Vision: Developing Christian leaders to transform communities

Commemorating Our 7th Year Anniversary by Pastor Ade Omotunde

P

astor Fola and I would like to welcome you all to the first magazine of New Covenant Church - Milton Keynes titled Home of Inspiration. We congratulate the team and other individuals that made this publication a success.

We are now seven years of age. I see this as a time to reflect and take stock of all we have accomplished to date and to consider the things yet to be done. Our vision is to 'develop Christian leaders to transform communities'. Considering the people that have passed through our local branch and unto higher and greater things, along with those of us still building, we are a work in progress.

A home is a place where members of a family are groomed, cared for and loved. It is also a place where initial inspiration is given for us to take life by the horn and make a success of it. So I can safely say, we have a home. Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to act or feel something, this is one source that can trigger the process of transformation. Therefore I can say we are being transformed by the word of God we hear and teach at our home of inspiration. Over the last seven years I have seen people's lives transformed, miracles performed and our children and families grow in different ways. Some have gone back to college to gain new knowledge, change careers, start businesses and graduate from universities in the UK. We can't ignore God's blessings of biological growth, new babies and weddings. A good number of interesting and vibrant people have also joined us over the years. What a wonderful home we have!

We have learnt to adapt to change and cope in times of difficulty. Within the seven years, yes, we lost a dear member of our family. May her soul rest in peace, late sister Winnie Himoonde. Though painful, we learnt how to be strong in Christ despite our loss. This is what a strong and close family does. We are small but mighty, small but great. Love has grown bigger than our adversity. Today, at seven we stand on the solid rock of Christ our Lord and saviour. We stand tall and strong. In this, we give all glory to God. Plotting our road map for the last seven years has been with the help of the Holy Spirit, and it goes without saying that all our leaders and members have been pivotal in this journey of love. Your financial and moral support, as well as your prayers and time have been of great help to the successful growth, care and love of our wonderful Home of Inspiration. Thank you all so much and may the Lord our God continue to bless you all. A big thank you to the leadership team of Edmonton conference.

Looking ahead

In the year 2013 and beyond, it is obvious that there is a lot of progress to be made. Change is apparent everywhere we go, social norms are rapidly changing. Technology has made these changes faster and easier to accomplish. People are connecting in different ways like never before. Twitter, Facebook, email, mobile devices, other social networks and the Internet are making this all possible. As a result we now live in an age of information overload.Communities that were once isolated can be reached through the advancement in technologies. Our world in this sense is getting smaller and people's preference of communication, and relationship building is changing. As a result, institutions are competing for peoples attention, in an age that the average attention span of an individual is getting shorter. Therefore it is time to re-visit how we reach people out there with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Going forward we want to open up new channels and methods of communication. A different level of involvement in social action. This is to stay relevant with our message of the gospel. Using the tools we have, as well as technology to bridge the gap in growing a church without walls. Today and tomorrow's Church is a Church that can reach out beyond its local community and impact the world by addressing two areas of the human life - social and spiritual needs. Nurturing our communities with spiritual food for the soul and guiding the physical man spiritually. Demonstrating the power and benefits of belonging to a superior Kingdom - the Kingdom of God. I pray that our new direction and strategies will empower every member of New Covenant Church - Milton Keynes for purpose in our Home of Inspiration. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year. God bless you all.

biblical principles. This also includes career development and positive role modelling. We strategically implement these objectives by encouraging a variety of regular meetings to improve relationship building with members and family. These meetings are either social, spiritual or both. We currently have twenty-three members locally, however, about six hundred nationally within the United Kingdom. Some members have active roles in our local Church, in building our Home of Inspiration.

I would like to seize this opportunity to thank all our executives and members for their ongoing advise, encouragement and support.God bless you all. Happy seventh year anniversary. If you have any questions or interested in joining CMI, please do not hesitate to contact any of our local executives for information. These are: Vice President Mr. Niyi Onikan, Secretary Pastor Ignatius Ilaya and Public Relation Officer Mr. Adewale Adekola.

Looking forward to the year 2013 and beyond, CMI Milton Keynes aims to organise marriage seminars, career workshops along with a few other relevant activities.

Easy Health Tips by Wura Ilaya “Use it or lose it”! Have you ever heard this expression? its so true. If you don't use your body, you will surely lose it. Your muscles will become flabby and weak. Your joints will be stiff and easily injured. Inactivity is a health risk, just as obesity. Many rewards can be realised through physical activities, let me share some with you: 1. It helps prevents diseases - the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and other diseases are reduced. It helps delay the ageing process and improves your appearance.

It is recommended that everyone participate in some form of exercise, 30 minutes, 5 days a week. Why not introduce the following activities into your day: • • • • • •

Walk to the shops Run up and down the stairs (safely) Join a weekly aerobic class/gym. Use the stairs rather than the lift Get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way Park your car further away from the shop entrance and walk

Remember, “Every Little Bit Helps!”

2. Tones and strengthens - your posture can be improved and your muscles can become mush more firm and toned. 3. Improves stamina – fatigue and tiredness are managed. Physical exercise releases energy. 4. Controls weight - you burn calories when you exercise. 5. Improves quality of life - exercise reduces stress, improves sleep patterns and lifts up moods. You will look and feel younger throughout your entire life.

Our Roots

by Pastor Fola Omotunde

O

n the 18th December 2005, over 350 saints gathered at the Open University Milton Keynes Auditorium for the launch service. Many of our sisters and brothers came down from our mother church in Edmonton,London; it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon that marked a new beginning.

Ministry work commenced, the first Sunday service was free of the euphoria and crowd. The big auditorium had in it the first team of workers - Usher (Late Winnie), choir (Natalie, Fola, Dupe and Bose), Pastor Ade and 4 seated members. In 6 months, to the glory of God, we witnessed a 30% growth and very quickly we experienced the challenge of logistics – loading speakers and wires into salon cars etc. We bought our first church busin 2006. In our first year, the following families played invaluable roles in the growth of the church - Late Winnie Himoonde, Julie Bamgbose, Dupe Akintunde, Iyabo Obatoyinbo, Bose Oderinde, Fred Odogwacho, Jeffrey and Blessing Obi-Allison, Doyin Ogunremi, Muyiwa and Folake Aderoju. From 2005 – 2007 we held our church services at the Open University. In 2008, the church moved to Novo-

tel Milton Keynes, this was home for 3 years. At Novotel, our church life was established. Members included families coming in from Europe – Italy, Germany, Belgium and France. We were unique and dynamic as a family. Communion and child dedication services were held every first Sunday of each month; we also had our Celebration services every last Sunday of the month. These Sundays were well attended with families coming along to worship in an atmosphere of high praise and intense worship. The following ministers form part of our history; over the years they have honoured our invites and impacted our lives through God’s word: Rev. (Dr.) & Rev. (Mrs) Paul Jinadu, Late Rev. Timothy Kolade, Rev. (Mrs) Funmi Kolade, Rev. & Rev (Mrs) Femi Omisade, Rev. Tayo Arowojolu, Rev. & Rev (Mrs) Ayo Ajilore, Pastor Yele Afolabi (RCCG), Pastor Ayo Daniel, Pastor Pedro Okoro, Rev (Mrs) Valerie Nezianya, David Okorodudu, Rev. Gbawo Sehindemi and Rev (Mrs) Toyin Adewunmi, In 2010, the church meeting place was moved to a more affordable premise, OUR HOME OF INSPIRATION laid another foundation at Hazeley Academy. We have many reasons to be grateful. In 7 years, we have ridden the full cycle of life and the rollercoaster of ministry.

hat is Sunday school all about? Sunday school is a major department in a local church. This is where children study the word of God and have fun. At Sunday school, a child’s view the world is transformed. Children make new friends when they join. Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (NIV) Our aspiration is to help all the children grow and walk with the Lord Jesus. Each class is designed to specifically meet these needs. All our teachers are active and CRB checked. We teach our children songs, arts, craft and and drama. They present their learning to the adult church, every last Sunday of the month. The idea is to build their self confidence not only in the church but also in the society. Glory be to God we are now 7 years old. Over the last 7 years, we have taken our children out to have fun during summer holidays

(Gulliver’s land, Drayton Manor, Wickstead park to mention a few). We have all had a wonderful time. Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed” (NLT)

It has been a truly amazing experience coming into God’s Kingdom; I have learnt so much, by hearing and reading the Word over the past 5 years. We are taught through the Bible Studies and sermons to live a life that is pleasing to God. In NCC MK inspired Pastors are inspiring us. Parenting Corner

ning my online business Great Kid (www. greatkid.co.uk) part-time. This is to do with children's clothing. The bible says the gift of a man will make way for him. My God given gifts used to render a service in Church has also provided other breakthroughs for me. My gift is to impact the life's of children with love and pass the knowledge of God's word to build them for a greater future. At New Covenant Church - Milton Keynes my confidence has been built up, while also gaining focus and stability in every area of my life through the grace of God. This has also led me into writing my own book on raising Godly children and the joy of parenting. The book is practical and focused on key life issues concerning children. Raising a son myself, I am a living testimony. Praise God! **Parenting**

I

t is my honour to welcome our Church into a year of perfection (7years).

Just before I start my humble advise on parenting, I would like to give a testimony about how New Covenant Church - Milton Keynes has impacted my life and inspired me to take action. **Testimony** I joined the Church in the early part of 2006 when my child was only 2 years of age, and to the glory of the Lord he is now 8 plus. He is growing every day in the wisdom of our Lord. In 2007, I joined the children's department. After joining, doors of opportunities opened for me. I got a job in the children's sector outside of the church.I have gained and still gaining qualifications in this field. I am currently studying toward a degree in children's early years. I have also completed a child minding certificate and a few other relevant courses in the children's sector. I completed my training the trainers course (PTTLS) this year. This gives me a great sense of achievement. At work I am doing alright while also run6

Considering all I have said in this article, It would not be complete without me including some tasters concerning parenting. Everywhere we search, it is certain we will notice that there are no perfect parents or should I say, no perfect person. Parenting is all about learning by observation, listening, and providing tender, love and care. So every parent goes through the process of change as they see their children grow. The needs of our children are forever changing just as cultures, technology and the world in general is much more integrated and forever changing. In this short piece of mine, I would like to highlight five key points to bear in mind in order to improve parenting skills. Remember children aspire to become what their parents are. **What trait does your child see in you?** Who you are, and what you do as a parent matters more than what you say. Your child is watching you more than you think or know. Here we go! my 5 humble traits of a good parent:

1. **Praise:** giving praise to your children is very important for their physical and emotional growth. It is not only when children do things perfectly that you praise them, still praise to encourage them to do better where their effort is less, giving praise also makes them learn to appreciate others around them, now and in future. 2. **Patience** as a parent, it is good to always exercise patience in all you do, learning calmness. Children will always try your patience. 1 Corinthians 13:4. States that Love is patient and kind. 3. **Be more affirming** as parents, you need to have self respect and a high self esteem, your children are watching you, they want to be like you. A friend of mine has a 7 year old girl, one day the girl said mummy, I want to be like you, when I grow up. The mother who did not like the life style she was living started rejecting it for her girl. We can boost our self esteem, confidence and take steps to improve our life's for a better future for ourselves and our children. 4. **Attentive parenting** how attentive are you to your children. Can you hear them even when they are not talking? As parents, lets make it a good practice to observe both physical and emotional sides of our children. 5. **Visionary parents** as a parent, I often ask myself this question, where do I see my child in the next 20 years? (Strong in confidence, kind, caring and secure). Do you call your children by the name of the profession they desire? For example, I sometimes call my son Dr x. In conclusion, as parents we want our children to be emotionally secure, persistent in what they do, thoughtful and respectfull of their peers and adults. Finally, deeply grounded in the words of God I hope we are richly blessed as we raise great kids and birth a greater future. Stay connected.

very individual is different,we all have our hopes, dreams and goals. We all choose what we want to inspire us in our everyday lives. This church has brought out my passion to go on in life, it has brought me up when I'm feeling down. Love is the strongest thing we all share.

In our church we can be confident and know that nobody is going to bring us down, we are reassured when our Revs and Pastors are talking to us. Regardless of your age, good advice, undiluted truth, is the quickest thing you obtain when you asked for it from the leadership of the church. As youths we are encouraged to be good in our social lives and attain more in our education.

Every service boosts up our faith to go higher in all we do. Its no surprise at all, that's what family does.

Living A Fantatic Life

by Yvonne Owuor

Life is full of ups and downs, if we are not careful, life could easily become a routine. Hence, we miss out on the beautiful and fantastic opportunities around us. As God's children we can cultivate a lifestyles that upholds a healthy, balanced sound mind and body as purpose by God. The bible reminds us of the importance of living a happy healthy life. The bible states in the book of proverbs (bible verse) that a happy heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit destroys the bones. The BEST MARRIAGE by Pastor Ignatius Ilaya

I

stood there watching, waiting expectant but prepared. The surreal atmosphere was magnetic and alive with singing. Suddenly, I was startled from my reverie by the immaculate beauty that approached me. The beam of the summer sun from the entrance door reflected on her shinny, silvery, spotless flowing white gown. The veil she had on could not conceal her divinely crafted face. Her smile glittered

Since joining the family of God at New Covenant Church - Milton Keynes, I have been inspired to nurture my soul as much as my physical body. I have realised that happiness can be attained by connecting with how I feel at that moment. With this fresh awareness, I can increase my energy by taking small steps daily, making a path towards feeling better. Consciously remaining still for 5-10 minutes daily creates a calmness, which boosts my entire day. Therefore I encourage you to take this time everyday to connect with your spirit and pray. Try connecting how you feel after exercise as an alternative of how you felt prior to it, as this will help you feel amazing. To revitalise your mind, body and spirit have a good night’s sleep. This will allow you to absolutely let go of your day and feel rejuveand fired up the atmosphere as she took her strides slowly through the watching crowd. The symphony of the entrance song compliments the harmony of aura that swell around her. What a beautiful bride, I thought, my heart swelling up with love as her father handed her over to me at the altar. A lot of planning, preparation and money goes towards having a perfect wedding day. Both bride and groom prepare for the very special occasion. The same applies to the groom “Jesus” and his bride “the church”.

nated to begin another day. Eating and drinking fresh and natural foods will give you the balance and energy needed to feel your best. Spending time in an environment that makes you feel good is also important. Remember that living your dream each day will bring you so much happiness. Learn something new every day and surround yourself with positive people, as this will also improve your wellbeing. By re-introducing all these ideas into your life, your body gets the drive and balance it needs to start feeling fantastic again. By achieving good health and a happy lifestyle, your relationship with our Lord grows more.

Jesus is prepared and ready, expecting his bride to do the same. The church (you and I) must get ready for the BEST MARRIAGE…. Revelation 19:8-9 “the Lamb has come and His wife has made herself ready”. How are you preparing? Are your linen, heart, character, relationships, conversations, thoughts and so on, being made clean in preparation for the Lamb? It’s going to be the best marriage of all times. 7

years ago a seed was sown. Till this day our seed forever grows, experiencing the storms of winter and the blaze of summer. Yet we stand strong, anchored in by our roots, uplifted by our trunk. We’ve shared both good and interesting times, we’ve even had the driest of moments, yet in due season rain still falls. We don’t judge each day by the harvest we reap but by the seeds that we sow. 7 years ago a seed was sown.... 7 years on our tree is still standing.

Our Covenant Women

Who Are We?

Mrs. Chistie Amalu

C

ovenant Women(CW) Milton Keynes is a group of Christian women who have been called by God to propagate the good news of salvation. Our anchor verse is taken from the book of Mark 16 verses 15 -18. “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Alleluia! What a great commission? We are a branch of Covenant Women of New Covenant Church world wide. Our vision was birth by the wife of our general overseer Mummy Kate Jinadu whom God has used to touch a lot of lives in Southern Nigeria and beyond. As part of a dynamic team, God has been using us to impact our community. We currently have four dedicated officers serving Covenant Women Milton Keynes. Charity they say begins at home, so we decided to bring some encouragement into the hearts of women. A bible will have no meaning to someone that is hungry, better to first feed the person and he/ she will read the Bible. Some of our activities: we hold quarterly general meetings, we host married women's meetings

where guest ministers come to admonish the women, we send inspirational messages every 1st of the month to encourage our members, we also follow up members who we have not seen for some time in our various church meetings and we assist our members in weddings making it something to remember and thank God for. In addition to these, we organise baby showers and have a lot of fun on how to nurture children. We provide after care to our newly delivered mums, up to six weeks after child birth ensuring they continue to enjoy sisterly love even when childbirth seem to keep them away from the group. We encourage our members during bereavement as the bible urges us to rejoice with those who rejoice and morn with those who morn Romans 12:15. We host programmes locally and are involved with national events. Covenant Women MK is committed to advancing God’s kingdom through equipping women to grow, serve, and reach out with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through attending leadership trainings, retreats, outreaches and global opportunities, the Covenant Women connects women in transformational relationships and unites them in Christ to impact our world. I thank God for the Executives and all the Covenant Women - Milton Keynes for all your diligence in the house of God. A tree cannot make a forest, so I could not have done anything on my own. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans

15:13. I also thank God for the leadership of New Covenant Church in general. I will also use this medium to throw an open invitation to a lot of women out there, it does not matter which denomination you belong, if you have been yearning to bring out your gifts and talents, join this ministry in order to move the word of God to generations to come. You should know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations Deuteronomy7:9. I leave you with another of my favourite quotes in the Bible; Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Jesus Christ you are serving. Covenant Women are overcomers!

Woman at Bethany Ministry by Fola Omotunde Experience Intimacy with Jesus

Intimacy is the highest level of closeness to someone; both parties experience a need to engage, and to stay engaged. This I believe is the type of relationship the Lord Jesus Christ wants with each of us.

Woman at Bethany Ministry (WAB) was started in 2009. The vision is to raise an army of women worshippers for the equipping of the church. Since receiving this call, the leadership and members of New Covenant Church Milton Keynes have provided immense support to this ministry. I want to use this opportunity to thank you all. Your prayers helped birth life testimonies of breakthroughs, joy and growth. Jesus had many women followers; today we still form the largest numbers in churches across the globe. In engaging our local Christian community, we are non-denominational with 60% of our members from churches in and outside Milton Keynes.

We encourage our members to take part in our Prayer walk programmes. Our walks are designed for individuals seeking new levels in their spiritual journey. They help develop inner strength, how to listen to the Holy Spirit and understand the power of silence. At the feet of Jesus, a woman gave everything she had in her possession that was most valuable Mark 14:3. She made a profound statement by this act, “all I have is you, and all I need is you”. Jesus is till looking for women who will take this stance for His name sake. Our annual conferences are focussed on helping believers expand their capacity for intense worship and extravagant praise.
