WORLD AIDS DAY PICS Pictures of you fundraising.

Well Boys & Girls... That’s another year pretty much over. I really can’t believe it’s almost 2012! As you would expect at this time of year your favourite Village venues are pulling out all the stops to make the festive season very merry indeed. With Christmas Eve falling on a Saturday this year I am sure the party faithful won’t be able to resist the lure of The Village to wake up on Christmas morning with a festive hangover. It goes without saying New Years Eve will be the biggest night of the festive season, and also being on a Saturday it’s just gonna be one hell of a night to remember for sure! With all the extra Bank Holidays I am sure you will all manage to arrange at least one night out in The Village, and for those of you who haven’t been for a while or who normally stick to their favourite venues why not break from tradition and check out somewhere new. As ever The Village has had more than its fair share of negative criticism over the past year, but if you actually take a moment to think about it the last year has seen the largest investment into The Village than I personally can ever remember. Hot on the heels of Eagle we’ve seen The Molly House, Richmond Tea Rooms, The Lodge, Icon Bar and Polari all open this year. In addition to this Churchills, Napoleons and AXM have all had extensive or complete refurbishments, and the builders are currently on site in Jacqlins on Bloom Street for another new exciting venue.

Any round up of changes wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the iconic London brand G-A-Y which took over Spirit this year. Once again the subject of criticism due to its £1.50 drinks. It may not be everyone’s idea of the direction The Village should be taking, but in this current economic climate the team at G-A-Y seem to have the approval of a large number of The Village faithful and you only need to see the queues outside on a Saturday if you need anymore convincing, and on a day that the £1.50 drinks promotion doesn’t run too. I guess you’ll need to draw your own conclusions on that one. Personally I find it quite amusing that people get so uptight when someone new comes along and rocks the boat with a new venue or a new drinks promotion. We have seen it many times before and I am sure we will see it again, but that’s the beauty of The Village surely? It’s diverse enough and established enough for everyone to coexist side by side. Undoubtedly the economic forecast for next year is looking gloomy and everyone needs to do what they consider right for their venue and their customers in order to survive and prosper! So that’s my closing thought for 2011, I personally feel The Village has listened to its critics and has fought back aggressively and is now very much on the way back to its previously envied reputation as THE party destination for the best night out in Manchester. On behalf of everyone at Hot Village have a fantastic Christmas and a fabulous New Year. Lots of love.

Same, Old, Brand New...

VIA & Polari Lately, there have been a few exciting changes taking place down at VIA, so we decided to go take a look to see what’s been going on.

Well, the Old Lady of Canal St has had a facelift without losing any of the quirky old charm that we’ve all come to enjoy about VIA. They’ve also installed new toilets (which were long overdue) and a new cocktail bar complete with a new Drag Kings of Manchester event cocktail list. All we can say is VIA is and Deano is still resident DJ definitely looking wonderful. every Friday and Saturday night. The DJ stand is now more open so you can see Lee Star (VIA’s resident drag DJ) in full glory and not as though she was peeking out of a glory hole! Valentino King is still there on the last Sunday of the month with the

VIA’s very own Smilie Steve is still the cheesy karaoke king every Mon day and Wednesday night too, so you can be rest assured that cosmetically, yes VIA does look refreshed, but the regular team of entertainers you’ve come to enjoy so much are still there for you!

Polari serves a large range of Wines and Champagnes, Premium Spirits, Beers of the World from the likes of Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Czech Republic, Mexico, and Canada, as well as fabulous Classic and Champagne Cocktails, sharing hot and cold mezzes, divine platters and scrumptious dainty afternoon champagne teas. With fantastic staff and service, Polari is a much needed addition to The Village. A haven from 4pm til late! VIA looks a lot more open now and with a new menu and both high level dining and booth seating, lunch times are busier than ever. VIA still has some availability for Christmas but hurry! So to book your table today, please email them at: Then comes the new place to be seen at any time of the week... Polari.

Members can also enjoy a special Christmas this year as Polari is opening its doors on Christmas Day for both food and drink service. If you would like to eat out this Christmas, book now as spaces are limited. Polari is welcoming new addition to Canal Street and the revamp of VIA has been tastefully done. Make sure you pop by VIA & Polari soon.

A new addition to Manchesters Gay Village, Polari is a members bar providing an oasis amongst the havoc and mayhem of Canal Street. This is a venue to relax and chill out in a soft luxurious setting. Lady GaGa has been replaced by Sinatra and the likes, and live pianists and jazz singers perform five nights a week. EXCLUSIVE REVIEW: VIA & POLARI 15

Gay, Glory & Goals... it’s

Village Manchester FC On Friday December 2nd Village Manchester FC celebrated their 15th birthday as players and supporters from past and present came together at Taurus Bar to reminisce about highlights from one of the largest gay sporting clubs in the world.

Founded in 1996, VMFC was originally set up with the purpose of providing a safe, fun environment in which gay men could play football against each other. The competitive side soon took a step up and the team entered the Manchester Accountants League, winning promotion from

Division One in 2004 before claiming the Premier Division title in 2007. Now with a second team competing in the Manchester Central League, Village Manchester have enjoyed their most successful year to date, finishing runners-up the Accountants league, IGLFA European Cup and Eurogames 1st Division, and winning the Eurogames 2nd Division and annual London Titans Tournament. In 2012 Village will travel to Budapest as they take on the best gay teams in Europe at the Eurogames competition.

Pete Ransom, VMFC’s Comms Officer said “It’s been an amazing journey that the club has been on over the past 15 years. Over that time we’ve seen attitudes towards homosexuality change substantially and I’d like to think we’ve done our small part by showing that gay men can play football against straight opposition and win. “The evening was a fantastic celebration of what we’ve achieved and it was terrific to look back on videos and photos from years gone by to see just how far we’ve come.

“We’re a big family at VMFC, with players aged 20 all the way up to 50. Although we take the sport seriously, the social side is a huge part of the club and I’ve personally made some of my best friends in the three years I’ve been here. Whether it’s watching a game at the pub, a meal out or dancing the small hours away at Cruz 101, we’re always out and about together! “We welcome anyone to come down to our Thursday night training sessions at Albert Park in Lower Broughton and see how they like it. The sessions last from 8pm to 10pm and include some fitness exercises, ball drills and a game. For more info visit: or add Village Manchester FC on Facebook”.

When did you first realise?

I always knew I was gay, tried to convince myself I wasn’t but a few sexual experiences with some girls sealed the deal!!! The female “form” is not for me!!!

Who did you first come out to?

One of my best mates Sarah, she cried, I cried, it was all very emotional! We hugged it out and all was fine with the world.

How did you tell your parents?

Ready and waiting, it’s Manto’s...

BARMAN OF THE MONTH NAME: John Taylor Age: 25 years old Starsign: Libra Venue: Manto

Quick Fire Round

I told my dad one night I was really pissed. I came home from a night out and he was still up watching football and I just came out with it. He gave me a big hug and told me he loved me no matter what. My mum took a little longer to come to terms with it but they are both amazing about it now.

Lost your innocence at?

I was 15 when I lost it with a girl, 18 when I finally experienced a bit of bum fun.

With? Was it good?

My boyfriend at the time, was a bit nerve-racking to start but we soon bashed it out... so to speak!!!

Have you ever having sex?

My little sis just walked into my bedroom one night without knocking and she got an eyeful!!! She made sure to knock every time after that!

Best sex you’ve had?

Where there was this one time at band camp... there have been quite a few memorable times, back of a taxi, in the cinema ironically when everyone else was watching the 40 Year Old Virgin.

TOP/BOTTOM: Versatile SINGLE/TAKEN: Single SPIT/SWALLOW: Depends... Worst sex you’ve had? CUDDLE/FUCK: Fuck & Cuddle Don’t judge me... but I met this guy off Grindr for a random hook up. I’ll set BOXERS/BRIEFS: Briefs

the scene, he ran to mine so got there sweaty (what a treat), he didn’t really talk to me, he clearly used someone else’s cock pics and was done in 15 minutes! At that point I felt it best he let himself out of my house. I then scrubbed myself clean with a brillo pad!

Ideal first date?

Start off at a nice restaurant for some food, wine and a chance to chat then into town for lots of alcohol and dancing.

Worst date?

Haven’t had many bad dates but there was a particularly horrific third date not too long ago where the guy decided to have an issue with everything, food, wine, me paying for the evening. Needless to say there was no fourth date and his loss too!

Ideal night out?

Any night out with the Manto crew! Mine and Dan Smiths famous last words, “Let’s go for one little drink after work” usually means AXM or Morning Glory!! Love it!!!

An embarrassing drunken story?

God there are probably loads, most of my nights out end up with an embarrassing drunken story. The one that stands out for me most recently was when I was dancing my ass off in View and I ripped my new pair of chinos right down the arse!!! Had to get my mate Yaz to walk all the way behind me up the stairs and past everyone on Canal Street to the taxi stand so no-one could see my cheeks! Ha ha.

What underwear do you have on? When did you last change them?

I’m wearing my D&G briefs they’re white at the front and blue at the back (my fave pair). I always make sure I have a fresh pair on each day.

When did you last have sex and who was it with?

Myself this morning. Let’s just say I’m having a dry spell at the minute. Any takers? Or givers? Not fussed! Ha ha.

Last CD you bought?

Last CD I downloaded was Rihanna Talk that Talk. Love it!

When did you last cry?

Last Saturday, I was hungover and Rehab by Rihanna started playing and I burst into tears. I was very emotional, think I needed a cuddle that day.

Ideal fantasy celebrity shag?

There are too many! Chris Evans (Captain America), Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Philippe all at the same time, sort of greedy like that!

What would you change if you were Prime Minister?

I’d make every weekend a 3 day weekend meaning more time to party!.

Tell us a secret nobody knows about you? I’m not really Irish, I just do the accent really well.

Three words to describe you?

Not sure... but I have been described at work as “small”, “Irish” and “camp”. Think they are probably spot on to be fair!

Remember John, our readers and your friends (especially from Manto Bar) will know if your lying J Thanks for taking the time to speak to us and we wish you all the very best for Christmas and New Year!

Seasons Greetings Gays. It’s that time for peace on earth and goodwill to all men, yes that’s to all men, so sorry lezzas but you still don’t count I’m afraid. So this is the time that we all stuff ourselves stupid, drink like a bastard and make a complete tit of ourselves at the works do. Sounds like a normal weekend to me, only decorated up with tinsel round me neck, a party popper in one pocket (as opposed to a bottle of poppers usually) and some mistletoe in the other in case I stumble across a fit man who isn’t yet quite drunk enough to agree to my offer of a slobbering snog. Of course at this time of year we must all also remember all the hugely important and critical things that are going on in the world..... The Arab Spring uprising and deaths, the dreadful state of the world economy, the fact that we have basically now walked away from the European Union (or been booted out depending on what newspaper you read), and the far reaching agreements reached in the climate change summit.... Oh hang on I’ve just remembered that I’m writing this for the gays in the village, so what I meant to say was the hugely important and critical things that are going on in the world..... Dougie from McFly winning ‘I’m A Has Been Get Me Out Of Here’, Harry from McFly or some 2bit failed Neighbours cast off about to win ‘Strictly’, and Little Mix proving that fat ugly women can be successful at more than just bulimia and collecting the entire

set of coke glasses from McDonalds. Of course this festive period follows on directly after World Hypocrisy Day, where the righteous and the good all get to preach to us and pity us simply because they’re wearing a red ribbon. Where the charities can rattle their buckets and stick on a couple of half arsed fundraising events to guilt us all into giving them money. Though to be fair the money raised is very important, it pays for very much needed company cars, secretaries salaries, stationary and a new plant for the offices. It was nice though to see quite a few people at The Vigil, though from the look of some of them it was obvious they were only there because they had popped into Sackville Gardens for another bit of barebacking behind the bushes. I jest of course, I’m just bitter because they refused my offer of letting me on stage to do a very moving reading of that poem ‘Born This Way’ by HRH GaGa. Seriously though Gays, I sincerely do hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. And do remember at this time that there are indeed people out there far worse off than yourselves, though to be honest not many!
