I read a couple of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels and enjoyed them, so I decided to go back to his first one and read them in order. "Killing Floor" was a fun read. Child writes in shorter sentences than I do, but that's his style and it works for him. The character of Jack Reacher, an ex-military drifter, is an interesting hero. I like him. You could nit-pick the novel and say, "that would never happen" or "too coincidental" and so forth, but why? I don't read action novels like this to educate myself on reality. The same way I don't watch action movies for realism. They are fun escapism. I like that you have a good tough-guy hero in an action tale. The story grabs you from the beginning and is interesting all the way through. One thing I really like about the Jack Reacher character is that yes, he's tough, and has no problem going physical or using weapons, but he is also smart and observant. He thinks, and doesn't just use his fists and guns. Child adds elements of suspense, romance, and action, and he blends them well. The story is fairly basic with good guys and bad guys. But Child adds twists and turns and keeps it lively. It is a good first book to the series, and I'm glad I went back and started from the beginning. Now I'll proceed to book two. If you want some good escapism action, Lee Child's Jack Reacher series fits the bill. If you want to start at the beginning, pick up a copy of "Killing Floor," and read it for fun.
