WE HAD A SITE-VISIT TO MEKONG DELTA WHERE WE EXPERIENCED THE WETLANDS BY BOAT AND TALKED TO THE RANGERS, LOCAL PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND DEEPER THE TYPOLOGY, VEGETATION, AND EXISTING TOURISM ACTIVITIES,... BY UNDERSTANDING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF “TRÀM” (MELALEUCA CAJUPUTI), WHICH IS THE SPECIAL AND POPULAR SPECIES OF TREE IN THE FOREST, THE IDEA OF THE BOARDWALK IS PROPOSED TO HAVE TOURISTS GO THROUGH THE FOREST WITH VARIOUS PERCEPTIONS AND VISTAS.

LANDSCAPE MASTERPLAN/ PARK/ HERITAGE/ TOURISM NGU HANH SON, DA NANG, HCMC UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE| GRADUATION PROJECT|2018 I GOT BOTH EXCITEMENT AND IMPRESSION WHEN I HAD A CHANCE TO TRAVEL BACK TO MY HOMETOWN AND FIRST VISITED THIS SITE IN GRADE 10, THAT IS WHY I CHOSE THIS FOR MY GRADUATION PROJECT. AND AS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, MY AMBITION IS TO THINK ABOUT A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO DEVELOP THIS SITE.

2002

2010

2013

2017

CONTEXT NGŨ HÀNH SƠN - THE MARBLE MOUNTAINS - HAS LONG BEEN A SHINING SPOT FOR TOURISM, A CENTER OF SPIRITUALITY BECAUSE OF IT’S NATURAL BEAUTY AND HERITAGE. IN THE MODERN CONTEXT, RAPID URBANIZATION OF DA NANG CITY NARROWS THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE OF THE SITE, REPLACED BY NEW NEIGHBORHOODS AND FACILITIES FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT.

APPROACH TOURISM, COMMERCE

THE EXISTING SITE IS NOW OPEN FOR TOURISTS TO EXPLORE AS A DESTINATION WHEN VISITING DA NANG. HOWEVER, TO PRESENT AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE BEYOND BEAUTIFUL NATURAL LANDSCAPE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE URBANIZED DA NANG, A MASTERPLAN WITH SPECIFIC STRATEGIES SHOULD BE CREATED WITH DEMANDS FROM ALL KINDS OF USERS, INCLUDING LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND CITIZENS, TOURISTS,... AND THE POTENTIAL VALUES THAT THE PLACE HAS ITSELF.

VISTA NEW SYMBOL

THE VISION OF THIS PROJECT IS TO CREATE A MULTIFUNCTIONAL PUBLIC PARK, WHICH IS OPENED FOR EVERYONE. THE IDEA IS PRESENTED VIA ANALYZING THE UNIQUE LANDFORMS, LOCAL VEGETATION, URBAN CONTEXT,... THEN PROPOSE THE THEMED LANDSCAPES WITH EACH SPECIFIC FUNCTION. AND ALL THE DIVERSE LANDSCAPE WITH UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS IS CONNECTED BY THE MAIN ROAD - THE CULTURAL WAVE - WHICH BRINGS VARIOUS EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THE SITE.

THE GREAT LAWN - THE PARK

THE LARGE LAWN IS PROPOSED AS A FLEXIBLE MAIN EVENT SPACE. IT APPEARS AS THE LARGE OPEN SPACE AT THE CENTER TO EMPHASIZE THE “THỦY SƠN” (WATER MOUNTAIN) WHICH IS THE MAIN CHARACTER, THE FOCAL POINT AND THE PLACE’S IDENTIFICATION.

THE PONDS

THE SITE PASSIVELY FACES FLOODING DURING THE STORMING SEASON IN DA NANG, AS A RESULT, IT PONDS THE SITE AND LIMITS ACCESS. STUDYING AND RESEARCHING MANY INSPIRING CASE STUDIES FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT KONGJIAN YU - TURENSCAPE, THE SOLUTION IS INTRODUCED. BY CUTTING AND FILLING, MANY ‘LANDSCAPE PONDS’ ARE CREATED AS SUSTAINABLE WATER STORAGES. THESE PONDS ALSO NOURISH A LIVELY WILD VEGETATION, ALTERNATING PERCEPTION THROUGH SEASONS.

THE EXHIBITION

NGU HANH SON HAS A VALUABLE HERITAGE WHICH IS THE STONE-SCULPTURE VILLAGE NEARBY. THE PLAN HAS INTRODUCED AN AREA FOR STONE-SCULPTURE ESTABLISHMENTS. BESIDES, A NEW MUSEUM IS INTRODUCED AS A NEW LANDMARK IN THE VILLAGE, CELEBRATING THE VILLAGE CULTURE. THESE INDIVIDUAL BUILDINGS ARE CONNECTED BY THE OPEN GARDEN, A PLACE FOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION AND COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES.

INSPIRED FROM SIMPLE BUT UNIQUE THINGS AROUND THE VILLAGE WHICH ARE EASILY GOT FEELINGS ABOUT, THE STRUCTURE DESCRIBES THE SHAPE OF A LOCAL BOAT FLOATING ON THE POETIC NATURAL LANDSCAPE AS THE FIRST IMPRESSION ON THE TOURISTS WHEN ENTERING THE VILLAGE.
