Our Savioir came to get Messy!
As you begin the Christmas season, let me ask you this question “Is your house a mess?” If your house is anything like my own, you have boxes of decorations, tons of wrapping paper, and assorted strands of lights, many of which do not work. If that was not bad enough, the clean calendar that you so responsibly posted to keep your life from becoming overwhelmed is now messy. It is covered with dates, parties, events, and errands that make the 25 days of Christmas seem like an allout sprint instead of a seasonal stroll. Both our home and our hearts can become messy but I have some great news for you. God sent His son to become “Messy”. As our Lord left heaven, took off the royal robe of His righteousness and put on the flesh of man, He Vera Family entered into a world that had become seriously messy. Messy with problems, pain, and a permeating poison that infected all of the hearts and lives of those walking on planet earth. The poison was SIN and the only remedy was a blood transfusion. The Best Kind of Growth It’s always exciting to see growth! Whether in a child, family, or the church, growth is something everyone can get behind. However, the fact that we are such a visually dependent society often causes us to misjudge growth. In the youth over the past few months we have seen a great deal of growth. While it can’t be seen, or may not appear obvious it is happening nonetheless. We have seen our leaders growing spiritually, developing a more personal walk with Christ. This is so vital to the future success of our students, their families, and ultimately the church. What this has allowed them to do is to now lead students more effectively. In November we started our 1st annual discipleship emphasis, and over the next few weeks our students will be submerged in God’s word! Those leaders who have developed a closer walk with Christ will now be leading others in the same way. Please take the time to encourage Help the youth begin to raise money for our leaders and students as it will be time well spent. their new building by using the youth

Some say It's the most wonderful time of the year! The Charlie Brown Christmas movie which is watched by millions each year, gives the Christmas season the real meaning as to why we celebrate it in the first place.
Help send our kids to camp. Buy a sign for your front yard, business or grandparents.
While everyone is talking about what they are going to get for Christmas. In the middle of all this Charlie Brown ask, does anybody know what Christmas is all about? Linus says "I'll tell you what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown." Linus then quotes from Luke chapter 2 verses 8‐14. It is such a simple story, but most of the world misses the true meaning behind it, which is that God sent his one an only son (Jesus) to earth that we might have salvation through Him and Him alone! M e d ic a l M in s t r y Faith and Health Connection with Your Body and Stress The holidays are upon us. Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas is just a few weeks away. It’s a time of great fun and excitement as we make plans for family visits, parties, and all those meals to plan and gifts to buy. Holidays can lead to unrealistic expectation which can leave us feeling cranky, impatient, and in some cases depressed. In Great Britain the word “holiday” means vacation. I think we American’s would find that laughable. Many of us see this season as a big todolist as we strive to make it the perfect event. This leads to unrealistic expectation adding to stress and sometimes depression. Review the chart below to see the “Effects of Stress on Your Body”.
Way to manage holiday stress: • Shop ahead and stick to your gift budget. • Meal planning – make it simple and let others help by bring their favorite dish. • Simplify events and do not over commit yourself. • Avoid overeating and continue to exercise. • Don’t spend all you time planning and doing for the family. Stop and enjoy the time. • Most importantly take time to meditate. The starting point in dealing with stress of any kind is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the great comforter and He offers us great encouragement in Matthew 11:2830 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” This is a wonderful time of year, but it can also be a very stressful time of year. So remember to take time for yourself and spend some quiet time with Jesus because Jesus is the Reason for the Season. Susan Shirley, ARNP

It is no secret that Christmas is my
favorite time of the year. In fact, I act like a kid, maybe that’s why I’m the children’s director. I love the lights, the music, buying special gifts for those in my life, but most importantly, the reminder that Jesus came to live on this Earth knowing he would die for me, a very underserving soul. Our Children have been learning about the true reason for Christmas through their Christmas musical, Arrest These Merry Gentlemen. We will be performing on December 11th during the evening service. I’m so proud of all the hard work they have put into this program. I’m also excited that we

Young Married De‐stressing Christmas: Tips for handling common holiday tensions for couples (Any anyone else with a pulse)
The giving of gifts The gift‐giving tradition can put a lot of financial and emotional stress on a couple. On the Holmes and Rahe psychological stress scale, Christmas traditions are listed as more stressful than minor law violations, and financial difficulties rank equal to the death of a close friend. Combined? Bah! Humbug! •Set a budget: Keep the “ghost of Christmas past” from haunting your credit card statements and your thoughts. Look at your finances together and create a realistic spending limit for the Christmas season. Account for any upcoming expenditures you may have in the New Year. •Make a list and check it twice: Work with your spouse to decide who you’ll bless with gifts. If your budget is tight this year, don’t be afraid to take cost‐ cutting measures. For example, you could give one gift per family instead of one to each individual. •Get creative: You don’t have to buy your presents from the shopping mall. Baked goods and handmade crafts can be budget‐friendly and memorable.
College and Career
As Christmas rolls around, it can be either a season of cheer or a season to fear. The stress of the holidays, with all its planning, negotiating – whose parents should you visit this year? – and the financial strain of gift‐giving can make you want to pack away the mistletoe. Don’t let Christmas pull you and your spouse apart. Instead, careful planning can help de‐stress the holiday so you have more time Wednesday Bible Study totruly celebrate the gift of Christ together.

Visiting the in‐laws Decking the halls is great. Decking your in‐laws? Not so much. Holiday stress, paired with disagreements with or about your spouse’s parents, can make you want to climb up the chimney. Annie Chapman, author of The Mother‐In‐Law Dance, says that anyone who's been married for longer than one Christmas knows just how taxing it can be. But don’t let it spoil your eggnog! •Talk to your spouse: Disagreements with or about your in‐laws can make your spouse feel threatened or defensive, and likewise for you if your spouse doesn’t get along with your parents. Make it clear that you love your spouse unconditionally and that any holiday tensions, big or small, don’t change that. •Take a break: At a family gathering, don’t wait until you’re so frustrated that you engage in a verbal conflict. If things start grating on your nerves, take a break and step away from the situation. A walk outdoors or a quick jaunt to the store can give you the breathing space you need to calm down before things get out of control. •Plan ahead: Waiting until the Christmas season to announce that you’re not planning to attend Christmas dinner can create disappointment or resentment in your in‐laws. Plan your holiday schedule with your spouse months in advance and alert each set of in‐laws about your plans. •Look inward and upward: Sometimes, it’s not the in‐laws who are grumpy and disagreeable. You may not be able to change them, but you can change yourself and your personal reaction to situations. Pray and meditate on God’s Word and ask for discernment, patience and wisdom.
Enjoying Christmas together The fake snow littering the shopping malls, the Christmas songs in TV commercials and the everyday busyness of the holidays can diminish some of Christmas’ peaceful glory. Rediscover the true meaning of the holidays together as a couple. •Discuss expectations: Everyone has a different childhood tradition or expectation that defines the holiday for them. Talk to your spouse about the seasonal practices and traditions that mean a lot to you. Together, you can create new traditions that encompass both of your expectations so no one’s left feeling like the holiday lacked a little luster.
