Welcome to the Election Edition of Hotspots, probably the most important issue of the year (and our lives for that matter). I don't know about you but, between Covid-19 and what feels like four years of political campaigning, I'm spent. I remember the day I watched Donald and Melania Trump come down that escalator at Trump Tower and, I know many people are hoping that there is a reverse button on that very same escalator. The bottom line is that it is up to us to decide if the president should get four more years in the White House or, get sent back to Trump Tower to sort out his tax returns. In this edition of Hotspots, you will find it filled with helpful information about election issues, (because you can't get enough) candidates' positions and ballot recommendations for all who want to revel in the drama of voting on election day. By now you have heard that Pope
Francis said that: “Homosexua people have the right to be in civil union� Wow, talk about a 'come to Jesus' moment and I mean no disrespect. And yet, i completely inverse reality, wit the installation of Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court two-thirds of the justices on th highest court in the land will b opponents of marriage equali As such, I hope you enjoy the George Freeman article which timely to say the least. Love is the universal language, and its always interesting to see how couples met, how long they have been together and what makes their love so special. Therefore we asked some of the couples we know to answer a few questions: What makes your love so special? All love is special, the most powerful energy in existence, ours is no different… we felt it when we irst met and we are still both greatly in love with each other some 17 years later. Michael Connell & James Walker How did you meet? We meet at local gay bar, by the pool table.

What makes your love so special? After all of these years, we encourage and celebrate each other's individuality, but we still thoroughly enjoy every minute of time that we spend together. Max & Lauren Zaslavsky How did you meet? I was dating her friend, and she broke up with me on super bowl Sunday. I had friended Lauren months prior because my ex was going to set her up with a friend of mine.
Months passed, and I posted on FB, does anyone want to go see Justin Timberlake with me, and Lauren wrote that she would. We met at the hard rock a week before the show. Talked for hours at the Irish pub that use to to be there. She didn't know if I was interested, I didn't know if she was interested. By the time we got to Justin Timberlake, a week later, I think we had a good idea. Then I tore my Achilles, she moved in to “take care of me,� and never left.

How long have you been together? Well, our irst of icial date was New Year's Eve of 2013 and we have basically been together ever since. So, 8 years now.

Florida. Hunters presented the return of Pam Ann to the stage. If you have ever seen Pam perform you know how hysterical she is, but no worries if you missed this performance as she will be at Hunters every Thursday at 7:30pm through February 18.
Afterwards we headed over too Johnsons who was featuring a benefit for Roosters West Palm Beach. If you haven't heard, Rooster burned down many months ago and will be rebuilt. This benefit which raised thousands of dollars was to
help re-build. Congrats to Matt, Chris, and the entire staff of Johnsons on a very successful event!

n Episode 4 of Season 13, the groups finally got to meet, and the “b” group found out that Eliott with two T's was still in the competition. Now, they were all in the workroom together, and they were told that this week someone would be eliminated. The mini challenge starring in cheesy holiday movies for the new RuPaul Mark channel. They will be disrupting the marketplace with films that celebrate all the other holidays than that of Christmas. Ru randomly assigns teams to mix up the groups. The teams are: Denali, Elliot with 2 Ts., Kahmora, and Olivia – they will be overacting in the Valentine's Day tearjerker called “Misery Loves Company.” Rosé, Lala Ri, Symone, and Utica – they will be overacting in a flag day romantic adventure called “God Loves Flags.” Gottmik, Joey, Kandy Tamisha, and Tina – they will be in a RomCom that celebrates Aprils Fools Day, which is called “April Fools Rush In.”
On the main stage joining Ru, Michelle, and Ross was special guest Loni Love with the runway category set as “Trains for Days.” The top three were Rose, Symone, and Kandi with Symone taking home the cash prize of $5,000. The bottom 2 were Denali and Kahmora. In my opinion, this was the clearest Lip Sync ever in the history of Drag Race with Denali staying and Kahmora sashaying away. It was so clear even Ru said that she feels bad for any of the girls that have to lip sync against Denali in the future. Denali was 100% Pure Love (pun intended). It was a pleasure to sit down with Kahmora for this exclusive Hotspots Interview.
At what age did drag become an interest for you and how did you pick your name? Drag became an interest when I was a freshman in college, like 18. I remember
seeing Tajma Hall perform and the seed was planted. Tajma eventually became my drag mother. My first name came from Kimora Lee Simmons who was very popular at that time. I changed the spelling because I wanted to be unique. My last name came from my drag mom. How excited were you when you got the call that you were cast and what was the first thing you did? Right before I got the call, I took an edible and I got the call when it hit. I couldn't handle it, and I was feeling excited, surprised, and shocked. All I could do was jump up and down. However, I was so paranoid I asked the person for his name and I googled him to make sure it wasn't a prank call.
How hard was it to keep the secret that you were on Drag Race? We are not allowed to tell anybody; therefore, it was very hard to keep the secret. I couldn't wait to share it with everyone a few months later.
Tell us about your RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 experience? Going in you feel like you are at your best and you know your drag persona. But honestly, on the show, I learned so much about myself and learned to believe in myself. There is a reason RuPaul chose me!
Is there something you wish you had done
differently? I wish I learned how to paint a lot faster, and I wish I had a lot more fun. My inner saboteur jumped out quick. I am now building my self-confidence. Do you think there was more pressure on you since Jaida (your sister) won last season? Yes and no. I knew that being in the house of “Hall” there would be a lot of eyes on me from the judges and other contestants. I was also constantly feeling that I needed to be perfect. But on the other hand, I had to remind myself that I was there for me and I had to build my own legacy. It was my moment to shine.
Without revealing anything you may know, who do you want to win and why? Honestly, I would love any of my Pork Chop girls to make it to the end as we went through this traumatic experience together. But if I had to choose one, it would be my Chicago sister Denali. I am so proud of her.
What's your marital status? I am in a relationship and incredibly happy.
Has your boyfriend become better with your drag? Seeing me in the competition and how passionate I am with drag, made him a lot more accepting. Things are now great!
What's ahead for Kahmora? As the “look queen,” please be on the watch for more fashion and make up collaborations. And Detroit native Anthony Winn has done just that with the irst-ever Black Excellence Stage graciously provided by our 2019 Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade & Street Festival. But his commitment doesn't just stop there, the powerhouse South Florida club promoter has also led the charge for the irst Black LGBTQI+ Rally in Wilton Manors that happened in June of 2020 during the height of race relations in that year. Williams' spot is where our community can congregate and enjoy the cultural aspects of our existence. Sometimes a nice game of spades is on the table, perhaps even a tournament. How did you guys meet and was it love at first site? Roberto - We met on Instagram when I was living in Orlando and I came to Miami to meet him. Since the first night eating sushi and the next morning at the beach I decided to move here with him and leave everything that I had there. Franco - We started talking on Instagram, I was living in Miami and Roberto in Orlando. After talking for a week Roberto came to visit me in Miami and yes it was love at first sight. After this first meeting, he only went back to Orlando once to pack his stuff and move in with me.
What do you like/love best about your Boyfriend? Roberto - I love his determination and courage to do things and I love his eyes. Franco - The thing I like the most about Roberto is that he doesn't even know how beautiful he is. He has a good heart, is not cocky or selfish. I wish he could see himself through my eyes to realize how beautiful he is and how good his soul is. What do you do for a living? Roberto - I
work most of the time as a handyman but I also do renovation and work at construction. Franco - I work in fitness. I am the creator of two fitness programs; one called Bounce DanceFit and the other BADASS. I also sometimes work as a dancer as I am a professional dancer and I cant stay away from it.
What do you do for fun? Roberto - We love go to the beach, watch movies, and eat sushi. Franco - For fun I go to the gym, I go running by the beach, like to go to the cinema, eat out, theatre and of course spoil my boy. What does the future hold for you? Roberto - I hope the future hold success and happiness together and strength to overcome and learn from the circumstances. Franco - My dream is to eventually launch my fitness programs worldwide and inspire people to stay fit and keep exercising. I hope I will be sharing this success with the love of my life. The Lady and The Dale and the history of a trans woman entrepreneur

Now a biopic about McDaniel, Behind The Smile, is in the works, and Raven Goodwin (The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel) has signed on to play the legendary actress. We'll have to wait and see the film to know if McDaniel's sexuality is addressed in the film – Golden Age Hollywood was notorious for keeping those closet doors locked tightly – but now that Queen Latifah has played her for Ryan Murphy on Netflix in Hollywood (a nod in that direction if ever there was one), we can hope.

Not long ago competing Truman Capote biopics sparked renewed interest in one of the 20th centuries most
acclaimed gay literary figures, and one of them, Capote, won the late Philip Seymour Hoffman an Academy Award. Now Greenwich Entertainment will revive the legend again and distribute the acclaimed upcoming documentary The Capote Tapes to theaters and streaming in 2021. Honing in on Capote's unfinished novel, Answered Prayers, the book that proved to be too big for the author to wrangle, the film will detail the last stage of Capote's career in newly unearthed audio and archived interviews with those who knew him. Included are taped interviews from author George Plimpton for his 1997 Capote biography, Truman Capote: In Which Various Friends, Enemies, Acquaintances and Detractors Recall His Turbulent Career, as well as discussions with TV host Dick Cavett, Vogue
If you were around for the 1970s, you definitely remember the oil crisis, but do you remember The Dale? It was a breakthrough in fuelefficient cars. It had three wheels. And its creator, Dale Clifft, partnered with a trans woman entrepreneur named Elizabeth Carmichael to sell it to the public. Carmichael promoted the car with gusto, and then everything changed when she disappeared with investor money and eventually faced fraud charges. Now a four-part documentary series, The Lady and The Dale, is coming to HBO this month. Co-directed by Nick Cammilleri and trans artist Zackary Drucker, the series mixes archival footage, interviews with family members and gender scholars, and animation to tell the story of the car, its designer, and the trans woman who capitalized on innovation and turned her own world upside down. Dear Andreus, The pandemic has taken quite a toll on my partner. We have been together for 4 years but live separately. He lost his job due to the pandemic and depleted his savings. Luckily, he is receiving unemployment. The issue is that he is fiercely independent and very reluctant to accept help of any kind, it just really boils down to his pride. Recently, he told me that he must move because he can no longer afford his place. I own my place and have offered on several occasions for him to move in with me, but he refuses saying that he does not like to burden people or take handouts. How can I help him without crushing his ego? Sincerely,

Dear Bob, Often when you take someone who is use to taking care of themselves and their own affairs without any assistance it is difficult for them to accept help from anyone, no matter who it is. If he is receiving unemployment, then he has some income, and that may be an opportunity for you to pitch the idea of him moving in with you differently. It might give him a sense of independence, and not bruise his ego if he is obligated to pay some of the bills or help with household expenses. Changing the delivery from “staying with you” to “renting” with you is very different. Delivery is everything! Best of luck.
