Alex Konahin I was born in 1981 in the south of Russia – beautiful region between Black Sea and amazing Caucasus. When I was just 2 my family moved to former Soviet Republic of Latvia, now known as independent Republic of Latvia. I grew up on the shores of cold Baltic sea in the land of pine woods and amber. After Soviet Union collapsed and Latvia became independent, I didn’t get a citizenship and till now I’m not belonging to any country and in my passport it is written „Stateless”. I was drawing as long as I remember myself. However, I have tried a lot of things to do before I realized, that art is the only thing I’m ready to dedicate myself to. I have three unfinished bachelors – economist, lawyer and navigating officer. Thanks to the last one I have been sailing for several years and have seen the most wonderful places on Earth – such an inspiring experience! Keeping drawing all that time, at one moment I realized that I don’t have enough time for this and then I decided to quit my job. It was quite a consistent decision. So since 3 years I am trying to make my living out of my art. My dream for now is to open my own studio. http://www.facebook.com/amkonahins http://www.behance.net/konahin http://konahin.tumblr.com/

skount Skount (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, 1985), currently based in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). Inspired by the classical Spanish theatre of his hometown, Skount’s oneiric masked characters beckon the viewer from the urban environment into their mysterious and playful dreamscapes. The great playwrights of Skount’s youth formed a lasting impression, where he regards life as a wonderful play, in which everyone has a role. Driven by the fundamental desire to free his own mind, Skount’s creativity knows no bounds. With a background in street art, his artistic expression spans paint, paper, music and performance, to video art, sculpture, and installation. Yet Skount always comes back to masks. Humans the world over, have used masks since ancient times for sacred rituals, as ornamentation, and in performances and theatre. The mask disguises the identity of its wearer, and symbolizes the need to hide or repress a person’s desires, fears and concerns. Skount observes that everybody carries a mask, with it we conceal our identity and adopt a more socially acceptable image to get by day to day. But we can also choose the moments and people with whom we can reveal our true nature, and take off our masks. Skount’s irrepressible curiosity for other cultures has inspired him to travel and study different forms of creativity and traditions around the world. Skount has worked and exhibited throughout Spain, Europe, China, Israel, Mexico and the United States. “Dreams are not just a message (a coded message, at that), but also an aesthetic activity, a game of the imagination that has its own value. Dreams are proof that fantasies--emotional immersion in the visualization of events that have never and may never occur-- are one of the profoundest necessities for human life...The characters that come from my imagination are my own possibilities, those that never came to bear, or those still on my horizon...” – Skount

Hanna Hermans I would call my life ‘a piece of art’. I am an Amsterdam based illustrator and artist, who likes to make and do everything by myself, by hand.   Materials of all kind fascinate me; I like to collect, remake, re-use and re-assemble collected things and thoughts and  with great care, concentration, and eye for detail, I transform them into new objects, drawings, clothes or  accessories and put them back into the world. My   private life and work have totally faded into one. My home is my workplace, however also my space to hide and digest all the inspiration and images I collect from outside. At a certain point I really need to shut off from all the things around me. After that I can start working from my own ideas. http://hannahermans.tumblr.com

Jip Piet 000000011111 – What are you willing to do.

Jip Piet is a Duch artist. The work of Jip Piet demonstrates a critical view on the zeitgeist. The artist is known for his Schizophrenic commentary on power, greed and ignorance. Jip Piet: “Not sure if our wealth will keep us safe, is the toaster still working? Is my interest still running? Is my iphone still charged? Did i took the right pill. Huh? Look there is another famous guy on the black carpet. Strangling himself with his loose shoelaces. Peculiar old man has a red jacket, black glasses, aint no sunshine here, man”. 1* I’m holding it. I know your holding it, keep it going now. The rainbow looks like a gray styled donkey. Jackrabbit hole. Wear a cap, shave your hair to the millimeter. Keep on fighting it’s going to be alright. There is no reason, beyond reasons, and we finally know it. Get your fire your going to get burned. Now we all poisoned by our food, and the dancing kept on glowing in the improvised imaginary landscape. Got a really good water supply, it was good long time before more got sold convict of pornkolt kombucha, moviephone. Nice talking to you, seeing anything with another specialist for the wine milkshake. Through the windows of the house for through the little photovoltaic’s. So we can scope some of the photos. We won’t come to the mouth, don’t cha Know. Have a home in southfield. Rakhshani Nuestros in the village of Roseville. Almost out of shoes to Dallas knickers. I will follow you to the mall. The thing of seeing the dumb special Kabanov. I hang out with Cindy major due diligence for rules, for the sofa. Take a slowing in scope to live on those sea’s. Over the last beautiful Lady Gaga performance and actually improves you to shoot tomorrow. 1* While it may seem that some of the sentence structures in this text read as grammatically incorrect, they are written for a purpose, as art and grammar do not necessarily share the same structure.

Merijn Kavelaars The work of Merijn Kavelaars (1985) is a spontaneous outburst of emotion which is translated into an expressionistic and frequently figurative play of colours. He has been working as an artist since 2009 and is self taught. Paintings by this young artist are energetic and immediately engaging, fuelled by what he describes as a passion that he hopes to pursue for the rest of his life. Irreverent and affectionate action painter Kavelaars is an action painter, a method whereby the artist lays canvas on the ground and uses strong, rhythmic mark-making and block colour filling to create the painting. He makes use of mixed techniques and disciplines, and different kinds of paint. His concepts, such as “The Dirty Old Men” and “The Beak Family”, are based on an optimistic reflection of society. Kavelaars’ paintings are simultaneously naive and suggestive of a sharp awareness of the darker side of life, characteristic of his irreverent yet affectionate attitude to it. Rapidly growing reputation Originally from the small town of Valkenswaard (near Eindhoven) Merijn Kavelaars felt driven to relocate to Amsterdam even when he had no idea what he would do there. His relatively recent discovery of his talent for painting found a receptive audience in the cultural capital and his reputation and commercial success are growing rapidly. Kavelaars currently has a work and exhibition space at the Herengracht in the centre of Amsterdam, and shows solo and collaborative exhibitions at other venues around the city. Kavelaars exhibits his work in Paris, Copenhagen and right now in Shanghai. For more information check www.kavelaars.com www.facebook.com/MerijnKavelaarsArt

Astrid Mulder “Nevermind, keep smiling, pretend you are strong. But you’re a little kid, small in an enormous world. If you jump off the earth, you fly away from the people you love. Breathe deeply, bite your lip, you will land on earth again.” She feels weak, but keeps smiling, so they do not ask questions. She is a child, a fairy, a superhero, a pirate! She wants a pony... Astrid Mulder (1988) or “As het kunstenaresje” currently lives in Groningen. During and after her bachelor studies in fine art at Minerva and master in painting at Frank Mohr Institute she has been working on a series about her adventures in life. She shows autobiographic stories in authentic looking drawings. The drawings are drawn on old yellowed paper from second hand shops, often pages from books or old sketch paper. Working with fineliners, stamps, markers, pigment, typex and plenty of water. Each work includes it’s own story or memories. The characters in her drawings are often animals, have a connection with animals or are anthropomorphic. But her drawings are not idyllic scenes, they are obscure scenes about abandoned houses, squatters, sex, monsters, pirates, heartbreak, dead animals and other nightmares. They are modern moralistic fairytales. These drawings are images of Astrid’s own reality, such as stories from a diary. The images come from her own experiences. She experiences the feeling of being the child in the big world. This comes with fears but also bring freedom too display herself as a pirate, robber or animal. Her philosophy is that something you believe in, exists. In your heart things are a living reality and here you have no trouble to place that outside yourself in any landscape or any environment. You see what you want to see. Astrid’s work is a tribute to the imagination, storytelling and making art. http://as88.wordpress.com
