Sometimes we wish life could be a little easier. With tech-driven kitchens on the rise, Mark Jenkins, Kitchen Designer at Elliotts Living Spaces in Fareham, looks at 3 appliances that do just that.
OK so I may have stolen that line… But, like most of us, I do have a dream. Since childhood I’ve always wanted to own my own studios; where I can bring stories to life, work with creative people to tell theirs, and generally bring to fruit all the glory and wonder of the seeds that start in our imaginations.
SMART FRIDGES. Ever plan a meal while you’re at work, only to forget what you have in the fridge? There is a great Siemens model in their iQ500 range that allows you to check the contents of your fridge from your phone, via the Siemens Home Connect app. The two integral cameras mean you can plan your food shop from your desk.
This month I’m opening my own studios in Christchurch. I journeyed here through trials and challenges and I want to share some of what I’ve learned with you.
2-IN-1 HOBS. The new NikolaTesla Switch by Elica is an induction hob and extractor fan in one. With no need for a bulky cooker hood, the centre fan captures all cooking fumes and odours and is ultra-quiet, even at maximum power. This extractor hob is perfect for open-plan living.
Learn in times of struggle
Struggles have taught me far more than any of my successes. They have taught me about courage, resilience, hard work faith and taking risks (and when not to!) Four years ago I lead in a hospital bed and faced things I never dreamed I would in my thirties. I found myself on the resuscitation table and thinking about life more deeply that one of my age really does. This came at a time straight after my highest of highs, watching the first feature I directed premiere at Leicester Square.
SELF-CLEANING OVENS. Although not a new
product to the market, the NEFF Slide&Hide® ovens work well in tight spaces or near large traffic areas, like doorways. Along with a host of handy features, some models come with Pyrolytic self-cleaning. This feature turns cooking spatter and residue into ash. When the oven cools you can simply wipe it away with a cloth. After all, who wants to spend their day of rest cleaning the oven?
Whilst being scared for my family, I was not scared for myself in those moments I faced my own mortality. Rather I felt a sense of calm, that I really had given this life ‘a damn good go!’ It was this feeling that has allowed me to get up and grab life by the horns again and live by the motto ‘ You don’t only live once, you only die once, you live EVERY day’. So I am making them count.
