Arranging our ILM Level 3 Certificate through TSW Training couldn’t have been easier as they tailored the training to accommodate our chosen modules and were flexible in terms of delivery locations and dates. The biggest factor for us was that TSW provide an e-learning system which educates and tests understanding; it was helpful to receive analysis from this system (modules completed and test scores) as we could easily monitor employees’ progress and offer extra support where required. 10/10! Your Industry Our Experience ManufactUring & AUTOMOTIVE

VOLUNTARY & Third sector

ManufactUring & AUTOMOTIVE The Automotive & Manufacturing Sectors In recent years the automotive and manufacturing industries in the UK have undergone major change and faced significant market turbulence. With many businesses relocating overseas it has brought about a revolution in the way UK businesses must run in order to compete effectively in the global marketplace.

Automotive Sector The Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) became the licensed Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the retail automotive sector in September 2007. Since then research across the automotive sector via the Sector Skills Agreement has identified a number of key issues in the industry, namely; > Lack of formal management and leadership skills; to date only 14% of managers in the sector hold a Level 4 qualification and there is agreement that managers need to develop their skills in order to make their businesses more profitable > Lack of customer service skills; The IMI have also reported that the level of customer service skills in the industry is well below what is needed by the sector > Continuing professional development; Career planning, support and CPD need to be built into the framework of an organisation to enhance performance management > Basic Skills levels; It was identified that the level of basic skills amongst industry workers is in need of attention if the industry is to continue to improve. Investment in training will be a major contributor in relieving the difficulties that the automotive industry is experiencing. At TSW we are confident that our extensive range of accredited and nonaccredited training programmes can support organisations in the automotive sector to achieve their organisational objectives.

Manufacturing & Engineering Sectors Research from the Sector Skills Council SEMTA identifies that with the changes affecting the manufacturing and engineering sectors in the UK there is a need for organisations to forecast more effectively in order to remain competitive. The research identified by SEMTA and the Sector Skills Agreement shows that there is a clear need for organisations to focus resources on developing people currently employed in the sectors through up-skilling and progression to higher skill levels. Further research conducted by the Sector Strategy Groups has also identified key priority areas for employers to focus on:

ManufactUring & AUTOMOTIVE > Management and Leadership - The sector needs worldclass management skills to be able to develop business in an international context. Analysis of the UK workforce has exposed a significant skills deficit in respect of Management and Leadership capabilities. Employers have also identified leadership development among intermediate level occupations as being essential in implementing policy throughout the business. > Productivity and Competitiveness - Occupational competence is necessary, but not currently sufficient to compete globally. Skills development and training in ‘Lean’, ‘Six Sigma’, business improvement, new product and process development, supply chain management and project management are essential. > Technical Workforce Development - To support high value added investment, the sectors need to upskill across the board; from skilled operators at level 2, craft and technician at level 3 and technician at level 4. As with other sectors, they need multidisciplined craftspeople, well grounded in the fundamentals and able to develop via training for new technologies and business processes.

Ensinger Ltd have been working closely with TSW for a number of years. TSW continue to offer a number of excellent training courses for our industry. TSW staff are always helpful and professional. I trust the staff I send on their courses will benefit fully from what they learn and this will have a positive impact on our business. Hannah Davies Ensinger Ltd

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Construction Industry The construction industry has recently faced turbulent times and cannot escape the ongoing challenges and difficulties it will face in the coming years. Some of the challenges will be new while others are long standing issues. However, despite the lack lustre business forecasts for the sector, there is light at the end of the proverbial tunnel for UK construction businesses.

Grow Your Business Support for skills and professional development is on hand for UK construction businesses as part of a matrix of measures put in place by the UK government to ensure the construction industry grows during these challenging times. Judy Lowe, Chairman, of Construction Skills Network further commented on the UK construction market in the CSN (2011-2015 Blueprint Report) stating; “Equipping the UK with a well trained, productive construction workforce has always been central to the sector’s growth and success. But it is now essential if our businesses are to succeed and grow, and it’s important to replace the skills lost to the industry during this recession. For that to happen we need to have a very clear understanding of the UK skills picture, including future needs, so that we can effectively plan and invest.” The clear message for the construction industry is that despite market volatility the focus for businesses at this time should be on driving up their performance standards and developing a skilled workforce. Why? Because, as with all previous downturns, there will be an upturn, but will your organisation be ready to respond to the needs of that evolving market?

Help Is On Hand Hopefully, the answer to the above question is ‘Yes!’ We understand that right now your budget might be under scrutiny or review. However, it’s vital for you to maintain the view that the training and development of your workforce is a key investment for growth. We would welcome the opportunity to work with you and ensure you get the best solutions to meet your budget. At TSW we really understand the needs of organisations in the construction industry and have supported many of them, large and small, with a plethora of professional qualifications that have not only raised skills in people and teams but had a massive impact on bottom line profits and performance. We offer first-class training facilities for both trades and management and can work with your workforce on or offsite. We have a team of highly qualified trainers and instructional staff with an excellent in-depth understanding of the industry. This means that the training you receive is to the highest standard. Our promise to you is to deliver a workforce that is skilled, proficient and experienced in the practical aspects required of their role.

VOLUNTARY & Third sector Voluntary & Third Sector The UK voluntary and third sector is rapidly growing, with a reported 170,905 registered charities and voluntary organisations, according to the Feb 2009 Almanac published by NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations). The current economic climate has brought about reform and change in these growing sectors. On 20th October 2010, the UK government announced the results of its long awaited Spending Review and revealed in detail the government’s austerity measures to be rolled out over the next 5 years. Unsurprisingly the government’s main agenda is to cut spending and reduce the budget of each government department. The review also outlined measures relating directly to the voluntary and community sectors which included the announcement of a new £100 million transitional fund, and additional resources to implement the Big Society agenda. So with change and cuts impacting the blue print of the voluntary, charitable and third sectors, organisations must adapt to remain sustainable. One way to ensure sustainability is to engage and develop your workforce to meet the needs of government plans and reform. According to the NCVO there are some key focus areas for voluntary and charitable organisations despite government spending cuts; these are centred around the need for organisations to invest in workforce development and the need to manage the process of restructuring and redundancy.

Support for the Voluntary & Third Sector TSW has an extensive understanding of the needs of both sectors and has worked with groups, partnerships and organisations to improve productivity, performance and cost reduction. Despite austerity and budget cuts, help is on hand for organisations wanting to enhance the skills and knowledge of their workforce through training and development solutions. TSW currently holds an LMD (Leadership and Management Development) contract with the Welsh Government to deliver a host of funded solutions, alongside a commercial portfolio of training solutions, accredited and nonaccredited.

Housing Associations The UK housing association market is often described as the third sector and has also faced the realities of government austerity measures and legislation. To date the UK market is currently represented by four industry bodies. However in Wales, the regulation and funding of housing associations is carried out by the Welsh Government with Community Housing Cymru as the registered charity representing over 70 not-for-profit housing associations and community mutuals in Wales. The focus for Welsh Housing associations is currently on hitting targets laid out in the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS), which states that councils, housing associations and community mutuals must improve the condition of the country’s 221,248 housing stock by 2012. This has placed a growing need on housing associations to increase skills in the workforce for those managing estates, facilities and tradesmen through to project management and leadership.

Help For Housing Associations TSW has over 40 years of experience supporting voluntary and charitable organisations in Wales and the UK. We appreciate that it’s a challenging time for housing associations as budgets are tight. However, we are confident that we can help your organisation develop a sustainable way forward. We offer a cross section of courses to cater to

Education & Training Education & Training The landscape of Education & Training provision in the UK has significantly changed in the past decade, holding a strong focus on complying with legislation and raising professional development standards as key priority areas for industry providers.

UK Reform To date, several industry reforms have already been introduced in England and Wales. Some changes have seen the introduction of mandatory benchmarks for providers to meet and other changes have brought about the need for providers to start focusing on ‘best practice’ and sector leading standards.

What does it mean for providers and professionals in England? In England the Further Education Teachers’ Qualification Regulations 2007 are now in place and compliance is mandatory for FE Institutions in England to comply with. With this in mind it is essential for professionals in the sector to achieve the relevant qualifications in line with the 2007 regulations. Dependant on their start date, experience and previous qualifications, all teaching, training and tutoring staff need to achieve:

> PTLLS within 1 year of starting in their role or 1 year of September 2007 > CTLLS or DTLLS within 5 years of September 2007 or 5 years of starting their role (with enough time to achieve professional status)

Reform & Best Practice in Wales A number of teaching and training qualifications hold credibility in Wales but none are mandatory at the time of printing. In Wales the focus for FE & Vocational providers is to raise the level of professional standards by investing in staff training and continuous professional development. Particular emphasis is being placed on raising skill levels for those involved in the delivery and management of quality and assessment.

Working With You At TSW Training we have almost 50 years experience working with providers in the teaching, training and lifelong learning sectors. Our aim has always been to support individuals and teams in these industries by offering the latest industry approved accredited qualifications and best practice training solutions. As a training provider ourselves we fully understand your business, the associated pressures and the needs of your staff. We work with providers across the UK in a collaborative context to help enhance the levels of professional development and quality, and are continually updating our knowledge on industry best practice and the latest skills development initiatives. We would like to be able to bring this knowledge to your organisation and work with you to make the industry the best it can be.

> Further Education institutions > Work Based Learning providers > Lifelong Learning providers > Community Learning Development initiatives and providers > Work Programme contract holders What We Deliver TSW delivers the following industry recognised and approved courses and qualifications: CIEH Level 3 Award in Training Skills and Practice – This is an excellent qualification if you plan on becoming a trainer. Professional Services Professional Services Why Professional & Business Services Matter The professional and business services sector is the largest industry sector in the UK, accounting for almost 20% of national output and 14% of UK exports. To date, organisations in the sector have developed the skills and capabilities that enable them to supply superior services, making them more competitive and collectively recognised as a global leader in the industry. The level of output and employment created in the services sector means that it is a key sector in driving economic recovery, growth and stability. Through their intimate links with the rest of the economy, business services are also a leader in good practice, innovation and change management, which in turn promotes the development of new business models and increases overall business competitiveness. However, the recent financial crisis, the rapid growth of emerging economies, developments in technology and societal concerns about climate change and sustainability mean that, to continue as a global leader, UK service organisations must continue to develop their skills and capability or risk being surpassed by competitors from the emerging economies of India and China, that have developed skills and capabilities to match those in the UK.

Your Future Growth & Success If Professional & Businesses Service providers are to thrive in the volatile markets and continue to compete in the global economy, they need to invest in developing skills to support future growth. This includes investment in management and technical skills that will contribute to high performance and business success. Even as service providers continue to embed technology into their provision and delivery, there is still a growing need for the customer facing “soft skills and project management skills required to manage integrated service offerings. The need for investment in leadership, management, customer service and marketing skills is required more than ever in order to respond to the challenge of global competition.

How TSW Can Help Your Organisation TSW has developed a range of professional development solutions for the Professional Services industries. We can provide your organisation with a range of accredited and non-accredited solutions to increase the skills and service levels of your organisation.

HR & LEGAL HR & Legal TSW Training & Hugh James have joined forces to form an innovative partnership offering a wide range of cross-industry HR & Legal Workshops. Hugh James is one of the top 100 law firms in the UK and continues to prosper as the largest independent law firm in Wales. It delivers a comprehensive range of commercial and private client services across the UK from offices in Cardiff and London. The partnership between TSW and Hugh James will involve the two organisations working together to provide and facilitate a range of local training courses on employment law. The training on offer provides businesses with in-depth knowledge and guidance on a wide range of employment and HR topics from managing sickness and absence, to performance management, and how to deal with disciplinary and grievance matters. The department led by Helen Iles, Head of Training at Hugh James, is now being recognised as one of the leading providers in employment law training for local businesses, with many expressing their confidence in Hugh James’ ability, skills and experience. Testament to this quality is that the Hugh James Training Department was recently shortlisted for a Law Society Excellence Award in 2011 for Learning and Development. Helen Iles, Head of Training at Hugh James, comments on the partnership with TSW: “We have been working very hard to develop our training department, and partnerships, such as the recent one with TSW Training allows us to share our knowledge and offer the best possible advice and guidance to businesses” “Whether you have been employing staff for years, or are new to people management, the constantly changing legislative and case law environment on employment law can throw up a variety of challenges. We are staying ahead of the game and meeting the needs of businesses by providing this up-to-theminute training” TSW Training and Hugh James are ready to help your organisation acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to remain compliant and ahead of your competitors.

Your Future Depends On Your Knowledge Many organisations find employment law complex and, at times, frustrating but nowadays it is not a question of ‘if an issue arises,’ but ‘when will you face an issue’ relating to HR & Employment Law. In 2012 changes to employment law and HR legislation will affect the way businesses and organisations function, but are you ready to tackle these changes head on?

HR & LEGAL Some of these key issues will include:

> Abolition of the default retirement age/age discrimination > Employment tribunal reform > Employment law reform > TUPE transfer issues > Human rights and employment law matters Your organisation could choose to manage your HR & Legal issues on a prescription basis and respond to issues as they happen. Or you could choose to tackle these issues by acquiring the necessary knowledge to not only prevent but manage these matters responsibly and effectively, thus avoiding unnecessary hassles and costs. Support & Funding REACT II FUNDiNG Are you a Welsh based employer looking to make staff redundant OR recruit an individual(s) that have formerly been made redundant? If the answer is YES to both questions then you may be eligible for support under the REACT II Scheme. The Redundancy Action Scheme II (ReAct II) is a programme of funding for training provided by the Welsh Government for people living in Wales who are facing redundancy. The scheme can also help Employers who are downsizing their business or are recruiting staff.

The bespoke Team Leader Programme delivered by TSW Training gave our staff an excellent opportunity to demonstrate strong team work. Since completing the course they have all seen a substantial difference in the way they interact and work together, which enabled them to help each other when facing an operational or staff issue. From start to finish TSW Training has been extremely helpful, accommodating all of our needs! Frances Burgess Corporate Service Manager Age Concern Morgannwg

Get two packages for taking on someone who has been made redundant: > Employer Recruitment Support funds employers who recruit individuals made redundant in the past six months. The award offers up to £3,000 paid in four instalments as a contribution towards wage costs. > Employer Training Support is a separate discretionary fund of up to £1,000 that an employer can put towards the cost of the new recruit’s job-related training. Employers can choose whether to apply for Recruitment Support alone or Recruitment and Training Support. Employer Training Support can only be used in conjunction with Employer Recruitment Support.

Who qualifies for the funding? Employer Recruitment and Training Support is available to your business if the individual you wish to recruit is either under formal notice of redundancy or has become unemployed in the last six months as a result of redundancy. The individual must have been a resident in Wales at the time they first became eligible for ReAct II.

Individuals working 25 hours per week or more will attract a full wage subsidy whilst those employed between 16 and 24 hours per week will receive a wage subsidy equal to 50% of the full time rate. No wage subsidy is payable for employees who work less than 16 hours per week. Employer Recruitment and Training Support is available if: > Your business is expanding and the post is new; or, > You seek a justifiable replacement for a vacant post; and, > Your business does not have a director in common with the company that made redundant the person you want to recruit; > The job is at least 16 hours per week; > The job is expected to last for at least 12 months; > The job is not being supported by any other public or European Fund; and > Your business has not reached the ‘de minimis’ threshold for State Aid rules.

The TSW course was excellent, the tutor Janine provided me with a great deal of feedback and positive comments. The group I was part of was very informative and I was pleased to be with such experienced trainers who were given an opportunity to contribute and demonstrate their skills. Julian Mc Ardle ReAct Candidate

Downsizing? If you are looking to make member(s) of staff redundant then you can pave the way for their future by sign posting them to the REACT scheme and they can take advantage of the scheme that caters for the needs of individuals that have been made redundant.

ReAct II for Individuals Have you recently been made redundant ? If the answer is YES then you may be eligible for support under the REACT Scheme.

Who is eligible? Support under the ReAct II scheme is available for individuals who: > have become unemployed in the last six months as a result of redundancy, are currently unemployed, and who have not been in continuous employment for 6 weeks or more since being made redundant; or > are currently under notice of redundancy; and > have not undertaken any publicly funded training since being made redundant, including the work-based learning suite of programmes.

What is available? There are 3 elements to ReAct II: > Recruitment & Training Support > Discretionary Award - Vocational Training > Discretionary Award - Extra Support. Support is available for eligible applicants to increase their skills and remove barriers to learning, or returning to work.
