By Hope Bundrant There is nothing more frustrating than trying to lose weight. You try to eat all the right things and avoid the wrong ones. You huff and puff on the treadmill only to spend the rest of the day scared to gain those calories back. You lift weights without seeing any real results. I go to the gym almost everyday and see people kicking their butts trying to lose fat and reduce their weight. I always think to myself, if they only knew that it doesn't have to be that hard. I’ve found, through preparing for bikini competitions, there are a few things that make the journey from fat to fit a little faster and simpler.

Sleep Five Benefits to a Good Night’s Sleep & Five Tips for Getting It! How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Experts say that getting an extra hour of sleep can change your life for the better. Studies show that the gap between getting just enough sleep and getting too little sleep may affect your health, your mood, your weight, and even your sex life. Read more on page 8.

Of course there is no one magic pill for fat loss like the media would have you believe, but a combination of the right supplements, foods and exercise make it go so much quicker! Below are my five tips to get you started on the right path.

Heart Health Do You Know Your “Advanced” Risk Factors for a Heart Attack or Stroke?

Tip 1: Eating schedule. As we age our metabolism slows down and we can’t just eat a lot less for a couple days and lose a few pounds. The truth is, our body needs to know it’s going to get food throughout the day in order to let excess fat go. When your body knows it will get some more food in a few hours, it will allow its metabolism to speed up, burning at a regular speed, like it did when it was younger. Food goes in, food goes out like a machine. As soon as you don’t put food in when it is expecting it, it says, “I better burn slower or I’ll run out of energy to keep going.” And your metabolism slows down. Skipping meals is NOT the way to lose weight. It will NOT work.

So, eating every three hours, totaling five or six meals a day is the goal. However, proper portion size and food choice are essential. Here are the rules: No more than three of those meals should have a healthy carbohydrate such as oats, sweet potato, or rice and should be no more than about 30 grams of carbs per meal. Each meal should include a lean protein of around 25 grams. That protein can be powder, white meat, fish, eggs, or lean beef. And at least four of the meals should include about a cup of veggies but not super Continued on page 10

New research shows that 60% of patients who have a heart attack of stroke actually have normal traditional risk factors. In other words you could pass your next physical exam with your doctor and be told you are perfectly healthy, and later that same year have a massive stroke or heart attack. Read more on page 13.

Introducing Maria Vitale Salon: The Center for Healthy Hair There is no such thing as bad hair, only poorly treated hair.

Now’s the time to change all that! By Hope Bundrant When we think about our health we don’t usually think about our hair. I think it’s an easy area to forget about. We try to eat healthy and live healthy but when it comes to our hair, we usually only care about how it looks. But what about its health? With all the products we put on our hair, we are unknowingly killing it. We are causing it to thin and wear down. Most of the products we use are simply coating it over and over like wax on a floor, causing it to not breathe. Our poor hair is suffocating and we just keep layering more goop on it. You might be thinking that when you wash it, all the gunk comes off. But it doesn’t. From shampoo to conditioner, from gel to color, it all builds up and actually forms a hard coating over the hair. The mission at Maria Vitale Salon is to teach their clients how to achieve healthy hair & scalp by formulating a plan using PHYTO PARIS, who recommends alternating between hair care concerns in order to achieve best results. They focus on formulating a specific prescription for your hair. They begin by using a scoping machine to evaluate the current condition of your hair & scalp which will guide them with the knowledge in how to proceed. So how do you get the hard build up off so it can breathe again? The first step is with a scalp purifying and hydrating treatment. They are actually providing this service free right now with the purchase of a haircut, for first time clients. After that, your prescription may vary starting with treatments or just changing your shampoo to our Daily Essentials line that will help remove current

build up and allow your hair and scalp to breathe freely. They are there to help guide you and want your experience at Maria Vitale Salon to be a lasting one. Therefore, they first establish their clients desired outcome and options to achieve that result based upon budget, time constraints and current lifestyle. Their products work hand in hand to help achieve and maintain your needs. PHYTO Paris, explores the world in search of the finest ingredients. Overall, their formulas contain over 500 active botanical ingredients and are 95% botanical. Their scientists extract the most active molecules found in the root, flower, bud, fruit, resin, or seeds. The manufacturing secret lies in the various extraction methods used, such as decoction or maceration. Also, PHYTO's highly concentrated formulas are housed in recyclable aluminum and glass for their non-porous properties which help minimize the use of preservatives. The result: formulas that are highly concentrated in active botanical ingredients, with minimal to no water added, and no parabens, formaldehyde, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes and alcohol, or silicones. To meet your hair coloring needs they feel it’s necessary to use a product line that carries the same message. They chose a color line that uses a patented “green tea “formula, naturally derived ingredients with fade resistant results and tubes that are manufactured using 100% wind power and are made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. Take if from me, my hair has never felt better! It feels soft and healthy and is so much easier to manage now that the gunk is gone. The staff is so freindly and helpful with styling tips. Because the PHYTO products are 95% natural, I expected them to be very expensive. But they aren’t. They are the same price you would pay for salon products but last three times longer. I was shocked when I left and after the first time using them at home. Maria Vitale Salon is the place to go if you want healthy, beautiful hair, naturally. Easy Organic and GMO-Free Garden in Your Own Backyard!

Compost Happens! Four Steps To Build Your Own Compost Pile

Enjoy a Hassle-Free vegetable garden because we set it up and maintain it for you...Then you Enjoy!

By Andy Cannella To have a healthy, thriving garden, your vegetables need a healthy, thriving soil. A nutrient rich, bio-diverse soil allows plants to grow larger, produce more and have better resistance to disease and insects.

• We install and set up your vegetable garden • We plant seasonal varieties of your choice • We water, weed and fertilize plants • We harvest at the peak of maturity

Soil types in our area can range from hard-as-rock decomposed granite to loose sand. While there are some of the trace minerals that plants need, they are typically lacking in nutrients. The best way to add those nutrients is by adding compost. Compost also improves the soils texture, water retention and porosity. The best thing of all is that you can make it yourself with materials that you would have otherwise thrown away! 1. Select your compost site. Composting can be done in a free-standing pile or in a bin. While the bin might be more aesthetically pleasing, the process and end product are the same no matter how you do it. Start by selecting a site, you will need a space about 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. It doesn’t need to be the focal point of you garden, but should be convenient and close to a water source. A good choice is the spot you will have a garden bed next year. 2. Next gather your materials. Compost is made by combining green/wet and dry/brown materials in equal amounts by volume. Never add meat, fat, bones or dog and cat waste. Examples of green materials are lawn clippings, kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells and various manures. Brown materials are things like dried leaves and can be a little harder to come by than the greens. A good and inexpensive source is a bale of straw.

What is Yeast Overgrowth? By Dr. Alexander Shikhman, Institute for Specialized Medicine

Every day someone’s wellness journey begins.

Candida albicans is a part of normal intestinal microflora. Under certain circumstances, the usual yeast-like form of C. albicans switches into an invasive, multicellular filamentous one and can become pathogenic for humans. This condition is commonly known as yeast overgrowth. Candida overgrowth can cause a broad gamut of symptoms including bloating, abdominal pain, fatigue and diarrhea, hives, a craving for sweets, acne, migrane headaches and eczema. Candida overgrowth is frequently seen in individuals with gluten intolerance and celiac disease, those who frequently use antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid hormones and birth control pills. The overgrowth can manifest in several ways including thrush, chronic yeast infections or skin rashes. Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth that is typically characterized by a white coating on the tongue. Yeast infections are often found in women as vaginal yeast infections. Skin rashes manifest as red, inflamed areas typically in warm areas such as underarms.

HELP…& HOPE: THAT’S IFSMED! Institute for Specialized Medicine

Candida can be difficult to get rid of because it forms a gel-like structure (biofilm) around itself, which prevents antibiotics and antifungal products from penetrating. Because of this barrier, candida can exist for months or even years.

Wisdom Teeth- The “Pros” of Removal and “Cons” of Watchful Waiting By Dr. Dmitry Tsvetov DDS MD The debate about wisdom teeth has always centered around one major question: Do wisdom teeth need to be removed or not? It has long been established that wisdom teeth that have associated pathology (tooth decay, gum disease, infection, pathologic cysts or tumors enveloping the root) need to be removed. However, the question has always remained whether pain free, erupted (in the mouth) or impacted (not in the mouth) wisdom teeth have to be removed? Does “pain-free” wisdom tooth also mean “disease-free” wisdom tooth? Recently, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons published the results of the “Third Molar Clinical Trials.” This was a major clinical study performed by “The Task Force for Third Molar.” The Task Force, which consisted of distinguished clinicians in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from major US academic institutions, collected and interpreted clinical information relating to the management of third molar “wisdom” teeth over the period of fifteen years. The results of their work are outlined below: Part A: Frequency of disease involving the wisdom teeth in patients in whom wisdom teeth are asymptomatic (pain-free): 25% to 60% of patients, depending on their age or gender, had clinical evidence of inflammatory gum disease. 28% to 77% of patients with asymptomatic wisdom teeth will have tooth decay (caries). Part B: What happens to wisdom teeth if they are retained (not removed)? Retained wisdom teeth change their position over time, but not in a predictable way. They may erupt into the mouth and subsequently develop decay and inflammatory gum disease. Among patients with pain-free wisdom teeth who have no evidence of inflammatory gum disease, 30% to 40% developed inflammatory gum disease after a period of 5 years. In 40% of patients with visible wisdom teeth and gum disease and bone loss present, the bone loss is expected to also involve the other molar teeth within 2 years. Young and adolescent patients with visible wisdom teeth have a greater risk of developing inflammatory gum disease compared with their peers without visible wisdom teeth.

ease, cyst or a tumor around it. Among patients with pain-free and disease-free wisdom teeth who chose to keep their wisdom teeth, at least one third of the wisdom teeth develop disease within 4 years and need removal. Part C: Summary of outcomes after wisdom teeth removal: Removing wisdom teeth significantly improves the gum and bone health of adjacent teeth. Removal of wisdom teeth resulted in threefold reduction in the proportion of adjacent molar teeth with gum and bone disease. Most young, healthy adults may expect to have full recovery within 5 days or less after wisdom teeth removal.

Increasing age (greater than 24 years), level of impaction of the wisdom Only 75% of impacted, pain-free wisdom teeth are free of disease. So, if tooth and the need to remove bone are associated with delayed patient a patient has 4 impacted wisdom teeth, even though they are pain free, recovery after the surgery and delayed clinical healing. Pain-free Wisdom teeth does not mean disease-free wisdom teeth. Even if the wisdom teeth are not bothering you, you may still have wisdom tooth decay or inflammatory gum disease around your wisdom teeth. The older you are when you get your wisdom teeth out (after the age of 24), the more difficult the procedure, the longer the recovery, and the higher the risk for complications. If you choose to keep your wisdom teeth, make sure your dentist routinely monitors them for any evidence of pathology developing around them. Your Greatest Treasures are Oen Hidden Just Beneath Your Fears

Studies reveal that the way you think is powerful. The old adage from your grandmother, “mind over matter,” now shows that an attitude adjustment can change your life. Lynn McTaggart, in the Intention Experiment says, “A thought is a thing that affects other things.” Here are eight steps to tweak your thinking and transform your present conditions: Step 1: Avoid overwhelm coming from an over-identification with family and friends which prevent you from finding what you really want to do with your life. When you lose touch with your real self through the various roles you play, you can feel stressed out and ineffective. Instead, develop greater authenticity with a sincere curiosity to know the weaker parts of yourself – the shy or easily intimidated - and you will be rewarded with newfound clarity. Step 2: Overcome resistance to your creativity, which often disguises itself as perfectionism. Brene Brown says: “Healthy striving is self-focused: “How can I improve.” Perfectionism is other-focused: “What will they think.” Do something you love every day – even for just thirty minutes and the momentum you build becomes a law onto itself. Sing, paint, write, or start a new enterprise. Your inner fire becomes an attractive force, sparking a sense of possibility. Your enthusiasm turns into purpose by casting sunlight over shadows. Step 3: Slow down, listen to your gut feelings – your inner fire comes from there. Discover what hole inside you’re trying to fill with busyness. Your emotions are not meant to scare you, but to connect you to intuitive guidance and wisdom. Step 4: Let go of what you can’t control and take the higher road whenever possible. Your mind will reject heaviness and your body will only carry so much baggage before it turns on itself. Let go of resentments or memories which pull your focus backward. Inspiration and the answers you seek are always in the present. Step 5: Keep your eye on the ‘prize.’ Maintain your own personal value system, which is what you answer to at the end of the day. This raises self-esteem in the midst of uncertainty. There is something amazing and unique for you to do that will make a difference in someone’s life. Step 6: Whisper ‘yes’ to a dream and practice non-attachment to the results. Give space for the Divine Mystery to unfold in your life. When you don’t internalize setbacks as trauma, you increase faith and the resilience to bounce back without hindering your progress. Step 7: Practice mindfulness through awareness of your breathing throughout the day and you will keep your brain from going into auto-pilot. This simple practice creates a space for appreciation to crowd out troubling thoughts. Soon the space is filled with more reasons to be grateful. Step 8: Practice compassion. You are both the donor and the beneficiary of your own loving and forgiving feelings toward others – all others. The Dali Lama says, “The rewards of practicing compassion go first to the practitioner.” A changed attitude will be reflected in everything you do. You begin to anticipate the best instead of expecting the worst and you make healthier choices. You’re the only one who can experience this for yourself and you will see evidence sooner than you think.

Five Benefits to a Good Night’s Sleep & Five Tips for Getting It! How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Experts say that getting an extra hour of sleep can change your life for the better. Studies show that the gap between getting just enough sleep and getting too little sleep may affect your health, your mood, your weight, and even your sex life. If you are getting less than the recommended seven or eight hours of sleep, here are some reasons why you should shut off the cell phones and computers and go to bed an hour early tonight. A Healthy Makeover. Getting a good night's sleep by itself, won't prevent diseases, but various studies have found a link between a lack of sleep and some serious health problems such as heart disease, heart attacks, diabetes, and obesity. Sufficient sleep will improve memory, curb inflammation, and spur creativity, resulting in a healthier and happier you! Also, getting enough sleep can lower stress levels, and stress is a major cause of disease. More Whoopee Time! Sleep disorders and chronic sleep loss can hit the sack hard in another area: sex. According to a poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, up to 26% of people say that their sex lives tend to suffer because they're just too tired. The combination of low energy and increased tension caused by lack of sleep -- a situation

known as “tense tiredness” -- can also lead to sexual dysfunction. Lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your sex life, relationships, and your social life. Less pain. It has been estimated that nearly twothirds of those with chronic pain suffer from a sleep disorder. If you have chronic pain - or acute pain from a recent injury - getting enough sleep may actually make you hurt less. Lack of sleep can worsen pain, and of course more intense pain then continues to interfere with sleep, so the two symptoms can become a vicious cycle. Many studies have shown a link between sleep loss and lower pain threshold. A Sleepy Brain Equals Weight Gain. Losing sleep tends to make people eat more and gain weight, and now a new study suggests that one reason may be the impact that sleep deprivation has on the brain. The research showed that depriving people of sleep for one night created pronounced changes in the way their brains responded to high-calorie junk foods. On days when the subjects had not had proper sleep, fattening foods like potato chips and sweets stimulated stronger responses in a part of the brain that helps govern the motivation to eat. But at the same time, the subjects experienced a sharp reduction in activity in the frontal cortex, a higher-level part of the brain where consequences are weighed and rational decisions are made. Now that we have identified various disadvantages caused by insufficient sleep, try these remedies to get your routine on track. Practice Good Sleep Hygiene. Follow good sleep habits, especially ensuring the bedroom en-

vironment is conducive to sleep. Among experts' recommendations: Use the bedroom only for sleep and sex; keep regular sleep and wake times; ensure the bedroom is a dark, cool, quiet place; and get computers and TVs out of the sleep environment, because they stimulate the brain and their light tells the body "it's daytime," disrupting the internal clock. Try Not To Self-Medicate. Treating yourself with over-the-counter medications is not the best idea because they never solve the problem. They just help you through it. But those medications can induce next-day grogginess - what some patients call "sleep hangovers"- and they can actually have an alerting or a disorienting side effects, especially on the elderly. Have A Healthy Work-Life Balance. It’s important to have some sort of break from the day's stress before sleep. If you know you're going to bed at 9:30, stop your day at 9:15, or sooner if you can. Shortchanging that break can be a recipe for insomnia. Write down all the things you need to worry about on a piece of paper, and do your best to leave them behind. Whether asleep or awake, there's likely nothing you can do about them until tomorrow anyway. Keep dinner light. When you go to bed, you want to neither be hungry or stuffed either feeling can keep you awake. So if you tend to eat your dinner late, this is even more important. The alternative is going to bed later, but you don't want that either! Rich, fatty foods are harder for the stomach to digest. The heavier the food, the more conscious of it you'll be, making it harder to fall asleep. And be wary of spicy foods -- heartburn is just as unpleasant at night as it is during the day Develop A Pre-Bed Relaxation Ritual. Children aren’t the only ones who need bedtime consis-

Summertime Tips to Protect Your Hair By Lena Marie Memorial weekend for me seems to always be the start of my favorite season, summer! I love the sun, the warm weather and anything to do with water. Whether it be the pool, a river, lake or the beautiful ocean, the summer season triggers that desire in many of us to go out and play. Although sun and water make a wonderful combination, they aren’t always the best thing for our hair or scalp. Our skin is not the only part of us that can be damaged by the things we do while enjoying the summer season. Lots of exposure to the sun can fade/lighten our hair, which can also cause it to become drier. The water in that refreshing pool can also do the same. But there are ways that you can protect your beautiful mane from these unintentional offenders. Wearing hats is a great way to not only protect your hair and scalp, but with the right brim can also protect your face and neck. There are also hair products that will protect your locks from the harsh rays of the sun. When applying sunscreen on your hair or skin, don’t forget your scalp! I see sun burned scalps on my clients at this time of year, especially where the part is. This can lead to peeling, dry scalp and other skin issues.

When you’re out playing at the pool, it helps to wet your hair with the hose before you jump in. Our hair is like a sponge and, when dry, it will absorb whatever liquid we put on it. Better to fill it with plain water than the pool water which contains chlorine and other chemicals that can not only dry and damage our hair, but in some cases cause it to turn green. Wetting the hair before diving in makes it much harder for the chlorinated water to penetrate your hair cuticle because it’s already full. Much like a sponge, if it’s already full of water it can’t take on any more. When you leave the pool, wring your hair out and then rinse it again with the hose. It also helps to keep a spray on/leave in conditioner in your beach bag. Applying this to your wet hair while you’re out enjoying your summer fun will not only protect your hair but help to keep it shiny and hydrated. Another option for healthy summer hair ise to wet your hair and put your favorite deep conditioner on and wrap it in a bun. The warmth of the sun will help the hydrating and conditioning agents to penetrate deeper into your hair. Rinse it out at the end of your day and enjoy the beautiful soft happy locks you’ll have. Go ahead get out there and enjoy your summer plans. Just remember to respect the elements and your hair and scalp by protecting them from the harsh things of the summer that can leave you feeling like the Gobi Dessert, while still allowing that wonderful vitamin D to leave you looking sun kissed rather than sun burnt. The word of this season is Hydration, Hydration, Hydration. You won’t regret it and neither will your lovely locks. Enjoy your summer everyone! I addiction Beware of Ambien Addiction

drowsiness, and nausea.

By Ranch Creek Recovery Ambien is the brand name of the drug Zolpidem, which is prescribed by doctors to treat insomnia. This is a popular drug for business travelers suffering from jet lag, and is commonly being used by teens. Doctors typically prescribe Ambien in low dosses and for a period of no longer than 30 days because of the potential danger involved with taking the medication. Users of the drug are said to feel comfortable, relaxed, and sleepy and the high is typically considered to be like that of drinking a lot of alcohol because some users report losing control of their body while on Ambien. Other similarities with alcohol use include waking up with a hangover, headaches, memory loss,

Paradoxical Excitation is the term doctors use to describe the unusual behaviors of some patients who are on the medication, which can include: walking, eating, or even driving a car without any recollection of doing so. These behaviors are increased when a dependence on the medication develops. Users are at risk of developing a tolerance of Ambien if they use the medication longer than 30 days, which can lead to increasing the size of the dosage in order to feel the effects and furthermore, lead to overdosing. Ambien has the ability to change the chemistry in the brain to trick it into thinking it needs the drug in order to function, and that is a serious problem. Ambien dependence is on the rise with teenagers everywhere. Of the six million new prescription drug abusers, 44 percent are younger than 18 years old, says a study by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

It is crucial for drug prevention agencies to target the younger generation in order to get the important information across about the dangers of prescription medication like Ambien.

Top 5 Tips for Faster Weight Loss sweet veggies like corn or peas. If you can keep this up for a week, you will absolutely see results. Now onto the fats…

Tip 2: Keep up the fats Just like your body depends on a regular eating schedule to burn calories efficiently, it also needs to get a regular intake of fat to feel safe to release the stored fat. Most fat loss diets tell you to reduce your fat intake so you body can burn stored fats. That’s not entirely true. The tip is to eat less fat, but keep eating healthy fats regularly. Think of it like this: You have a bunch of stored bad fat, the kind that build up and cause cellulite. They are just sitting there, globbed together with toxins that you took in when you ate those fats. They are fats from hydrogenated oils, palm oil, excess animal fats, etc…They need to leave. However, unless your body knows those fats will be replaced, it won’t let go of them. So, the goal is to give yourself a fat transfusion by replacing the bad fats with good fats.

Ranch Creek Recovery is a licensed Alcohol and Drug Treatment facility located in the hills of Temecula offering all levels of care including Residential and Outpatient Treatment Locations.

There are some ways to do this without gaining more fat. One way is to take a good 3-6-9 Omega supplement three times a day. This ensures that your body is getting the fats it needs on a regular schedule. Then, you can also add fats into your meals through: ½ an avocado, an ounce of almonds, a Tbsp of almond butter on a couple rice cakes. It is really important to not overdue the nuts. A lot of people think nuts are a great source of protein, and true, they may contain protein grams, but they are super high in fats, so they are NOT to be used as a protein source. Use them sparingly as your healthy fat. Fats are still fats. Too much and you will gain instead of lose.

Tip 3: Fat Metabolizing Supplements Including fat metabolizing supplements in your regular vitamin/supplement regime is super important. They work by allowing your body to process the fats in a quicker, more efficient way. They also protect your organs in the process. Again, the key is to naturally lose weight and burn fat quickly.

Here are five supplements I recommend: Chromium Picolinate: Works by allowing your body to better break down and burn fat and store less. It also aids in the formation of lean muscle, which burns more calories. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): It is a natural occurring omega-6 related fatty acid. It helps the body increase metabolic rates, boost the immune system and keep cholesterol levels in check. L-carnitine: It is a metabolite, a building block for protein, which helps your body convert fat into energy more quickly. By speeding up the conversion rate, you burn fat calories faster each day. Thermogenic Fat Burner: There are a variety of these available. They heat your body up from the inside to burn fat faster, similar to how an infrared sauna works. This is a supplement you take on an empty stomach prior to doing cardio. I see a lot of people wearing their hoodies and sweats, trying to heat up while doing their cardio. Sweating from the external sources is not actually the way to burn fat faster. Do it by heating up from the inside, thermogenically, to increase fat loss. Fat burners have had a bad wrap since the whole Continued on next page

A Natural Solution for Chronic Yeast Overgrowth

Tired of searching for effective supplements?

By Gluten-Free Remedies Candidacillin is a proprietary blend of four food ingredients, including calcium undecylenate, calcium disodium EDTA, caprylic acid and monolaurine, composed by Gluten-Free Remedies to optimize the gut microflora/microbiome and to control the intestinal yeast overgrowth. Calcium undecylenate is a calcium salt of undecylenic acid, an organic unsaturated fatty acid derived from castor oil. In the United States, undecylenic acid is FDA-approved as an over-the-counter antifungal agent. It is commonly used to treat fungal skin infections, such as athlete's foot, ringworm, and jock itch. Undecylenic acid inhibits conversion of yeast cells into the pathogenic form. Calcium disodium EDTA is a mixture of calcium and sodium salts of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, widely abbreviated as EDTA. EDTA helps destroy negative microbial and fungal biofilms thus allowing other positive anti-microbial or anti-fungal agents target problem areas. Furthermore, EDTA and its salts express a strong antifungal activity toward Candida albicans. Caprylic acid is an eight-carbon saturated fatty acid found naturally in the milk of various mammals, and is a minor constituent of coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Caprylic acid possesses strong natural antimicrobial and antifungal activity, and inhibits growth of various microorganisms including Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus and various species of Streptococcus. Monolaurin is found in coconut oil and human breast milk. Monolaurin has strong antibacterial and other antifungal effects in vitro. The antimicrobial activity of monolaurin is amplified by EDTA and its salts. Potential indications for use of cadidacillin acid in humans include: gastrointestinal yeast /candida infection, periodontal disease, chronic diarrhea and leaky gut syndrome. Dosage Information: Candidacillin should be taken on an empty stomach three times a day 30 min before meals. Consume plenty of fluid. Candidacillin should be spaced out from supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron or

Top 5 Tips for Faster Weight Loss Ephedra scare. Fat burners including Ephedra or anything similar have been banned by the FDA and you should not take those. For more detail about this tip, read it here:

Tip 4: Cardiovascular Exercise A friend of mine is a cardio nut. She will honestly get on the Stairmaster for an hour at a time, on full intensity. However, it’s not doing much for her. She simply loves it, though. When we think about cardio for fat and weight loss, we need to remember what the goal is. The goal is to burn fat, not muscle. Too much at is bad. Muscle is good! When doing cardio, keeping at 70% of your heart rate is the goal. That will basically be cardio that will allow you to maintain conversation without losing your breath in the process. The simplest way to figure your target heart rate is by subtracting your age from 220, then take that number and multiply it by 70%. So the formula is 220 – x = y(.70). An example is mine: 220 – 41 =179 x .70 = 125. By staying at this heart rate, you will most likely burn fat without sacrificing muscle.

strontium salts by at least 1 hr. To amplify the efficacy of candidacillin, we recommend to take it in a combination with betain HCl. Due to the fact that candidacillin can interfere with calcium, magnesium and iron metabolism, we recommend to check serum levels of calcium, magnesium, ferritin and serum iron at least once a month. We also recommend taking candidacillin five dayson and 2 days off for 4 weeks with subsequent alternation with black walnut halls extract + Pau D’Arco + Artemisia/berberine blend. During candidacillin therapy, take multivatamins and minerals during candidacilin off days. For a complete list of supplements visit

Additionally, it is important not to do too much cardio. What happens when we do too much cardio is that our body will adjust to it and we will stop burning as much. It is better to do about a ½ hour twice a day, everyday you can. That might sound like a lot at first, but work your way up to it. And, make sure to take your thermogenic before your morning cardio, on an empty stomach. Cardio can be tedius, so here’s a little tip: watch tv. Pretty soon, that half an hour is over and you didn’t even realize it!

Tip 5: Lift Weights Remember to keep putting on muscle! Don’t worry ladies, you won’t look like a man when you work out with weights. Your body will only put on as much muscle as the protein you eat. Eating the amount of protein I suggested for women, 25 grams per meal, the result will be toned and feminine. The goal is to stay toned while you lose fat and weight. If however, you don’t work on burning fat too, the muscle will just build underneath the fat and cause you to look a little

fatter. What I tell people who approach me at the gym is that they already have the muscles. They are just hiding under the layer of fat that needs to go. Once that extra fat is gone through the tips above, the muscle will reveal itself. So it is important to stick with all the areas- nutrition, supplements, cardio and working out.

This probably doesn’t sound easy or quick but believe me, it is. After only one week you will see the difference. The key is to integrate every area I’ve talked about. When you only focus on only one area and ignore the rest, the process of weight and fat loss slows down. My motto is that if you’re going to sacrifice your time, food and energy, stack your deck and do it right. Rainbow Bridge of Light By Iah Ka Onge-Ja Ascension is a state of bliss by being in harmony and at one with all. The unified chakra is a vital key for ascension. To ascend you must literally expand your heart chakra to encompass your higher and seven main chakras until it becomes one unified chakra. This becomes one elongated column of light, embodies your higher self and builds a rainbow bridge to the Source. You then function with a constant frequency of love through the heart as a unified whole. Our seven main chakras are separate from our heart chakra and each other, thus bringing life challenges that create karma since your physical, emotional, and mental bodies react separately. For example, when you perceive anger or power being directed at you, you respond unconsciously with the first chakra (fear), or with the third chakra (power). So either you flee or stand still. A whole new alignment occurs with the unified chakra. Your response comes from your whole being, meaning that you are active rather than reactive, love-based rather than fear based, and transpersonal rather that personality-based.

The unity chakra, the base foundation of your rainbow bridge, will allow the personality to release all sense of separateness and fear of death. You can build your rainbow bridge of light higher to ascend back to the Source.

Rainbow Bridge Meditation

Get into a comfortable and relaxed position, deepening your breathing, and breathing Light into the heart chakra. Ask Spirit to blend with your unified field through the heart chakra. Your heart chakra glows brightly and becomes a sphere that opens and expands like a flower in geometrical shapes, colors and sound. You will see it grow just taller than you are. On each outbreath, visualize your heart chakra becoming larger, opening in all directions like a sphere. Expand it to include each succeeding pair of chakras as you breathe in and out: third and fifth, second and sixth, first and seventh, the omega (8 inches below spine which connects you to the planetary consciousness) and alpha (8 inches above your head which connects you to your fifth-dimensional Lightbody), your knees and eighth, your ankles and ninth, your feet and tenth.

Iah Ka Onge-Ja, Shaman

Ask that this energy stay with you in your heart chakra and guide you in all that you do. Ask that you, as Spirit, blend with the unified field to keep it aligned and to embody an ever greater proportion of ever higher frequency energy. Finally, when you feel complete, let the image fade and return your consciousness to your surroundings. A good affirmation is “I am in unity with Spirit.” You can build your rainbow bridge further and experience yourself as a truly multi-dimensional being by including the 11th chakra (your group soul level), the 12th chakra (the Christed level of your spirit self), the 13th chakra (the I AM Presence), and the 14th chakra (the Source). It is important to unify your chakras several times a day. With a little practice, you can say “unify” to yourself to instantly snap your chakras to one unified chakra.

Your unified chakra is now a sphere of golden light, about 20 to 50 feet in diameter, and forms the center of your unified field, which could be sevAttend the ASCENDED MASTERS PATH OF ASCENSION CLASSES, monthly eral miles in diameter. I heart health Do You Know Your “Advanced” Risk Factors for a Heart Attack or Stroke? By Dr. Wes Youngberg Not long ago, over 20 family members came together for Christmas at my in-laws Ohio country home where my wife grew up. It was a wonderful 10 days of making snowmen, having snow ball fights and sledding down the big hill behind the house. The best part was just being together and reminiscing all the good times we had spent together over the years. The day before we were all scheduled to leave, my mother-in-law developed clots in her legs and died the next day from a massive pulmonary embolism. We were all stunned; grateful that we had spent so much quality time together but shaking our heads that we had not seen this coming. Our time of celebration had ended in tragedy. Looking back, It’s easy to rationalize with statements like, “well she had 85 good years”, but the reality was that there were risk factors that we could of paid attention to that could of, if managed properly, given her more good years of life with the family she loved. Recently a friend lost his father suddenly because of blood clots didn’t respond quickly enough to standard therapy. Last week I took time from my busy clinical schedule to have a new comprehensive cardiovascular lab profile done on myself. New research shows that 60% of patients who have a heart attack of stroke actually have normal traditional risk factors. Their cholesterol, triglyceride

blood fats, LDL “bad cholesterol”, and HDL “good cholesterol” are all normal! In other words you could pass your next physical exam with your doctor and be told you are perfectly healthy, and later that same year have a massive stroke or heart attack. That is why I now recommend the Hunter Heart Advanced Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Profile. As valuable as the Lipid/Cholesterol profile is, it only picks up 50% of your actual risk for developing heart disease. Including the following tests in your health risk evaluation improve early identification of your actual cardiovascular risk to 90%. I strongly recommend taking the following tests: sd-LDL is the specific form of small dense LDL cholesterol that more easily promotes plaque; HDL2b is the most heart protective form of HDL cholesterol that actually removes plaque from your arteries; Lipoprotein (a) is a form of the “bad” LDL cholesterol that is ten times more likely to form plaque than regular LDL cholesterol; Homocysteine is a protein in the blood that increases the risk for atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke; low Vitamin D levels in the blood strongly influence risk of diabetes and heart disease; Apolipoprotine E is a gene mutation test that identifies advanced risk for both heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease; and Factor V Leiden is a gene mutation test that strongly influences your risk of developing clots in your blood stream. It’s also important to look at a Cardiovascular Inflammation Profile that includes two tests. The Cardiac CRP test measures the level of inflammation in the body. High inflammation significantly increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and many other diseases. The Cardiac CRP level is an excellent predictor of heart disease risk but can be elevated for other reasons as well. The Lp-PLA2 test, also known as the PLAC test indicates higher risk for unstable plaque and a greater tendency for the plaque to rupture. This test specifically shows if you have inflammation in the artery wall associated with plaque buildup representing the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Lastly I encourage everyone to test Iron and Ferritin– High levels of iron and the storage form of iron, called ferritin, represent an increased risk for heart disease and diabetes. Pay attention to your iron level. If elevated it can be a significant cause of diabetes and its complications! I encourage you to take advantage of these heart tests by talking with a health professional who will take the time to discuss each test with you and give you natural solutions to address each area of risk identified. I have personally had all these tests done on my self. For these tests I am very grateful, in that they gave me specific guidance of how I could further optimize my health and greatly lower my risk of cardiovascular and other diseases.

Be Healthy on the Inside, Too By Dr. Mary O’Dwyer As many of you know, I have been learning a lot about the role our emotions and spirituality play in our lives, and it is just mind-boggling! When I first started working in the health and fitness field I spent all of my time focusing on what my clients were eating and how they were exercising. As I have evolved, I realize that all the kale and marathons in the world can’t transform anyone’s health if you don’t take care of the soul and the heart as well. I was victim to going through the motions of life and not really paying attention to my heart (emotions) and soul (spirituality). I thought it was enough to eat right, exercise as much as I could and go to Mass on Sunday with the odd prayer in-between when things got rough. Emotions? Feelings? They were just those wild swings I reacted to as I saw fit in the moment - you know, yell at the kids, snap at your husband and push away anything too uncomfortable, because I didn’t have time to deal with it! Yet, feelings are real and need our attention. Talking about feelings can be a touchy thing. We all have them, and we don’t always give them the attention they deserve. It’s too easy to stuff the unpleasant ones and sometimes even push the good ones away, afraid of “jinxing” ourselves, afraid of being disappointed. That was my life, and I thought I was healthy! I looked healthy. I was trim and lean and by today’s standard I was doing great! But, I was empty inside. I just didn’t know it. I remember talking to a neighbor one morning and trying to describe

how I was feeling, and within a minute she had me diagnosed with a big spiritual void! That was a turning point, so thank you Amy:) That started me on a journey of really exploring what my beliefs were and how I wanted to relate to God. It also led me to understanding the role our heart plays in our lives and our spirituality. If we suppress all our emotions, and have closed hearts, no amount of Sunday worship will open us up to the wonders of God and his love for us. The most important thing with feelings is to allow yourself to feel them. How often have you heard the phrase “don’t be sad”, “don’t be mad”, don’t be afraid”? It’s second nature…. I hear myself saying it to my kids and clients and have to backtrack and say “cancel, cancel!” The only way feelings will go away, is if you allow them to be felt. Pushing them away doesn’t work. Suppressing feeling can lead to weight gain, building resentment and bitterness in your heart, and even medical problems. In my case, adult acne is a result of suppressing uncomfortable emotions I feel when I’m in conflict or out of alignment with people closest to me. I have an issue with my husband and I don’t say anything because I don’t want a conflict. Then, I see the breakouts! This is my reminder to say what I need to say, and the breakouts calm down within hours. It took me only 14/15 years to figure this out LOL! You deserve the best in life. A fully healthy person has a balanced mind, body, heart and soul. You can’t leave any aspect neglected without hurting yourself. Much love and have a great month! Dr. Mary O! Hypothyroidism is a common disorder that is frequently missed or misdiagnosed. This happens because screening tests are not extensive enough to pick up an actual problem with thyroid hormone production. Most patients have only had their TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) tested, but this is not precise enough to accurately diagnose a thyroid issue. Simply measuring TSH alone is not enough. The hormones T4 and T3 need to be tested in addition to accurately evaluate thyroid hormone production. T4 is the least active hormone when produced by the thyroid, and it is converted to the more metabolically active T3 throughout the body. TSH is supposed to correlate with thyroid hormone levels in the blood, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Nutrition, immune balance, hormone balance, stress, and other factors can contribute to a disturbance in hormone production or the conversion of T4 to T3. The most common supplemental thyroid medication is composed of merely T4. This may not be helpful to a patient who cannot convert correctly. In addition, many, though not all, primary care doctors will base their treatment on lab test values and not on a patient’s actual symptoms. Many patients who are on thyroid medication may be on an incorrect dosage because of limited or incomplete testing. Patients should also be advised not to self-diagnose or treat, as there are many commonly recommended treatments, such as iodine, which may not be appropriate in every situation, and certain thyroid disorders such as Grave’s disease, which can be very serious and need to be managed very carefully. The good news is that with a complete, comprehensive naturopathic evaluation, thyroid disorders and contributing factors can be adequately diagnosed and treated with great success. Prime Wellness in Solana Beach and Rancho Bernado solves thyroid issues with a multi-faceted approach. As thyroid dysfunction is her speciality, Dr. Kelly Austin is able to take in the whole person and put together the puzzle pieces that compose each and every case. Each individual receives a treatment protocol that is personalized to him or her. We don't see patients as just lab test values and symptoms -- we understand that patients are real people with real stories, goals, and needs. With appropriate testing, nutritional or herbal support, dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, or proper medication, we can help our patients suffering from thyroid disorders feel well and function optimally.
