HAPPY HOPPERS NEWSLETTER June 2014

www.happy-hoppers.com

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE We are nearing the end of our terms as copresidents and again we would like to thank everyone in the Happy Hoppers for being so supportive of us. You were always willing to help with dances, especially the “biggies” like the New Year’s Eve and Anniversary. Now is the time to step up and offer this same support to Jim and Brenda Martinez. One of the first things they will need to do is to get rolling on the New Year’s Eve Dance. Someone will need to chair the committee and find members who are willing to help with this. A New Year’s theme is the first item on the agenda. Advertising will need to go into the OFN early in the dance season, September if possible. This will be brought up at the

picnic on August 3. Put on your thinking caps and come with some ideas for this, our biggest dance of the year. Also have your calendars handy so you can sign up to host lessons on Mondays, and to be on the door or help in the kitchen at dances. If everyone signed up for a dance a couple would only need to do this for one dance. Thank you again for your support. We have a GREAT club! Don and Joanne Oja Ron and Emily Chase

Columbia Gorge Plus Visitation by Tom Halpenny The Columbia Gorge Plus club hosted 14 Happy Hoppers for the May 2nd visitation in Hood River. Caller Dan Preedy from Spokane and cuer Molly Combs entertained dancers. Several Happy Hoppers met at nearby Charburger Country before the dance. I sat next to a couple outside and asked whether they were going to the square dance? They were non-responsive, so I gave up and went inside. We met up with friends who had ordered their burgers, and before long everyone was tanking up to prepare for the square dance that was about to begin. We arrived at the Rockford Grange and were greeted by friendly club members, including current presidents Ordell and Shirley Enstad. Happy Hopper visitors were pleased to meet several friends from past visitations. Hank Balsiger is a former president who used to organize the former annual Carson Campout event. The dance had three squares total, so the hosts were grateful to have our company. The social break after the dancing offered tasty treats to enjoy. Hank makes colorfully decorated woven yarn clothes hangers that he likes to give away as club raffle prizes. Many thanks to Walt and Pauline Eby who organized the visitation and dine out for Randy, Jackie, Ron, Emily, Tom, Liza, Ed, Elsie, Phil, Ilona, Leonard, and Linda.
