DEAR GUESTS AND FRIENDS When we think of how well 2020 began...... so many carefully-planned events, so many carefree wedding receptions at the CU Restaurant, convivial evenings of folk music at the Bären and events featuring specialities from various countries at the Park Hotel Restaurant. Unfortunately none of this was to be. In March the corona pandemic and the rapid rise in positive cases presented the world with a tremendous challenge, resulting in the lockdown. Our business was more or less wound down completely and we entered a Sleeping-Beauty-like sleep. After the first horror and shock we regained our strength, our slogan being; ‚We‘re coming back stronger than ever!‘ We are currently hoping that the events for autumn and winter 2020/2021 can go ahead as planned and, of course, that we will be able to welcome you at one of them at least. It goes without saying that we adhere to the corona regulations to the letter and have more than enough space for social distancing in our locations. I hope you will enjoy reading our event guide and look forward to welcoming you soon. Take care and stay safe!

in order to protect the delicate stigmas inside. Saffron is extremely subtle and fragrant. Its slightly sweet, luxurious taste is enigmatic; it’s tricky to describe, but instantly recognizable when used in a dish. It may sound like a cliché, but it’s true: you’ll know saffron when you taste it. Together with Sari Safran, an organic saffron producer, we have created a 4-course dinner with guest chef Susanna Ghukasyan, to celebrate the unforgettable flavors of the world’s most mysterious spice. Come be a part of The Saffron Tales.

Saffron is one of the most precious spices in the world. Its threadlike red stigmas – are quite literally the stuff of legend. But what is saffron, exactly? No matter how many tales have been told about this particular spice, most of us still don’t know what to do with it in the kitchen, nor can we tell whether it’s worth the price we paid for it. The spice originates in a flower called Crocus sativus – commonly known as the “saffron crocus.” Saffron must be harvested entirely by hand (!) in the mid-morning when its flowers are still closed,

Is there an evening that combines haggis, whisky, poetry, fun and laughter? Of course there is. It’s our Burns Supper. Burns Night celebrations are held all over the world, whether on the exact evening itself or a date as close as possible. Burns Supper is a traditional dinner celebrating the life and work of Robert Burns. He was born in January 1759 and died in July 1796. Mark Chesterfield of The Whisky Experience will guide you through the evening and present an exclusive selection of Scotch Single Malts.

Our special guest on this evening will be Robin Laing, a Scotsman who will tell tales of old Scotland and sing. Robin is also a connoisseur of Scotch whisky and a judge on the executive committee of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Edinburgh. (www.robinlaing.com) Dinner will consist of four courses, one of which is a genuine Scottish haggis, accompanied by Mark’s whisky tasting, live music featuring the bagpipes and poetry. Mark Chesterfield will announce the programme of the evening and guide you through the ceremony. Put your kilt on and get ready for a traditional, authentic evening of Scots culture. This joyous evening is something to really look forward to!

On Thursday 12th November 2020 executive chef, Marcel Scheuner, will pair top notch champagne with one of his excellent dinners. The sparkling delights of Veuve Clicquot champagne and culinary delicacies are waiting for you. Clicquot was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and taken over by his daughterin-law Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin in 1805 after the death of her husband, François. (‘Veuve’ in English means ‘widow’). While Europe battled to recover after the Napoleonic Wars, she succeeded in exporting her champagne to countries all over the world helped in no small measure by her staff, many of whom had come from Germany. She introduced her champagne into all the courts of Europe,

thereby spreading the French concept of ‘savoir-vivre’. After only a short time her champagne was not only a very successful product but had achieved the status of a myth. Our four-course Champagne Dinner features unique creations using the highest quality products. However, Veuve Clicquot’s champagne is the star of the show and Marcel Scheuner’s culinary delights have been created with that in mind. Fabio di Santo from Moet-Hennessy will guide you through the evening and tell you more about each of the specialities. The crowning glory will be a Tarte Tatin, fittingly served with Veuve Clicquot demi-sec.

All over the world St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by the Irish, whether at home or abroad. In recent times more and more people who have no Irish roots have done so, too. In Dublin, the capital of Ireland, and most other Irish towns this colourful national day is marked by big parades and various other activities. We are also decking ourselves in green to celebrate this ‘green’ day in an after work get together at the CU Restaurant. Come along and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your friends at our festively decorated CU Restaurant. It will be a great evening with live music from the Irish musician Brandon Wade.

‘Koningsdag’ may well be the most entertaining festival in Holland. On 27th April the Dutch celebrate King Willem Alexander’s birthday with street parties, music and fairs. This is the fourth time the CU Restaurant will also be celebrating the greatest bank holiday in Holland with you, your friends and the Dutch community. Do you feel like being part of this orange party? We’ll be celebrating with plenty of music, beer and a typically Dutch snack buffet featuring ‘Croquettes, Bitterballen, Kaas soufflé, Kip spiesies met Satay saus, Apple taart, Stroopwafeln, Pofferties’ and much more. So why not come along dressed in orange -perhaps an orange t-shirt, a tutu or a wig and while you’re at it paint your face in red, white and blue. Do join us – a good time is guaranteed.

We are welcoming again the ‘Pulpieros’ from Galicia. Probably the most famous way of preparing octopus comes from Galicia in the north of Spain. At the ‘Fiesta del Pulpo’ the ‘Pulpieros do Carballiño’ cook the Galician dish of ‘Pulpo a feira’ for you in the timehonoured manner.

With ood Churros’ F Truck

The octopus is cooked in a copper pan and then cut into pieces with scissors when lukewarm. It is then served on wooden boards with coarse grain salt, paprika and olive oil. Our ‘Pulpieros’ and the CU team in collaboration with #raquelfromspain are looking forward to welcoming you. Please book as place is limited.

A cosy, homely atmosphere, a wide choice of traditional dishes and excellent relaxed service- that’s what the Bären Restaurant in the centre of Zug is known for. Locals, tourists and business people value the authentic combination of regional, traditional cuisine with an urban flair served in relaxed surroundings. The Bären is the perfect location for those special events, be it a club meeting, a football evening with friends or just a no-fuss few hours trying the specialities of the house. The beer’s been served! One, two, three, down the hatch! Unfortunately, the world famous ‘Oktoberfest’ has been cancelled this year for reasons that are all too familiar. However, you can still experience Bavarian hospitality and culinary treats to the sound of live music with us at the Bären Restaurant. The global situation is just one more reason to come along to our ‘blue and white’ weeks, which started in 2010 and have since become a centre of festive mirth.

The original Munich ‘Augustiner Oktoberfest’ beer, live music and delicious Bavarian specialities such as liver dumpling soup, ‘Weisswurst’, knuckle of veal, barbecued chicken, proper crunchy Munich pretzels and much more are all waiting for you. So put on your dirndl dresses ladies, and gents don those lederhosen that have been languishing in your wardrobe all year and sing along to traditional hits. It’s great that you’re here or, as they say in Munich, ‘Schee, dass do bist!’

The ‘Metzgete’ at the Bären Restaurant is a traditional nose-to-tail feast held in autumn. Unsurprisingly, word spread after only a very short time. We are now celebrating our third ‘Metzgete’ as a celebration of farmers and butchers. Among other tasty traditional specialities, we are serving delicate and yet hearty dishes such as juicy black pudding and liver sausage, cured knuckle of pork, braised pork cheeks and our legendary

Rösti fried in lard. These are dishes that’ll put hairs on your chest! For dessert our sweet ‘Fotzelschnitten’ (delicious French toast) with cinnamon and sugar and our apple fritters will delight your palate just as much as our main courses. Get into the mood with typical Swiss folk music performed traditionally in a cosy, relaxed setting. Marlis and Thomas are looking forward to seeing you at the Bären!
