hether you’re looking to refresh your current decor or you’re starting from scratch, the right window treatments can transform a room. From drapes to shutters to shades, there’s no shortage of options. To help select the best window treatment, our designers are sharing some basic parameters for choosing the ideal size, shape and style for your space. “The first thing you always have to address is function,” says Traci Zeller, owner of Traci Zeller Designs. “What do you need these window treatments to do? Do they just add softness, filter the light, or block out the light completely? Consider the look you’re trying to achieve. Consider the shape of the window, how much space you have above or on each side and the width of the panels, because this affects what type of window treatment will fit.” Also keep in mind that every window is different. “Have them custom measured, and figure out what your best option is,” says Lauren Clement, owner of Lauren Nicole Designs. “You don’t want to buy anything fabric-wise that doesn’t work, because it’s not inexpensive.
