David Dare, MD was born in Fairfax, Va. He attended Boston College where he completed his bachelor of arts in communications. Shortly after he completed a pre med postbaccalaureate program and earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Va. Sravisht Iyer, MD is a graduate of the Biomedical Engineering program at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his medical training at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. A native of Chicago, Ill., he earned the nickname “Chevy” in 8th grade and it has stuck with him ever since. Chevy is an avid runner and his other interests include writing, baking and exploring his new home city. Ekaterina Khmelnitskaya, MD was born in Moscow, Russia and moved to Iowa City, Iowa when she was eight. She completed her high school education in Iowa City. Ekaterina moved to New York City to attend NYU, where she played volleyball and majored in psychology. She received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and her interests include running, traveling, cooking, snowboarding, being a self-proclaimed foodie, and enjoying the city with her friends. Kofi Mensah MD, PhD was born in the New York City area and graduated from Townsend Harris High School. He attended the combined BS-MD program at the University of Rochester and then entered the MD-PhD program there in 2004. His PhD thesis was on immune system effects on osteoclast fusion. He ran the Chicago Marathon in 2008 and has also served as a guest announcer for a BBC radio show. Additionally, he enjoys traveling, visiting museums, reading about history, amateur photography, and leisurely bike rides. He has served in leadership roles and as an executive committee member for several medical school and national student medical organizations including medical student senate, MD-PhD student council, AMA-MSS, ACP, and APSA. He is eager to continue on the path to becoming an orthopaedic physician-scientist.
Brian Rebolledo, MD hails from the west coast, growing up in Southern California. He attended college at the University of San Diego. From San Diego, he traded in his sandals for the move to New York where he attended medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. When free time affords it, he enjoys golfing, snowboarding, surfing, reading the New York Times and jogging around the reservoir in Central Park. Morgan Swanstrom, MD is originally from Minneapolis, Minn. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for college where she played lacrosse and majored in Kinesiology and Chemistry. She earned her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In her free time, Morgan enjoys cooking, running, playing lacrosse, traveling and trying out new restaurants. Samir Trehan, MD was born in Nashua, N.H. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard University. Samir attended the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University where he earned his medical degree. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, exploring New York City with his wife, Resmi, playing squash, breakdancing and watching Boston sports teams. Stephen Warner MD, PhD was born in Livonia, Mich. and attended the University of Michigan where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in cellular and molecular biology. After completing his undergraduate degree, Stephen trained and competed in the 2004 Olympics as part of the United States Rowing team. He continued his studies at Washington University’s School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., completing his medical degree and PhD.

Benjamin Bjerke-Kroll, MD was born in LaCrosse, Wis. and attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry. Benjamin continued his education at the University of California where he obtained his masters of science degree in organic chemistry. He completed his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Matthew Garner, MD was born in Altoona, Pa. He completed his bachelor of science degree in biology at Juniata College. Matt continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree. He enjoys watching his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he also enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife, Marina. Brian Gladnick, MD was born and raised in Newark, Del. He attended high school at Saint Mark's in Wilmington, and did his undergraduate work at the University of Delaware where he majored in biology and philosophy. He received his medical degree from Cornell University, where he was a member of the soccer club and worked with a summer camp for pediatric burn victims. His interests outside of medicine include skiing, wakeboarding, music, and reading. Stephen Greenfield, MD was born in Denver, CO. He attended Duke University Pratt School of Engineering and completed his bachelor of science in biomedical engineering. Stephen continued his education at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio and obtained his medical degree.

Alexia Hernandez-Soria, MD was born in New York City. She attended Duke University where she completed her bachelor of science degree in psychology. Alexia earned her medical degree at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa. Alexander McLawhorn MD, MBA was born and raised in Charlotte, N.C. He majored in molecular, cellular and developmental biology at Yale University, prior to matriculating at Columbia University, where he earned degrees in medicine and business. He enjoys traveling, cooking and running with his wife, Anne. Some of his other interests include reading, lifting weights, drawing and painting. Venu Nemani, MD, PhD was born and raised in Indiana. He earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University, and moved out west for his medical and graduate degrees at the University of California, San Francisco. In his free time he enjoys running, surfing, playing golf, and spending time with his wife, Jessica. Joseph Schreiber, MD was born in Milwaukee, Wis. He attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and French. Joe also studied French for a year in Paris while completing his undergraduate degree. He completed his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Grant Shifflett, MD grew up in Massanutten, Va. He attended the University of Virginia as an undergraduate and majored in neuroscience. He then headed west to obtain his medical degree from the University of Southern California. Grant enjoys traveling, exploring New York City restaurants, golfing, skiing, and playing basketball and tennis.
Curtis Henn, MD was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University, where he enjoyed eight years of exploring Providence, R.I. and surrounding New England. Both Curtis and his wife grew up spending their summers in Northern Ontario, escaping to the lakes for canoeing, hiking, and camping. Curtis enjoys spending time with his three brothers, sister, and traveling. While at home he loves to play competitive soccer, watch Ohio State football, and explore New York with his wife, Hannah, and golden retriever, Rhody. Mike Khair, MD grew up in Denver, Colo. He attended Bowdoin College where he graduated with majors in chemistry and philosophy. Prior to starting medical school, he spent two years studying health policy and biomedical ethics as a research assistant at the Hastings Center in Garrison, N.Y. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in 2009. When free, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, snowboarding in the Rocky Mountains, and playing lacrosse. Lauren LaMont, MD was born and raised in New York City. She attended Stanford University where she majored in biological sciences. Lauren received her medical degree from New York University. Her interests include surfing and sailing.
Benjamin Ricciardi, MD was born in Washington, D.C. and was raised in Ridgewood, N.J. He attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine where he majored in economics. After his undergraduate work he completed one year of research on in vivo fracture healing with Dr. Mathias Bostrom. Ben attended Cornell University where he received his medical degree. Some of his interests include skiing, golf, basketball, watching football (New York Jets), playing music, and reading.
Patrick Schottel, MD is a native of St. Paul, Minn. As an undergraduate, he attended Princeton University and was a member of the varsity football and track teams. He subsequently earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Patrick enjoys playing basketball, cooking, and traveling with his wife, Nelly. Peter Sculco, MD majored in art history and neuroscience at Princeton University. He attended the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he received his medical degree. Peter grew up in New York City and his interests include road biking, running, surrealist art, and occasionally playing the bongos. Durham Weeks, MD grew up in Charlotte, N.C. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate studies in neuroscience. He went on to receive his medical degree at Vanderbilt University. He enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife Nazy; playing basketball, golf, skiing, and tennis.
Phillip Williams, MD was born in New York City and was raised in Maryland. As an undergraduate at Yale, Phillip studied political science and ran on the varsity track team. After graduation he worked on Wall Street for a year before deciding to pursue medicine. Phillip completed a oneyear post-baccalaureate pre med program and spent a year doing research at John Hopkins before entering Harvard Medical School. His interests include playing basketball and running. Phillip is also an avid jazz fan, plays the saxophone, and produces music in his home studio.

Marschall Berkes, MD is a native of Rochester, N.Y. and attended Cornell University as an undergraduate, where he played varsity football and majored in molecular biology. He later earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He enjoys spending time with his wife Megan, working out, golfing, traveling and rooting for the long-suffering Buffalo Bills. Christopher Dy, MD, MS was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was raised outside of Tampa, Fla. He attended the University of Miami, where he completed his bachelor of science, doctor of medicine, and master of science in public health degrees. His research interests include optimization of post-operative outcomes and addressing health care disparities. Chris enjoys running and cheering on the Miami Hurricanes. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Tiffany. Peter Fabricant, MD is a native of Madison, Conn. and attended the University of Rochester for his undergraduate studies in chemistry and American Sign Language. He went on to earn his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. In his spare time he enjoys photography, running, skiing, ice hockey, tennis, and golfing. Peter plans to run the New York City Marathon in 2011. Alison Kitay, MD was born in Washington, D.C. She was an economics major at Amherst College where she played lacrosse, and she graduated from the NYU School of Medicine. She enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and traveling with her husband, Edwin, and daughter, Paige, who is now 11 months old.

Milton Little, MD was born in New York City, but grew up all over the United States. He attended Stanford University where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in track and field. Following Stanford, he attended University of Michigan Medical School. Milton enjoys traveling, basketball, movies and reading. Benjamin McArthur, MD was born in San Antonio and grew up in central Texas. He received his undergraduate education from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He later received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He enjoys being outdoors, hunting and fishing on his parentsâ€™ ranch, and spending time with his wife Kika, their 3-year-old daughter Gabriela Catalina, and their son Colton, who is 17 months old. Moira McCarthy, MD is originally from upstate New York. She earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her medical degree from Columbia University. She played soccer, basketball, and softball throughout high school and college. Moira enjoys traveling, baking, and running. She plans on running the New York City Marathon during her residency. Samuel Taylor, MD grew up in Connecticut and played wide receiver as an undergraduate for the Harvard University football team. After college, he lived in Cleveland, Ohio, where he met his wife, Jennifer, and also pledged allegiance to the Browns. In medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, Sam played rugby and basketball. He also enjoys saltwater fishing with his dad.
Michael Cross, MD is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He attended Washington University in St. Louis for his undergraduate education, where he double majored in chemistry and mathematics and played varsity football. He is an avid Mets and Colts fan, and enjoys playing golf.
Curtis Mina, MD, MBA graduated from Duke University, completing both his MD and MBA degrees in 2007. He attended college at Northwestern University. In his free time, Curtis enjoys alpine climbing, martial arts, and biking. He will pursue a career in spine surgery upon completion of his residency.
Demetris Delos, MD was born and raised in Queens, N.Y. He attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and Cooper Union and SUNY Binghamton for his undergraduate studies. He received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College and enjoys billiards, skiing, soccer and travel.
Denis Nam, MD was raised in Chicago and attended Yale University, where he majored in economics and captained the varsity hockey team. He earned his medical degree at Northwestern University. In his free time, he enjoys playing the guitar and cello, spending time with his fiancĂŠe, Anna, and taking trips back home.
Constantine Demetracopoulos, MD grew up in Bethesda, Md. and attended Brown University as an undergraduate where he rowed on the varsity crew team. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins, and in his free time enjoys playing golf.
Keith Reinhardt, MD was born and raised in Long Island, N.Y. He attended Cornell University for his undergraduate work, where he double majored in biology and nutritional science. He received his medical degree from New York University and plans to complete his training in an Arthroplasty Fellowship at Harvard Brigham and Women's Hospital next year. Having grown up on the south shore of Long Island, he enjoys spending time boating, fishing, playing golf, and of course, spending time with his wife, Amie and their one-year-old son, Tyler.
Kristofer Jones, MD was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. He attended the University of Chicago as an undergraduate, where he played tailback for the varsity football team. He later received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Kris is a diehard Cubs fan and his hobbies include reading, working out, wine tasting, and playing golf and basketball. Dennis Meredith, MD was born in Kalispell, Mont. He attended Stanford University where he played in the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and had a very unsuccessful attempt at becoming a rock star with a local college band. He later attended Harvard Medical School. In his spare time, he enjoys fly fishing and skiing.
Mark Schrumpf, MD is a native Californian. He was born in San Francisco and stayed in the Bay Area for his undergraduate education at Stanford. He received his medical degree from University of Southern California. In his spare time, Mark enjoys running, playing golf, cycling and spending time with family and friends.

October ’11: Significant Others Dinner HSS treats your spouses or significant others to an elegant dinner, organized by the Chief Residents’ “others.” They get to meet one another, and often form longlasting friendships.

October 15, 2011: Golf and Tennis Day Take a day off to join attendings, residents and fellows for outdoor sports and dinner at a private estate—transportation will be provided.

January 2012: Resident/Fellow Skating Party at Rockefeller Center Every year, the Residents and Fellows are invited to the famous skating rink at Rockefeller Center for a fun evening. There is a catered dinner and skating. Children are welcome. February 10, 2012: HSS Alumni Cocktail Party, AAOS Annual Meeting Residents attending the conference in San Francisco are encouraged to join HSS attendings and alumni for a great evening. June ’12: Chief’s Roast A night of laughs including, dinner, drinks, and the wacky satire of your favorite Chief Residents.
November 10, 2011: Alumni Association Cocktail Reception, Rockefeller University November 10-12, 2011: 93rd Annual Alumni Association Meeting You and a guest are invited to the Alumni Association Reception for some food, drinks and live music. Residents may also attend the Annual Alumni Association Meeting, featuring two days of lectures, debates, and symposia on current topics in musculoskeletal health. December ’11: HSS Holiday Party

All Year: Caspary Lodge This Tudor estate in upstate New York was donated to HSS as a retreat, primarily for residents and fellows. Bring your family and friends and enjoy one of the three houses available. There is a very low fee to visit. Enjoy the pool, tennis court, and stunning view of the Catskill mountains.
