Workforce Development Top Priority for 2016 Fish Fry celebrates 53 years

This year, Home Builders Care takes over planning the 53rd Annual Fish Fry from the Fargo Motor Patrol. The event is set for March 18 at the Fargo Civic Auditorium starting at 5:30 p.m. The event will be family-friendly with activities for kids. In addition, you can try your luck at meat raffles for delicious steak and bacon, cash raffles and a “wheelbarrow” raffle. You will have to come to see what the “wheelbarrow” raffle entails! We are looking for HBA members to donate their time and talents for live auction items. HBA members have expertise like carpentry, painting, landscaping and design that we would like to utilize for the auction. A day of handyman services, a day of painting, a day of landscaping work or one design consultation can be highly sought-after items and can show off what our industry can give! Sponsorship of the Fish Fry event is available and a great way to support the event. For $200 you receive a book of ten tickets, promotion on the HBC website and Facebook page and promotion at the event. $100 of the sponsorship qualifies as a charitable donation.

Workforce Development a focus in 2016

Workforce Development will be a big push for Home Builders Care in 2016. The Workforce Development Committee began meeting late last year and has determined that a campaign to promote construction careers is the most important thing to focus on in the near future. While helping members get the workers they need right now is also important, training programs are closing around the region because there are not enough people interested in those courses. One idea that the committee is currently focusing on includes working with our local public schools to create construction clubs for elementary and middle school students. If you have a child in that age-range and would be willing to help us create a club at an area school, let Jenny Erickson know. We are also moving forward with an opportunity to work with Fargo Public Schools and their Construction 2 classes to build a home for the City of Fargo. We think that this is a great opportunity to connect with students who are already interested in the industry while promoting the current programs already in place in our local schools. We will also be exploring a construction camp for kids, working with the schools to allow students to have a field trip to spend the day learning about construction and exploring the many different trades that go into building a home. Home Builders Care Foundation was created in 1993 by the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead. It is a local 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization.

It was established with funds donated by HBA members, fundraising events and the HBA itself. The purpose for its creation was to provide an outlet for the builder, remodeler and companies related to the building industry to show the community that there is more to the building industry than demolition, construction and remodeling.

The HBA handles the administratvie duties for the foundation at no charge. Any contribution designated to the foundation goes directly to the foundation and its charitable work. Address inquiries to Jenny Erickson 1802 32nd Ave S Fargo, ND 58103 Phone: (701) 232-5846
