VIA Rail’s ‘Canadian’ for the famous overnight train journey to the majestic Canadian Rockies. By day, sit back in comfortable armchairs. At night attendants will transform your quarters into cosy bunks or a bedroom.
Day 1: Toronto – Ottawa (rail) Follow the shores of Lake Ontario to Ottawa, through landscape dotted with small villages, maple forests and rich pasture land.
Day 1: Vancouver – Kamloops (coach) Travel through the lush Fraser Delta region over the Coquihalla Pass for a great day of sightseeing.
Day 2: Ottawa (rail) A free day to explore Ottawa’s many historic sights.
Day 2: Kamloops – Banff (coach) Sample fresh fruit and locally produced cheese, before making your way into the heart of the Rockies.
Day 3: Ottawa – Montréal (rail) Travel into rural Ontario, with maple forests and pastures.
Day 2: Canadian Rockies (rail) By the time you wake this morning the train will have just departed Kamloops to begin a day of travelling towards the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy breakfast while surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow the banks of the North Thompson River through the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Arrive in Jasper late afternoon and transfer to your hotel.
Day 4: Montréal Enjoy a three hour tour of the city. Day 5: Montréal – Québec (rail) Following the St. Lawrence River, travel through the rugged Monteregian Hills formed over 120 million years ago.
Day 3: Jasper – Banff (coach) Visit the Columbia Icefield and enjoy an Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier.
Day 6: Québec Steeped in history, Québec is almost 400 years old and most of the original architecture has been lovingly preserved.
Day 4: Banff – Calgary (coach) This morning is free to explore Banff before your scheduled coach to Calgary, departing at midday.
Day 7: Québec – Toronto (rail)

Day 3: Banff Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Banff and then explore at your leisure. Day 4: Banff – Jasper (coach) Travel the scenic Icefields Parkway and keep your eyes open for bears and moose. Day 5: Jasper This evening go on a wildlife tour. Day 6: Jasper – Vancouver (rail) Relax in Jasper before boarding your VIA Rail sleeper back to Vancouver. Day 7: Vancouver (rail) Sit back in comfort and watch memorable scenes sweep by.
