SIGNATURE STYLE

A CONTEMPORARY REMODEL THAT HONORS THE CHARACTER OF

THE HOME

Grand Staircase: Updating the front door was one of the client’s earliest decisions, so a custom arched door was chosen to set the rich and tailored tone. Enormous changes occur on the interior, but the curves of the architecture are preserved. Angela Rodriguez, CEO and Director of Design at Angela Rodriguez Interiors designs a full-height wall panel and moulding design that follows the staircase curve to embrace it. The flooring features a stunning white marble accented with a polished travertine that fills this grand space.

TThis newly remodeled home stays true to its original character by honoring its most cherished features while also reflecting the personality of its new homeowners. From concept to completion, this exceptional remodel comes to life under the guidance of Angela Rodriguez, CEO and Director of Design at Angela Rodriguez Interiors, in collaboration with Hans Beiler of Beiler Construction and Residential Designer Brian Phipps of Phipps Home Design.

The charm of this new design lies in its ability to preserve the home’s enduring character. A prime example is the grand staircase, where the team retains the original curve and red oak treads, enhancing them with a darker stain while introducing a bespoke contemporary update with this modern iron railing. “From the entry, the dining room catches your eye,” shares Rodriguez. “It draws you there and makes you want to spend time there — it makes you want to sit there — it makes everybody smile.” This attraction is due to the stunning panoramic wallcovering and Rodriguez’s clever ceiling design. u

Great Room: Beiler, along with his highly skilled team of craftsmen, brings Rodriguez’s intricate millwork design to life, seamlessly unifying the expansive wall area and the spaces between the newly replaced windows with perfectly aligned millwork. Custom linen-textured drapery from Angela Rodriguez Interiors cascades from the 20-foot ceilings, adding drama to the room. Meanwhile, the palm frond green chenille sofa and caramel leather club chairs draw inspiration from the natural hues visible through the windows.

Coffee Bar: As demolition begins, this underutilized space below the stairs is discovered and quickly evolves into an ideal spot for a coffee bar and extra storage. Several options for reimagining the space are discussed during development, but ultimately, the staircase’s curve remains to honor the architecture’s overall design. The same cabinetry finishes maintain a harmonious palette, complemented by a natural quartzite countertop that matches the nearby kitchen island.

Kitchen: This entire kitchen exudes a warm, neutral color palette. Rodriguez custom-designs each cabinet to maximize functionality in this narrow, uniquely shaped space, opting for rift-cut white oak cabinetry crafted by Campbell Cabinetry Designs. The simple white quartz countertops follow the curve around the perimeter, highlighting the distinctive architectural features. The custom hood features a graceful curve that echoes the home’s arches and beautifully complements the La Cornue range below.

Breakfast Nook & Butterfly Garden View: Some exterior windows become arched for a hint of a modern Mediterranean style. However, these bay windows are refurbished to preserve their original charm and view. Surrounding the window is a white-on-slate wallpaper featuring stylized feathers. Below, a cozy nook invites you to dine or enjoy views of the butterfly garden. The banquette, featuring a green velvet backrest and a plush cushion seat, connects the nook to the kitchen with its decorative rattan cabinetry base.

Juxtaposed with the voluminous entrance and great room, the dining room has a lower ceiling. “When dealing with a low ceiling, it’s often treated as a blank white space, but thinking of it as a ‘fifth wall’ — always in view — the ceiling becomes an opportunity to add rich detail,” says Rodriguez. Embracing this concept, Rodriguez creates a ceiling design with coffers and beams that enhance the narrative of the home while ensuring the design feels timeless rather than time-stamped. Rodriguez initially envisions a more neutral palette for the great room. However, when the client suggests a green sofa, Rodriguez welcomes the idea to infuse personality and reflect the garden views. u

Rodriguez praises the team approach to design within her office, and together the whole team revitalizes the flow of this home by removing non-structural elements to improve circulation. On the other hand, structural changes were essential to making the home functional for this bustling family. Space under the stairs was creatively repurposed for extra storage and a coffee bar. “We had to relocate some bearing points and adapt the curved structure under the stairs to create the coffee nook. With the expertise of Phipps Home Design’s engineer, we successfully implemented these changes,” shares Beiler.

Significant changes were made during the redesign like incorporating a walk-in pantry and relocating the laundry room to a more convenient spot adjacent to the bedrooms. The new design’s colorway is neutral with a hint of warmth. The client loves to accent with color, and the design team endows playful touches of color all around the home.

Overall, this renovation exemplifies how thoughtful collaboration between design and construction can honor a home’s history while adapting it for modern living, where every curve, color, and custom detail tells the transformative story. n

Office: Rodriguez enhances the office with dark gray paint on the wall, making the arched window moldings pop. “The arches have a nice radius,” shares Beiler. “The millworker came out with a sophisticated measuring tool on a tripod and took many measurements to ensure the creation of these arched window mouldings.” The design is completed with a simple arched pendant light that beautifully complements the space’s curves, creating a professional yet lively atmosphere.

Dining Room: “This French wallcovering mirrors the rest of the home, with a neutral base accented by unexpected pops of color,” Rodriguez enthuses. “The birds bring the color, adding bursts of blue and yellow to the black-and-white backdrop. We were thrilled to have an adventurous client who trusted our vision.” Rodriguez selects a subtle chandelier to hang above the custom-designed dining table, pairing it with a mix of chair styles to achieve a curated look.

Primary Bathroom: The fully renovated primary bathroom showcases opulent features, including a spacious glass-encased steam shower. This stunning centerpiece is adorned with large-format book-matched porcelain, creating a striking visual impact. The floor boasts intricate water-jet-cut marble, adding to the room’s elegance. The crown jewel of this space is a 73-inch French bateau-inspired clawfoot tub with a polished nickel exterior paired with an elegant tub filler. Rodriguez’s custom-designed cabinetry elevates the makeup vanity, featuring fluted fronts and brass hardware that add refined detail and interest to the overall design.

Primary Bedroom: “The ceiling’s varied pitches and angles introduced visual complexity,” Rodriguez explains. “To address this, we wrapped the entire ceiling and walls in a seamless, woven wallcovering.” Pops of light blue and aubergine add an uplifting vibrancy to the tranquil design, while the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, crafted from European white oak and sourced from Sticks & Stones Flooring, creates a striking, standout feature with its herringbone pattern.

Laundry Room: “This redesign involved transforming a former bathroom into a laundry room while moving the bathroom to a more functional location. The project required significant plumbing work to accommodate the new layout, ensuring that the changes integrated smoothly,” explains Beiler. Rodriguez chooses playful tile patterns and light finishes for the interior, combining functionality with style, including ample storage, durable quartz counters, a hanger bar, and open shelving.

Loft: This versatile loft can be a playroom, homework area, or hangout space. Rodriguez custom-designed the built-in storage, combining open and closed sections to accommodate various needs. Playful colors like midnight blue and rust add vibrancy to the design, while the area rug and window treatments introduce delightful patterns that enhance the room’s energetic feel. For moments of quiet reflection, the cozy custom built-in bench offers a serene view of the canal.

Guest Bathroom: This sophisticated guest bathroom exudes elegance with its cohesive use of brass accents, from the acrylic and brass framed mirror to the plumbing fixtures from Gorman’s Gallery Kitchen & Bath Studio. The space is further unified by hexagon glass mosaic wall tiles featuring a striking starburst pattern, showcasing a blend of warm and cool neutrals on a glossy surface that adds depth and radiance. The vessel sink’s organic shape introduces a sense of movement to the space.

REVIVING ELEGANCE

HARMONIZING CLASSIC SPANISH REVIVAL AESTHETICS WITH SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS

Rustic wood beams span the tray ceiling painted in Alabaster by Sherwin-Williams. Warm wood-clad niches flank the fireplace and feature stunning hand-glazed fluted wall tile in a soft ivory hue. “Layering textures and patterns are important stylistically to the Spanish Revival style,” shares Christina Cruz, Owner and Principal Designer of Cruz Interiors, who incorporates patterns on the throw pillows and adds texture with the chunky cableknit throws on the inviting motorized reclining sofas.

Entry: “One of the beauties of doing a Spanish Revival style home is that it really allows the blending of old and new,” shares Cruz, who incorporates a classic arch adorned with hand-painted tiles. The exterior showcases the calming tones of TundraBrick by Eldorado Stone. Upon entering through the custom blackframed arched door, visitors are greeted by a foyer featuring a groin-vaulted ceiling finished in polished Venetian plaster, elegantly complemented by an aged brass chandelier from Visual Comfort.

SSince founding Cruz Interiors in 2009, Christina Cruz, RN, has dedicated herself to sustainable design practices. As the Owner and Principal Designer, Cruz integrates her nursing background with her interior design expertise in each project, focusing on health to create spaces that positively impact well-being.

“We like to use products with no or low VOCs and are Cradle to Cradle certified,” Cruz explains. “It’s not only about the production but ensuring that the final product impacts health positively.” Cruz extends this philosophy to the design of this Spanish Revival-style home, ensuring that every element contributes to a healthier living environment while maintaining aesthetic integrity. u

Kitchen: The custom hood by Archways & Ceilings is expertly finished in adobe and features a band in aged bronze-styled adobe by a local artist. The design achieves a harmonious balance between the painted wood Shaker cabinets and natural walnut cabinets, playing off their light and dark tones. Black hardware complements these elements, echoing the Spanish Revival style. This functional kitchen includes a hidden pantry and an environmentally conscious Café series induction cooktop.

In the dining room, 14-foot groin-vaulted ceiling detail finished in Venetian plaster create an old-world charm. Custom wainscoting amplifies the room’s height, and Cruz uses a round chandelier to anchor the voluminous space. Drapery panels made from William Yeoward fabric cascade gracefully, adding a soft elegance to the architecture. The client’s dining table integrates seamlessly with a low-pile custom rug for easy maintenance.

Cruz masterfully enhances the home’s elegant architecture with authentic Spanish flair, beginning with a striking entry transformation. The entryway now boasts a mesmerizing arched opening, a Spanish design hallmark adorned with exquisite artisanal tiles in a rich palette of terracotta, green, cream, and blue hues. These ornate, colorful tiles, reminiscent of traditional Spanish ceramics, frame a sleek black metal and glass door, creating a harmonious fusion of classic and contemporary elements.

This thoughtful juxtaposition of old-world craftsmanship and modern architectural sensibilities showcases Cruz’s expertise in blending styles. The intricate tilework pays homage to Spain’s rich artistic heritage, while the clean lines of the modern door add a touch of understated elegance. The result is an entrance that exudes both warmth and sophistication, serving as a captivating prelude to the Spanish-inspired design elements that await within.

“I wanted people to feel embraced by the Spanish Revival style,” says Cruz, who designed a groin-vaulted ceiling finished in splendid polished Venetian plaster. Beyond pure design, style, and finish selections, Cruz embraces the principles of neuroaesthetics, which studies how our brains respond to aesthetic experiences. She ensures her designs not only please the eye but also promote well-being by creating mood-enhancing environments and using natural lighting that supports healthy circadian rhythms. This careful attention to the sensory impact of environments leads from the foyer into the heart of the home. u

Bar & Lounge: Cruz selects a custom stain for the cabinetry, drawing inspiration from the dark knots and graining of the engineered wood floor. Backlit Cristallo arches and brass hardware from Belwith Keeler create a luxe visual, giving the bar a melded-modern vibe. This functional space features a Sommelier refrigerator from Monogram and a washable rug from Ruggable. Above, an Etruscan bronze light fixture with a mesh band beautifully diffuses light, enhancing the intimate feel of the space — ideal for social gatherings.

Dinette: This dinette table is crafted from a tree trunk and lends an organic touch to the room. Terracotta pots from Jeffan sit atop the table, displaying vibrant sprigs of eucalyptus. The black and white cushion pattern on the built-in storage bench harmonizes with the black frames of the chairs from Lulu and Georgia, linking these elements with the architectural black accents of the door and window frames for a cohesive overall look.

Primary Bathroom: The large-format porcelain tiles are made with post-consumer recycled content and mimic natural stone, while the zero-entry shower — clad with Dekton’s Entzo slabs — offers a seamless, spa-like experience. Brass plumbing fixtures from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery amplify luxury. The terracotta pot, brimming with vibrant foliage, recenters one with nature. Nearby, one can relax in the natural stone tub; its taupe hue harmonizes with the restorative color palette. “I wanted this primary bathroom to be a place where you would be enveloped in relaxation and nature,” shares Cruz, “and this soft color palette achieves that feeling.” The burnished finish cabinetry is mild and soothing, topped in quartz with a generous backsplash and earthy stone vessel sinks from Native Trails. A pleasing rhythm is created by alternating the vintage brass sconces and mirrors across this vanity.

Primary Bedroom: Cruz chooses this woven wool rug in neutral colors to introduce a little pattern that calls back to the Spanish style. Earthy tones evoke comfort and respite, like the camel leather bed with plush, inviting bedding from Boll & Branch, enhancing the cozy atmosphere. Rustic beams against the creamy white ceiling bring a balance of earth and light to the space, and here, a forged, hand-hammered chandelier gives off an organic texture and an old-world feel.

The fireplace in the grand living room, originally contemporary, now features a graceful, sweeping arch that beautifully enhances the room’s Spanish Revival aesthetic. This thoughtful redesign not only elevates the visual appeal but also promotes a healthy environment, thanks to the innovative zeroemission fireplace system selected by Cruz. Arches are a recurring design theme throughout the home, creating seamless transitions between spaces while establishing captivating focal points. u

A beautifully tiled archway gracefully connects the kitchen to the bar and lounge, enhancing the flow of the space. The kitchen exemplifies Cruz’s design vision, striking a harmonious balance between grounding hues, lush plant life, and sophisticated Spanish style. Brass accents adorn many of the lighting and plumbing fixtures, adding a touch of elegance to the overall aesthetic. The color palette features warm woods, soft alabaster, and rich greens and blues, with black as a unifying accent that seamlessly ties the design elements together. u

Guest Bedroom & En Suite: Cruz skillfully blends textures and colors to complement the home’s Spanish style, using terracotta, green, and cream tones with elegant patterns that celebrate the aesthetic. A table lamp adorned with an organic vine motif serves as a constant nod to this naturalistic influence, while underfoot is a plush custom rug that ties the colors of the room’s decor together. The guest bedroom’s en suite introduces a contemporary element with a sleek vanity from James Martin Vanities.

Laundry Room: The laundry and mudroom are infused with playful encaustic tile in a black-and-white Kenzzi pattern. This functional space is welcoming, featuring storage and drop zones, and is made warm by the morel hue of the cabinetry. A white quartz countertop and glossy white beveled subway tile pack a fresh punch to the warmth of the cabinetry stain. The space wouldn’t be complete without a biophilic element, and to be fun, Cruz adds a Picasso print as decor.

The primary suite garners tranquility through large windows that frame conservation area views. “We wanted to emulate the peaceful, calming feel of the outdoors in the primary suite,” Cruz shares. “We connect our interiors with nature through biophilia, natural light, and organic materials. This connection enhances the visual beauty of the space and also promotes well-being.”

This residence is a testament to the successful fusion of the Spanish Revival style and sustainable design principles. With this dedication to health and sustainability, Cruz crafts a home that is aesthetically pleasing and nurturing. “We aim to set ourselves apart by building our designs on a solid, sustainable foundation. This commitment to sustainability is central to who we are and what we aspire to be known for,” Cruz says, looking forward to continuing to innovate in the realm of sustainable interior design. n

Outdoor Living: The outdoor living area features a tongue-and-groove ceiling, and teak wood chairs with woven charcoal banding from Coco Republic. A creamy-hue adobe fireplace with corbel details and hand-painted tiles resonates with the indoor design. Moreover, it is yet again a zero-emissions fireplace, exemplifying Cruz’s commitment to clean spaces. Brass lanterns and large throw pillows create a casual, intimate gathering space. Porcelain pavers mimic travertine, chosen for their low maintenance.

Outdoor Dining & Kitchen: Blurring the line between superbly beautiful and ultra-functional, this outdoor kitchen and dining space excels in both. The outdoor kitchen, clad in durable Dekton, impresses with its subtle pattern that harmonizes with the plaster hood. These durable materials reduce waste and serve as another example of Cruz’s commitment to conservation. Equipped with a 36-inch grill, refrigerator, and sink, along with a durable concrete top dining table and comfortable seating, this area is perfectly prepared for both cooking and entertaining.

The ‘Sea-Through House,’ crafted by Mark Sultana of DSDG Architects, harmoniously integrates with its coastal environment through striking architectural features such as floor-to-ceiling glass and expansive balconies that beautifully frame the water views. Its warm, modern exterior showcases a blend of stucco, glass, and silver aluminum from Mullet’s Aluminum Products, enhanced by wood-look cladding in Light Bamboo from Longboard Architectural Products. The design features purposefully misaligned cube structures that evoke a sense of weightless elegance. These are enhanced by the soft glow of interior and exterior light fixtures, including backlit garage doors.

SEA-THROUGH HOUSE

A MODERN RETREAT WITH AN UNPARALLELED COASTAL CONNECTION

NNestled between a tranquil canal on one side and an expansive open bay on the other, this modern geometric home — designed by Mark Sultana, the Owner and Principal Architect of DSDG Architects — offers a unique ‘sea-through’ experience that incorporates the beauty of the outdoors into every aspect of its design. The boundary between land and water dissolves, creating a seamless connection with nature.

In essence, the home is designed with the ability to see through it, but the architectural design is far more intricate than its inspiration gives credit. “It’s a series of cubes and folded plates that intersect to create depth and three-dimensionality throughout,” Sultana explains. These flat planes — the walls and roof — form dynamic intersections for a complex, layered, and weightless architectural display. Open balconies and expansive glass walls give this home a transparent identity, highlighting its seamless connection to the coastal landscape. u

Kitchen: Capturing canal views, the interior features a neutral palette complemented by a blend of polished and matte finishes that add depth. The refined Azzura Bay quartzite seating island features a polished surface that elegantly serves as both a bartop and a full-height backsplash above. Elizabeth Merizon, the homeowner and interior designer, selected a ropeinspired pendant from Luke Lamp Company to add a nautical touch above the island. To maintain a clean and contemporary aesthetic, an appliance garage discreetly conceals the coffee bar when not in use. This ensures a clutter-free design that beautifully complements the sleek, modern cabinetry from Cucine Ricci Italian Cabinetry.

“Lighting naturally draws the eye and is a great way to make a statement and add warmth,” Merizon says. “It can frame a view or become a captivating focal point.” Bover pendants draw the eye toward the view while an LED grazer light washes over the Contour White fireplace tile by Porcelanosa. Dining chairs on casters — from Moe’s Home Collection — serve both the dining and living areas, enhancing functionality without clutter for a minimalist contemporary design.

Producing such a remarkable structure on such a noteworthy site demands the expertise of Michael Voigt, President of Voigt Brothers Construction. Voigt’s skillful site engineering prompts him to raise the grade to protect the home from the elements without compromising its coastal connection — a connection that Interior Designer Elizabeth Merizon, owner of Work of Art, is eager to reinforce within the interior, as both the homeowner and the designer.

Merizon approaches the project as she would with any client, asking her family what words they would use to describe the house: inviting, serene, and creative. “It was my job to connect the dots by carefully curating the design elements to reflect this,” Merizon says. She embraces a minimalist contemporary design, using neutral colors, and lighting to add warmth while letting the architecture rise as the design’s prominent feature. “The challenge in contemporary design with clean lines and a neutral palette is being deliberate in what draws the eye,” shares Merizon, thus putting considerable thought into each detail down to discreet electrical outlets. u

Nook: Sultana exclaims that he could spend the entire day watching dolphins and manatees from this vantage point. Merizon selects an acrylic desk for work moments when the marine life swims out of sight to preserve the view. Complementing the playful accessories and the warm tones of the Regina Andrew chandelier, Merizon chooses this bold art piece, “Ponder” from Four Hands, evoking a sense of calm and reflection in this peaceful nook.

Staircase: “It’s great when the goalpost moves to improve the design,” Voigt explains, referring to the evolving vision that often arises during custom builds. “This flexibility is why we rely on the same trades for every project — it consistently delivers outstanding results for our clients.” The white oak treads create the rhythm in this stairway. Merizon selects two large-scale, tone-on-tone art pieces to introduce an element of surprise and sophistication to the space.

Guest Bedroom: While the overall design favors neutrals, Merizon incorporates shades of blue and turquoise, chosen for their serene and refreshing qualities. These hues quietly infuse the spaces with a calming, coastal ambiance, exemplified by the boat-on-the-water artwork near the custom wardrobe from Lazzoni. In lieu of a traditional walk-in closet, Merizon has opted for a custom reach-in wardrobe featuring a rich, dark stain. This design not only maximizes space but also incorporates a built-in desk, seamlessly blending modern style, functionality, and elegance into the guest bedroom.

Bunk Room: Sultana’s bunk design combines modern functionality with a playful touch. Extra-long twin-over-queen bunks feature individual technology charging stations and personal lighting controls from Wicked Smart Homes. A central staircase with built-in puck lights adds ambiance and safety while separating the queen beds for maximum privacy. The bright white structure, accented by warm wood railings that complement the white oak flooring from Sticks & Stones Flooring, enhances the room’s cozy vibe.

The home’s connection to its coastal surroundings is key, with many rooms offering floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors. This is especially notable in the great room and primary bedroom, where the walls open wide. In the great room, Merizon adds a fireplace, cladding it with textured tile that artistically mimics waterlines in the sand. Behind this artistic display lies a significant feat of engineering. Voigt explains, “With so much glass on either side of this fireplace, this single wall serves as the spine of the home. We integrated pocketing doors and critical supports within it, ensuring it could carry the load while maintaining the design’s integrity.”

Sultana’s design process, guided by thoughtful conversation, ensures that every view is maximized. Inspired by Merizon’s vision for the primary bedroom, Sultana designs a seamless glass expanse without a corner post that opens to the bay. The interplay of architecture and interior design transforms the home into a livable work of art. From the canal’s vantage point, the house’s unique ‘sea-through’ feature is revealed, where the canal, pool, and bay water seamlessly converge into a harmonious plane. n

Primary Bedroom: “Mark designed a home that embraces our lifestyle by providing access to the outdoors and capturing water views. His use of balconies, vanishing walls, floorto-ceiling windows, and other strong architectural features amaze us!” Merizon remarks, impressed by the smooth-gliding sliding doors. Gold pendants from FlowDecor balance the billowy monochromatic interior. Every element in the room is thoughtfully designed with a singular focus — to capture the endless view.

Primary Bathroom: With large corner windows, this space is perfect for the freestanding Signature Hardware tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. With its delicate, cloud-like features, the matte white Berrie Bowl chandelier from Oly enhances the tranquil view. Moving away from traditional shower niches, Merizon opts for a clean-lined, singular shelf wall. By choosing a refined white palette and eliminating cabinet pulls, Merizon emphasizes her dedication to the vanity’s contemporary and uncluttered design.

Outdoor Living: “We designed the pool and deck to connect with the outdoor living area,” explains Sultana. “By elevating the pool to the same level as the kitchen, dining, and living spaces, the entire area flows together, unified for entertaining.” Above the custom-built island, a striking outdoor chandlier from Hubbardton Forge creates an inviting ambiance, giving the outdoor living space the feel of an interior room. To unwind, the remarkable Paloform fireplace creates a cozy ambiance around a sofa and chairs from Azzurro Living.

Pool: “This negative edge pool features a spillway that creates the illusion of water cascading directly into the canal behind it,” explains Voigt. The elevated design enhances this optical effect and provides a soothing ambient sound, perfect for relaxing poolside on the chaise loungers from Couture Jardin. The architecture’s sophistication is expressed through sleek lines and a balanced palette of cool and warm materials, accentuated by an aluminum railing from Mullet’s Aluminum Products that adds a layer of visual texture.

Rear Elevation: The breathtaking picturesque experience from the canal attracts you to this stunning home, and it is here that the connection between the home and the waterways is seamless. Elevating the pool is essential because it brings everyone together on one serene stage. Sultana’s geometric-style architecture features more floor-to-ceiling windows, making the lighting fixtures of the home glowing beacons that draw the eye back to this remarkable architecture. While another landscape architect created the initial design, Siesta Key Landscape expertly provided and installed all the essential elements that contribute to a beautiful and functional outdoor space. Their services included irrigation, drainage, sod, plants, trees, and grass, ensuring a cohesive and vibrant landscape that enhances the property’s appeal.

A MODEL FOR SUCCESS

JOHN CANNON HOMES AND CLIVE DANIEL HOME COLLABORATE TO DESIGN AND BUILD A RESORT-LIVING MODEL BEYOND COMPARE

TThe Pindari model by John Cannon Homes, nestled in Wild Blue at Waterside Village in Lakewood Ranch, exemplifies sophisticated design and luxurious amenities tailored to Sarasota’s discerning homebuyers. This expansive 4,368-square-foot residence boasts four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a generous four-car garage, providing ample living space and storage. Responding to evolving buyer demographics, the design team has crafted a home with broad appeal, moving away from traditional coastal aesthetics despite its proximity to the water. By combining luxury with practicality and contemporary design, the Pindari model offers a unique living experience that caters to the evolving tastes of Sarasota’s homebuyers, all within a 30-minute drive from the coast.

The initial design discussions revolved around a new directive and a changing buyer demographic, which required the team to shift their approach to home design. Quentin MacDonald, Interior Designer at Clive Daniel Home, explained, “There was definitely discussion about current trends and what’s popular.” u

Front Elevation: John Cannon, President of John Cannon Homes, characterizes the home’s exterior design as a modern farmhouse style. “This design is a style that seamlessly blends contemporary and traditional elements to create a balanced and harmonious aesthetic,” he says. “It features clean lines with classic elements, a neutral color palette, a mix of materials and textures, and sophisticated detailing that together create an elegant and timeless appeal.” The streamlined driveway pavers and architectural elements draw the eye directly to the grand entrance.

The massive double-door entry opens to a foyer with a glass-enclosed study to the left, a feature wall to the right, and a direct sightline through the great room to the pool area and lake beyond. The foyer and great room showcase the beautiful wood floors, incredible architectural design, and interior details that make this home unique, including designer lighting from LyteWorks. MacDonald says Clive Daniel Home excels at designing openconcept spaces that draw the eye from one area to the next with complementary design elements that create continuity.

Kitchen: The kitchen has stained and painted cabinets, Bianco Dolomite quartz countertops, and an artisanal tile backsplash. It is equipped with professional Blue Star appliances from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, which combine a timeless elegant look with practical functionality. The extra-large windows in the kitchen serve as an organic focal point. A combination of standard and glass-front cabinetry and some open shelving adds visual interest to the all-white perimeter. The illuminated drop ceiling and elegant pendant lights above the island create a welcoming atmosphere, enhancing the space’s intimacy. The warm wooden barstools and brass accents create a comfortable yet contemporary feel.

Great Room: “In a space like this, the key is to ensure energy flows in multiple directions,” explains MacDonald. The room’s center is a focal point, featuring thoughtfully arranged seating that encourages conversation. The designers meticulously chose furnishings that blend comfort and style without obstructing views from any angle. A sofa flanked by two pairs of chairs promotes seamless movement throughout the area. Swivel chairs at one end can pivot to face the outdoor living space and pool. MacDonald emphasizes that the team aimed for a curated aesthetic, incorporating diverse textures in the chair fabrics, pillows, and layered rugs.

“At John Cannon Homes, we believe in creating homes that reflect the unique visions and lifestyles of our clients,” says John Cannon, President of John Cannon Homes. “This non-coastal design is a departure from the traditional styles to cater to buyers who seek a distinctive and personalized living experience. Our clients are discerning buyers who appreciate architectural diversity and wish to fill their homes with character and individuality.” u

Dining Room: This multifunctional dining area boasts a large wooden dining table the same size as the kitchen island, an elegant wine niche, and a wet bar adorned with gleaming brass and glass shelves, creating an ideal space for entertaining. The bright, airy ambiance is complemented by abundant storage solutions, including an adjoining pantry and a generously sized island. MacDonald masterfully crafted a moody counterpoint to the luminous kitchen, centering the dining space around a bespoke live-edge table. Two upholstered host chairs flank this striking piece, their colors echoing the natural hues visible through the kitchen window, creating a captivating indoor-outdoor visual dialogue. The addition of cane-backed chairs atop a dark, textural rug introduces a lighter element, skillfully balancing the overall aesthetic.

MacDonald and fellow Interior Designer Kelli Smith at Clive Daniel Home led the charge for the furnishings and accessories. “John Cannon has a great eye and hires great people,” MacDonald says. “Many decisions, particularly hard surface decisions, are made before we become involved. We do the icing on the cake, such as the rugs, paint colors, wallpapers, furniture, draperies, and all the accessories.”

MacDonald states that with open floor plans, the team focuses on creating a level of cohesion that ebbs and flows from one space to the next. They opt for as many custom furnishings as possible to make the homes they design truly unique. “At Clive Daniel Home, we lean in on things built in the United States. We lean in on things that are custom,” MacDonald says. u

Wine Room: The glass-enclosed wine storage area, located off the foyer and across from the study, is a stunning focal point. The design team turned the foyer wall behind the wine storage into a striking feature by applying grasscloth wallcovering, creating a captivating three-dimensional effect. This design is further enhanced by extending the wall to the impressive 15-foot-high ceiling, drawing the eye upward and highlighting the room’s grandeur.

Study: The John Cannon Homes team crafted the study’s built-in wall, while Clive Daniel Home designers enhanced it with textured wallpaper, elevating the space beyond a simple paint finish. MacDonald emphasizes Cannon’s goal of creating lived-in model homes, where accessories and finishing touches are crucial. The textured, striated wallpaper provides a perfect backdrop for these elements to shine. The feature wall’s striking design is complemented by a glass surround, adding depth and intrigue. However, the room’s crowning glory is the chevron ceiling detail. “We deliberately avoided hanging a light fixture to showcase the ceiling’s unique design,” MacDonald explains.

Primary Suite: This suite and its adjoining outdoor space were designed as a homeowners’ relaxing retreat. Although the room is spacious, the dark ceiling color creates a sense of coziness and warmth, while the canopy bed frame with goldleaf accents serves as an alluring centerpiece. Luxe leather chairs and a textured jute rug provide the sought-after curated look. Black and gold tones from the bed and the leather echo in the outdoor seating area’s plush pillows, creating continuity from one space to the next. “The goal for this space was to make it feel like you could really live there, to make it feel like it could be home,” MacDonald says. “One of the main reasons people come to Florida is because of our weather, because of the outdoors. We hoped to make these two spaces feel cohesive. You could wake up in that gorgeous bedroom and then make your way out onto the veranda by the pool.”

“Some of the standout design elements in this home include the expansive open concept living areas, the seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, and the use of high-end materials and finishes,” Cannon says. “We also emphasized natural light and incorporated design practices that make the home not only beautiful but also practical, ensuring a comfortable and functional living space for years to come.” n

Her En Suite: This luxurious sanctuary exudes a boutique ambiance, featuring polished porcelain and marble finishes, a stylish makeup vanity, a glass-enclosed shower, and a private water closet. The green paint from the bedroom ceiling and gold accents echo throughout, adding elegance. The sleek bathtub is strategically placed in front of the windows, allowing natural light to fill the space while ensuring privacy. Her oversized closet offers ample storage and a beautiful area for getting ready, enhancing the overall functionality of the room.

His Closet, Shower, & Vanity: The bathroom and closet have a sophisticated appeal, with dark charcoal tile in the shower, dark wood cabinetry, and a rustic wood vanity. The wardrobe showcases masculine elements with rustic wood, slate tile, and matte black fixtures, creating a stylish and cohesive look. The impressive chevron tile design flows across the floor, walls, and ceiling. The Clive Daniel team requested an electrical change in the plan to accommodate the unique asymmetrical pendant lights over the vanity.

Bonus Room: Guests have a private living area that can be used as a bonus entertaining space. The design team opted for a playful look with the gold-toned feature wall and boho-style chandelier. Bold black-and-white furnishings in funky geometric shapes, plus the graphic black-and-white rug, provide contrast to the warm wood ceiling, which demonstrates the level of customization available in a home of this quality. The shuffleboard table adds a lively touch to the room.

Guest Bedroom: A harmonious combination of light colors and textures creates a slightly industrial feel in the guest bedroom. The room showcases a carefully curated mix of materials, featuring a metal-framed bed and side tables that combine whitewashed wood with metal accents.“More and more, we’re seeing mixtures of textures,” MacDonald says. “We want to have metals and leathers and fabrics in each piece. We think that curated layers make it feel like someone loves the space. Maybe it took a while for someone to put things together.” The dark accent wall tempers the light bedding, floor, rug, and other walls. MacDonald carefully plans window coverings; this Roman shade is highly textured but sleek and tailored.

Casita: While the main house embraces a contemporary style, the casita offers a relaxed coastal vibe. MacDonald explains that visitors might want that traditional Florida experience. The furnishings and palette include gray-washed, driftwood-style tables with beachy sand-colored upholstered pieces. Hints of blue in a variety of shades harken to the ocean style. The casita has a private entrance but also connects to the main home’s guest quarters, providing a high-end hotel experience with a wet bar and coffee station.

Outdoor Kitchen: This outdoor kitchen embodies the Florida lifestyle, fully equipped for cooking and entertaining. It features a striking oversized island, stylish backsplash tile, comfortable barstools, and three televisions — perfect for game-day gatherings. There’s also a poolside dining area with seating for six and additional outdoor seating connected to indoor spaces by large accordion doors, including one with a 90-degree opening for seamless indoor-outdoor flow. MacDonald highlights the importance of energy flow and sightlines in enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Pool & Outdoor Living: The pool and deck feature sleek lines and a clean design, creating an inviting outdoor space. Ample seating connects each area, including a cozy firepit area off the primary bedroom, sheltered by a pergola that provides shade from the midday sun. This space is designed for outdoor living at its best—offering sun, shade, privacy, and room for entertaining. “There’s a great outdoor kitchen that includes a bar that you can saddle up to for watching TV. It’s a great space for hanging out or throwing a party,” MacDonald explains. “And we leaned into that. We wanted to do accessories that made it feel like you were at a party in the perfect spot for dining.”

FOREVER HOME ON ANNA MARIA ISLAND

HSH COLLECTIVE GIVES A COASTAL HOME THE OLD FLORIDA STYLE IT DESERVES

TThis home on Anna Maria Island was fundamentally sound; it merely needed a cosmetic update reflecting its beautiful surroundings and stunning views. The remodeling contractor, Jack Schneider, suggested that the clients work with Jessica Holiday, Principal Designer at HSH Collective, to enhance the project’s design. Holiday and Lead Rental Designer Bridgette Latessa created a plan to embrace the Old Florida style while developing a redesign that seamlessly blends style, functionality, and consideration for the entire family — pets included. The homeowners use the property seasonally but plan to make it their full-time residence in the future. u

Kitchen: Holiday noted that the original kitchen had a rather “glossy” finish, so she decided to tone down the shine for a more natural aesthetic. She chose a modern shaker door style that she had previously requested from Progressive Cabinetry for another project, appreciating its ability to blend coastal modernity with a touch of traditional charm. “It’s something that I love because it gives that coastal, modern vibe that our clients want while still honoring a little bit of that traditional essence of a shaker,” she says. While retaining the existing appliances, Holiday upgraded to new stainless steel models from Mullet’s Appliances, introducing a contemporary touch. Woven, beehive-shaped pendant lights add texture and warmth, complementing the sleek appliances. The Lunada Bay Tile mosaic is a stunning focal point, its ocean-inspired hues evoking the coastal setting. Thoughtful details abound. “There’s a dedicated dog-feeding area complete with a pot filler from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery for easy water refills,” Latessa says.

Front Elevation: The design team skillfully transformed the home’s exterior, maintaining its original structure while introducing elements that soften its modern appearance. They added board-and-batten detailing and soft blue shutters, creating a more inviting facade. New features include an elegant railing, wrapped columns, and carefully selected exterior light fixtures. The driveway and garage doors were also upgraded, enhancing curb appeal. “The idea was to soften the look to what I would call a warm contemporary home, with a little bit of the Old Florida charm,” Holiday says. The team retained the original travertine decking at the front and rear of the home, preserving continuity and timeless elegance.

“Every room needed to be super comfortable, and they needed space for the couple’s young adult children,” Holiday says. “They needed private spaces, but that also function so that when they’re all together, they can pile in and watch movies and hang out.”

The couple was transparent about their lifestyle preferences, clearly articulating what elements resonated with them and what did not. They placed their trust in Holiday to weave her creative magic, resulting in a stunning coastal property designed to meet both their current and future needs for full-time living. “That meant creating spaces that, right now, might be decorated with art or accessories but might eventually be a bookcase or storage for Christmas supplies,” Holiday explains. “We focused on current needs, but also what it could look like in the future, while always keeping in mind the possibility of a resale because, at the end of the day, there is always that possibility.”

Although the initial plan suggested retaining the original flooring, Holiday strongly advocated upgrading to wide-plank, engineered white oak floors to enhance the home’s aesthetic appeal and market value. To further elevate the design, she identified key areas for improvement, including adding carefully selected wallpapers for texture and visual interest, incorporating specialty lighting fixtures to create ambiance, and integrating design elements that reflect the coastal setting. These thoughtful enhancements seamlessly blend the home’s Gulfside charm with the owners’ lifestyle, resulting in a visually stunning space perfectly tailored to their needs. This comprehensive approach ensures that every design decision contributes to the home’s immediate livability and long-term value. n

Staircase: The staircase elegantly separates the living room from its two distinct seating areas, creating a seamless flow throughout the space. Adjacent to the stairs, you’ll find an additional seating area featuring four stylish chairs and a barrel-shaped, raffia-wrapped cocktail table. A desk designed to complement the foyer console enhances visual continuity and adds functionality to the room. This versatile area is a perfect retreat when the house is bustling, providing a quiet spot for phone calls or a dedicated workspace. The staircase has been thoughtfully redesigned with modern elements, adding a contemporary flair to the overall aesthetic.

Foyer: The original foyer felt cramped, so the design team relocated the staircase header to create a more open and airy atmosphere. To further enhance this fresh look, the designers incorporated shiplap with wider boards that extend from the first floor up the stairwell. Holiday chose a sleek modern console paired with an oyster shellframed mirror, which beautifully reflects the understated elegance of the Ro Sham Beaux sea glass chandelier above. This thoughtful redesign transforms the foyer into a welcoming and stylish entryway.

Living Room: The living room design needed to accommodate large gatherings while maintaining an intimate atmosphere for family relaxation. The space’s irregular shape and off-center window placement added complexity to the design puzzle. To create balance, the designers ingeniously positioned a separate seating area on the left side of the room, centering the main living space with the windows. This clever arrangement allowed two facing Four Hands sectionals and two chairs in the TV viewing area, complemented by auxiliary seating to the left. The cohesive look was achieved with a carefully chosen Look Walls & Interiors wallcovering, unifying the space and enhancing its visual appeal. “It’s bringing in that water that you see in the view off the sliders, but also just a little bit of a modern edge with that little bit of gray,” Holiday says. “I wanted a wallpaper that connected that whole space — tied all the pieces together.”

“Every room needed to be super comfortable, and they needed space for the couple’s young adult children,” Holiday says. “They needed private spaces, but that also function so that when they’re all together, they can pile in and watch movies and hang out.”

Primary Bathroom: The designers expertly reconfigured the primary bathroom to enhance functionality and create a more open shower area. The walls were adorned with soft gray paint, setting a tranquil tone throughout the space. A warm yet sleek vanity was introduced, perfectly complementing the overall design. To elevate the ambiance, Holiday chose a stunning drum-shaped chandelier from Kalco Lighting, featuring capiz shells and brushed brass accents, which gracefully hangs over the bathtub. The new steam shower boasts a striking feature wall lined with exquisite glass mosaic tiles, adding a touch of luxury and visual interest. This thoughtfully designed bathroom seamlessly blends elegance with practicality, transforming it into a serene retreat.

Primary Bedroom: The layout of the primary bedroom, similar to the living room, has a slightly off-center design. To address this design challenge, the designers opted for a textural grasscloth wallpaper that creates the illusion of enhanced symmetry within the space. “We added blown-glass pendants so that we didn’t have lamps on the nightstand that would bring another horizontal line into the space,” Holiday explains. The room’s generous size allows the homeowners to incorporate a loveseat at the foot of the bed and two oversized swivel chairs in the bay window area, creating multiple inviting spaces for relaxation and leisure.

Guest Bedroom: The design of this guest bedroom was inspired by a striking Thibaut fabric used for the throw pillows, which Holiday found particularly captivating. While primarily designed with the couple’s adult children in mind, the room was thoughtfully crafted to accommodate various guests. The team incorporated oversized nightstands with ample drawer space to compensate for the limited closet space. The room’s aesthetic is elevated by a luxurious Phillip Jeffries grasscloth wallcovering, its blue hues echoing the stunning bay views from the windows.

Guest Bathroom: Conveniently located off the newly designed home gym, this guest bathroom is the only space that retains its original cabinetry. The designers selected new countertops, cabinet hardware, lighting, and plumbing fixtures to rejuvenate the room, giving it a fresh and modern feel. However, the stunning rope-wrapped mirrors truly elevate the space, adding unique texture and a pop of color. The designers discovered these eye-catching mirrors at a designer-only market and immediately fell in love with them, eagerly awaiting the perfect opportunity to incorporate them into a design.

Outdoor Living: Perched on the second level, just outside the primary bedroom and adjacent to the home gym and office, this inviting outdoor living space is thoughtfully designed for relaxation and socializing. Holiday selected durable outdoor furnishings from Four Hands, including four upholstered chairs and a stylish ombre coffee table, ensuring comfort and resilience against the elements.”It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a workout or escape the hustle and bustle of the house when family and friends visit,” Holiday explains.

Home Gym: Housing the homeowners’ Pelotons and serving as the wife’s office, this room offers stunning views of the bay and the iconic Sunshine Skyway Bridge, inspiring both workouts and creative endeavors. “Our goal was to create a space that’s crisp, clean, and flexible,” Holiday explains. “It’s designed to accommodate a yoga mat for exercise while also being suitable for conference calls.” This balance is achieved through thoughtful furnishing choices, including an oversized swivel chair in the corner, complemented by a vibrant chartreuse side table that adds a pop of color. A well-placed desk catering to work needs further enhances the room’s functionality. Additionally, the adjoining patio connects to the primary bedroom, creating a comprehensive primary retreat area.

Outdoor Dining: While the front of the home showcases a charming picket railing that evokes the essence of Old Florida style, the homeowners were committed to preserving the stunning views from the rear of the house. As a result, the designers opted for sleek glass railings on both the main and upper-level patios, ensuring unobstructed sightlines. In addition to the railings, the designers thoughtfully preserved the existing travertine outdoor flooring, enhancing the space’s elegance. They also refinished the dark wood tongue-and-groove ceiling, adding warmth and character and further contributing to the Florida charm.

Powder Room: “We are obsessed with this space,” Holiday exclaims about the powder bathroom. “We always had this wallpaper earmarked because we love it.” The wife initially hesitated about having the Phillip Jeffries patterned wallpaper in the small room. Still, she appreciated the driftwood-look cabinetry, luxurious plumbing fixtures, rounded corner mirrors, and vintage-inspired lighting. Once the project was completed, the client’s skepticism transformed into delight as she exclaimed, “You were so right. That wallpaper is stunning!” This transformation highlights how thoughtful design can elevate even the smallest spaces, turning them into captivating style showcases.

Pool: The original pool, being in excellent condition, was retained as a centerpiece of the outdoor space. However, the surrounding backyard required thoughtful updates to harmonize with the home’s newly refreshed exterior areas. “We updated and reorganized some of the decking around the pool,” Holiday explains. “We cleaned out a lot of the landscape and replaced it with new, plus added a putting green and fire pit.”

Outdoor Shower: Latessa was tasked with designing an outdoor shower for bathing the couple’s beloved large dogs. “I presented the clients with inspiration images that incorporated a vibrant blue tile, harmonizing with the natural elements — blues, greens, and browns — complemented by beautiful ipe wood,” she explains. The design process took an amusing turn midway through. “We were deep into the planning when I suddenly realized, ‘Wait, should we include a spot for the humans too?’” Latessa recalls. The result is a charming outdoor shower that serves its practical purpose and adds a touch of whimsy and color to the exterior space. It’s a perfect example of how functional design can be beautiful and accommodating, meeting the entire family’s unique needs — furry members included.

BLENDED TO PERFECTION

SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATING NEW AND EXISTING PIECES IN A THOUGHTFULLY DESIGNED HOME

BBlending new furniture with existing pieces throughout an entire home can be daunting, but Interior Designer Ellen Silverman of Robb & Stucky expertly rose to the challenge. After the couple constructed a contemporary home in a sought-after area on Sarasota’s eastern edge, they found themselves in need of extensive furnishings. The wife initially spearheaded the renovation process but, feeling unsatisfied with the progress, sought Silverman’s expertise. Recognizing the potential, Silverman leveraged Robb & Stucky’s high-end product offerings to create the look her clients desired.” u

Entry: Upon entering through the front door, you are welcomed by a dramatic foyer that showcases striking architectural details and a captivating light fixture. Silverman designed a breathtaking niche featuring a striated wallpaper backdrop and a bold black table from Phillips Collection, adorned with a silver root pattern that draws the eye downward. The mirror was chosen for its unique broken appearance, reminiscent of a lightning bolt striking through it, adding an intriguing focal point to the space.

The couple owns two fantastic art photographs — one of Mick Jagger and one of Keith Richards. Drawing on that inspiration, Silverman selected a sleek, Scandinavian-style piece, or a “hip” sofa for the office, as she calls it. As with many throughout the home, the window treatments are a high-end mesh fabric with metallic accents. Both the coffee table and the rug enhances the room with rich textures and intriguing visual elements.

Living Room: “We started there with the floor plan,” Silverman explains. “The builder was phenomenal. He created these beautiful spaces with ceiling architecture that dictated how the rest of the home would look.” Building upon these architectural elements and incorporating pre-selected furnishings, she chose luxurious velvet fabric for a pair of minimalist-style Century Furniture sofas. “We added two sculptural chairs that were taller than the sofas, so they would reach up to the ceiling and have a big defined shape in the room as well. To kick it out a little more, we put the shag carpet in there for texture.” The coffee table with clear acrylic legs establishes a subtle visual link to the bar stools in the adjoining kitchen, and is perched atop the rich texture of the shag carpet. This thoughtful combination of elements creates a harmonious, sophisticated living space that blends form and function.

“When they described their vision, I immediately knew Robb & Stucky was the ideal source to curate these items for their home,” Silverman explains. “I was confident we had precisely what they were looking for.” Drawing on contemporary pieces from Robb & Stucky’s collection, Silverman skillfully crafted a cohesive design that seamlessly integrated with the couple’s existing furnishings, resulting in a harmonious and stylish living space.

The homeowners approached the project with a clear vision, combining a specific color palette with the wife’s desire for bold patterns juxtaposed against quieter tones. They sought an architectural aesthetic throughout, complemented by organic shapes and textures. Silverman skillfully incorporated these elements while drawing inspiration from the couple’s existing furnishings to create a cohesive look across the entire home.

For example, the kitchen island’s barstools served as a starting point for design continuity. Silverman echoed their acrylic legs in her selection of a dining table, creating a subtle visual connection between spaces. She then amplified the stools’ patterned seats by choosing complementary sofas for the adjoining living room, effectively tying the areas together. u

Dining Room: Silverman introduced a natural element to the dining area with a stunning live-edge wooden table, which serves as a striking centerpiece. To complement this organic aesthetic, she chose bucket-style chairs upholstered in vinyl — a material that mimics the softness of leather while providing the practical benefit of easy cleaning after social gatherings. Silverman wholeheartedly endorses the comfort of these chairs, stating, “The organic feel of the dining table paired with the incredibly comfortable chairs — offering support that feels like a hug — invites guests to linger after dinner for conversation.”

Owner’s Suite: Although the homeowners had already acquired much of the furniture for the owner’s suite, Silverman infused the space with life by introducing a subtle yet stunning handmade wallpaper adorned with sparkles, breaking the monotony of the white color scheme. She complemented this with translucent window treatments and a pair of barrel-style swivel chairs featuring German silver frames and textured upholstery, adding comfort and elegance. The adjoining bathroom offers a tranquil view of the pond on their private property, enhancing the serene atmosphere of the suite.

This meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful integration of elements resulted in a polished, designer finish. Each room flows seamlessly into the next, creating a harmonious living space that perfectly balances the homeowners’ desire for bold statements with cohesion and sophistication.

The palette showcases earthy tones — warm browns, black, charcoal, white, and cream — highlighting textures and structural lines, resulting in a striking and dramatic effect. “The main idea was to keep it simple,” Silverman explains. “She wanted texture, specific colors, and an architectural feel reflected in the furniture. We embraced this concept in every room we worked on, crafting a completely original design tailored specifically for them and their beautiful home.” n

Lanai & Outdoor Living: The homeowners envisioned the lanai as an extension of their indoor living space, prompting Silverman to blend colors and design styles seamlessly. Various seating areas feature architecturally inspired furniture and organic materials, including weathered teak, jute, and rough-hewn stone. The dining area comfortably seats six guests and is enhanced by several barstools in the outdoor kitchen, creating an inviting space for dining and entertaining. A cozy gathering area by the fire pit and poolside loungers enhance the outdoor experience. “She wanted it to feel like it was part of the house — not just outside, but an integral part of the home,” Silverman explains. The indoor living room opens wide to the outdoor living area, creating a seamless entertaining space.

SALTY OAK

A SALVAGED TREE INSPIRES THE DESIGN OF A LUXURY VACATION RENTAL, BRINGING IT TO LIFE

LLuxury residential design reaches new heights when adapted for the high-end vacation rental market, demanding a delicate fusion of opulence and durability to withstand frequent use. Jenifer DuFresne, Interior Designer and Founder of Inside Eye Design has masterfully navigated this challenging terrain. Her expertise is brilliantly showcased in a breathtaking Crescent Beach property, exemplifying the height of resilient luxury design. This beautiful home shows how luxurious design can be skillfully combined with practical, long-lasting features. The result is a space that delights the senses while meeting the high standards of discerning travelers. DuFresne’s creation perfectly blends comfort with durability, setting a new standard in the realm of upscale vacation rentals. u

Front Elevation: This home beautifully reinterprets the phrase, “Business in the front, party in the back.” The entrance exudes a graceful, understated elegance that pays homage to the magnificent oak tree for which the property is named. Black-framed doors and gridded windows lend a quintessential coastal charm, while the silver metal roof and warm wooden accents — including the garage doors and substantial corbels — infuse the design with a hint of modern farmhouse flair.

Living Room: When collaborating with clients like Vunique Vacations, DuFresne’s primary focus extends beyond aesthetics to encompass durability and efficient turnover between guests. However, she recognizes that the property’s visual appeal in photographs is crucial for its success in the vacation rental market. With this in mind, DuFresne crafted a living room that perfectly balances style and practicality. The furnishings are carefully selected to accommodate large groups while withstanding frequent use. A palette of deep blue hues, which threads throughout the entire design, adds a sense of cohesion and sophistication to the space.

Living Room Feature Wall: DuFresne’s signature organic and elegant style is exemplified in the living room’s TV wall, which showcases a striking stacked stone backdrop. This design is artfully enhanced by a carefully curated selection of cascading and floor plants, creating an inviting oasis that exudes warmth and tranquility. Throughout the home, DuChateau luxury vinyl tile with a wood-look finish provides a sophisticated yet durable flooring solution capable of withstanding heavy use. The thoughtful incorporation of varied wood tones further elevates the space, creating an eclectic and welcoming atmosphere that seamlessly blends natural elements with modern comfort.

Dining Room: The crisp white dining set offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional farmhouse design, providing ample seating that complements the adjacent island seating. DuFresne enhanced the space with carefully selected lighting fixtures from LyteWorks: mixed metal schoolhouse-style pendants above the island and a soft, curved Currey & Company chandelier over the dining table. “Ambient lighting plays a crucial role in my design philosophy,” DuFresne explains. “It allows you to create a warm, inviting atmosphere by turning off overhead lights, can lights, and pendants. Instead, the subtle glow of LED fixtures and strategically placed sconces produces a cozy, intimate ambiance perfect for evening gatherings.” This thoughtful approach to lighting design enhances the room’s functionality. It allows for a versatile mood setting, transforming the dining area from a bright, energetic space during the day to a serene, relaxing environment in the evening.

Kitchen: “My vision typically originates in the kitchen, as it’s the source of numerous design elements that influence the entire home,” DuFresne explains. She considers crucial factors such as cabinetry color, kitchen layout, backsplash material and color, the presence of upper cabinets or open shelves, and ceiling height. The porcelain tile backsplash and quartz countertops in this space introduce a luxurious richness, beautifully complemented by warm wood counter stools. Progressive Cabinetry’s Rockledge door style offers a contemporary interpretation of the classic Shaker design while discreetly concealing a mix of high-end Bosch and GE appliances from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery.

Primary Bedroom: DuFresne employs a clever design strategy in bedrooms to maintain their pristine appearance: incorporating millwork wall treatments that protect against damage from guests’ luggage. A simple yet elegant wainscot serves this practical purpose in this primary bedroom while adding visual interest. Continuing her signature style, DuFresne subtly weaves touches of blue throughout the home, imparting a coastal feel without being overly thematic. The organic pattern wallpaper above the wainscot reinforces her nature-inspired design aesthetic, while soft, textural basket-style pendant lights add warmth and dimension to the space.

Dubbed “The Salty Oak” in homage to the preserved oak tree gracing the front yard and its prime Siesta Key location, this custom project is the result of a collaborative effort between Interior Designer Jenifer DuFresne, Residential Designer AJ Barnard, Builder Scott Eason, and Landscape Designer Tyler Lancaster. Their goal was to create a space that maximizes family enjoyment while withstanding the rigors of a high-traffic vacation home. DuFresne emphasizes that the team’s longstanding partnership enables seamless collaboration from the beginning of the project.

Architecturally, this impressive 8,000-square-foot home (with 4,300 square feet of air-conditioned space) features six en suite bedrooms and embodies classic coastal style. Its design incorporates elegant corbel details, tongue-and-groove ceiling treatments, and expansive sliding doors that open to stunning outdoor living areas. The home is designed as a self-contained vacation paradise, accommodating up to 18 guests, including a guest room with queen-over-queen bunks. It offers multiple niche living areas for group relaxation, various dining spaces, and an array of activities, including a putting green, golf simulator, dartboard area, ping-pong table, multiple TV-watching spaces, a bar, a hot tub, and a zeroentry pool complete with a waterslide from the second-floor balcony. This thoughtful design ensures guests have little reason to venture beyond the property during their stay. u

Office: DuFresne emphasizes the importance of including an office or workspace in all her designs, recognizing that even vacation homes often require a quiet retreat for business or a break from the bustling activity of the household. This niche features a workstation on one side and a small dining table perfect for enjoying breakfast or coffee on the opposite side. The dark wood and wallpaper with deep blue accents create a warm, tranquil atmosphere, while a modern Capiz shell chandelier from LyteWorks adds a touch of elegance. “This space is designed to be both functional and inviting, allowing guests to feel at home while they work or unwind,” DuFresne notes.

Guest Bedroom & Bathroom: DuFresne’s expertise in creating cohesive, inviting spaces is showcased in the guest room. Wallpaper with an organic pattern establishes a visual connection to other areas of the home, while carefully selected bedding and stools introduce texture and dimension. In the adjoining bathroom, a deep blue quartz countertop makes a bold statement, complemented by an open shelf that contrasts beautifully with the crisp white vanity. DuFresne’s attention to detail is evident in the organic touches, such as the rich brown leaf-print artwork, while the scalloped mirror adds an elegant, traditional element. The large-format marble-look porcelain floor tiles and the tile wall treatment add another layer of sophistication, elevating the space to match the home’s overall high-end aesthetic. This thoughtful combination of elements results in a guest suite that perfectly balances luxury with comfort, ensuring a memorable stay for visitors.

“I had to reinvent my design style to align with the Florida-forward aesthetic, which leans toward a more modern, coastalinspired look,” states Jenifer DuFresne, the founder of Inside Eye Design.

DuFresne launched her design career 25 years ago in a different rental market, specializing in luxury ski-in/ski-out properties in Montana, where she focused on timber frame homes that embodied a mountain-elegant aesthetic. After a decade, she relocated to Sarasota, adapting her design approach to embrace a coastal style while maintaining her connection to nature. “I had to reinvent my design style to align with the Floridaforward aesthetic, which leans toward a more modern, coastal-inspired look,” she explains. “However, my passion remains rooted in that organic feel, characterized by natural textures such as wood, stone, leather, and organic materials like cotton and linen.” This evolution reflects her ability to blend functionality with beauty, ensuring that her designs resonate with the unique environments in which they exist. u

Natural elements are beautifully integrated throughout this home, from the warm wood accents to the striking stacked stone feature wall in the living area. An abundance of plants, organic wallpaper designs, and other nature-inspired touches further enrich this theme, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Despite the property’s designation as a rental, DuFresne is unwavering in her commitment to quality. She prioritizes durable materials and thoughtful design choices to ensure the home remains appealing to every guest. This meticulous approach creates a space that genuinely feels like a home, offering visitors the perfect blend of essential amenities and comfortable, relaxing surroundings. Each detail is carefully curated to provide an exceptional experience, allowing guests to unwind and enjoy their stay in style. “I love and value the personality of a home,” DuFresne says. “It’s who I am as a designer.” n

Outdoor Living: The outdoor living space is the crown jewel of this exceptional vacation home, offering ample seating for both dining and lounging, with design details that are as meticulously crafted as those found indoors. The ceiling features beautiful tongue-and-groove Synergy Wood, creating a cozy atmosphere that flows seamlessly across multiple outdoor areas on both levels of the home. One seating area is further enhanced by a living wall adorned with lush plants, showcasing DuFresne’s creative touch. Additionally, she incorporated porcelain tile into the ceiling sections, elevating the coastal vibe and adding a touch of elegance.

Rear Elevation & Pool: DuFresne emphasizes that the outdoor amenities are integral to the home’s original design and layout. The entire ground floor is dedicated to fun and activity, creating an inviting atmosphere for guests. The pool boasts a zero-entry, sandbar-style surface on one side, while a twisting waterslide provides an exhilarating descent from the second-floor lanai. The yard is thoughtfully designed with a putting green and ample lounging space, perfect for relaxation and entertainment. Layered landscaping featuring mature palm trees enhances the luxurious resort-like ambiance, making this outdoor area a true oasis for enjoyment and leisure.

SHIBUI AT BAYSO

ANCIENT AESTHETICS MEETS MODERN DESIGN IN THE NEW BAYSIDE CONDO

In this great room, Lead Interior Designer Adrienne Deiparine from Studio G Home elevates the serene gray and soft white color scheme with accents that bring vitality to the space. Textures from nature, fabrics, and wood patterns are carefully chosen to preserve a clean, uncluttered aesthetic and evoke a sense of Shibui. Embroidered throw pillows showcase a yellow ochre hue that appears again in the coffee table accessories, harmonizing with the warm honey tone of the oak found on the dining table, kitchen cabinetry, and media focal wall.

EEmbracing the Japanese concept of Shibui, which celebrates beauty through subtlety, the Shibui At Home showroom in downtown Sarasota serves as a sanctuary of simple, unobtrusive beauty. Dedicated to the art of celebrating nature, this showroom offers bespoke furnishings, textiles, and accessories. Wabi-Sabi, a closely related concept, finds beauty in imperfection and impermanence. When these Bayso Condominium clients visited the Shibui At Home showroom, they were captivated by these aesthetic principles, inspiring the interior design of their condo.

Lead Interior Designer Adrienne Deiparine from Studio G Home skillfully crafts a condo design for this couple that blends ancient aesthetics with modern styling, emphasizing warmth and comfort. Deiparine’s expertise is particularly evident in her integration of Shibui and Wabi-Sabi philosophies into the sleek lines of the modern building, using nature, texture, and subtle asymmetries to create an interior of understated elegance.

Deiparine fashions a refined entrance niche featuring kudu horns that serve as intriguing elements and epitomize Wabi-Sabi by celebrating the charm of aged materials. Additionally, thoughtful asymmetry, a monochromatic scheme, and minimalistic design collectively reflect the elegant expression inherent in Shibui. The color scheme effortlessly extends into the great room, where black emerges as a dominant accent, infusing the neutral palette with depth and dynamism. This strategic use of color exemplifies the holistic excellence of Deiparine’s design. She repeats the use of oak wood throughout the condo, incorporating hints of yellow ochre amid various shades of charcoal gray. This aesthetic is further enhanced by carefully chosen accessories, art, and textures, including fur, fabric, and biophilic touches. “We realized our client’s vision by creating a calming atmosphere,” shares Deiparine. “The design is well-balanced and unobtrusive, featuring color where it should be and life where it is needed, all contributing to a personal oasis.” u

Entry: A custom-built floating credenza, painted in Agreeable Gray by SherwinWilliams, spans the niche. Atop this functional landing zone, kudu horns showcase their stunning undulating shapes, reflected in a strategically placed mirror to create an asymmetrical display. Below, a Tibetan lamb skin ottoman adds rich texture to the setting. Not only does the pendant serve as the striking black accent of the entry, but it also features an unusual design with gem-shaped lights arranged to emit light in 360 degrees.

Living Room: A slatted oak focal wall extends to the ceiling, accentuating the room’s height and introducing a prominent natural material. Deiparine thoughtfully pairs the client’s existing low-profile sofas with rustically textured tables in an ebony stain, resting on this multidimensional area rug with a combination of loop and cut loop pile textures. Additionally, two cylindrical chairs add versatile seating, perfect for the living room or as extra spots at the dining table.

As a savvy, experienced designer, Deiparine works on-site with the electrician to meticulously place this free-form chandelier in the living room so that it offers just the right feeling. A stunning piece of art graces the space in the adjacent dining room, instilling this corner with rich, warm hues. Deiparine softens these spaces with floor-to-ceiling sheers and uses bouclé on the dining chairs to add texture and complexity to their simple Shibui-like forms.

The design philosophies carry to the primary bedroom, where Deiparine expresses thematic hues featuring shades of gray with touches of tan, taupe, and soft white. Furthermore, the room is a rich tapestry of texture and movement. Deiparine points out, “The nightstands, with their distinct graining and heavy distressing, showcase the Wabi-Sabi philosophy by celebrating the beauty and rustic patina characteristics found in the natural world.” u

Kitchen: Deiparine introduces an enchanting layer of movement to the space by selecting a matte white porcelain tile backsplash with a delicate wave pattern. This choice contrasts the glossy white cabinetry and the reflective white Caesarstone countertops. The counter stools, upholstered in luxurious cream bouclé, add a robust textural element, while their satin black legs elegantly echo the other black accents throughout the space, creating a sophisticated interplay of color and texture.

Dining Room: Artwork by Kader Boly, a celebrated artist at the Studio G Home and the Shibui At Home showrooms, showcases a captivating fusion of human and animal forms set against a vibrant palette of earthy tones. Deiparine selects this table and chairs for their unique forms, citing that the negative space of the furnishings is just as important as the positive space when creating the composition here. Above, the chandelier, suggestive of a fish shape, subtly nods to the condo’s bay-side setting.

Deiparine introduces a broad array of textures in the primary bedroom, elevating the room’s monochromatic scheme with the rustic grain of the nightstands topped with mosaic-clad table lamps. Texture and movement come alive on the finely woven SDH Fine European Linens bedding and the embossed wallcovering from Arte International. This wallpaper will grant the viewer a unique radiant experience depending on how the light shines.

Aligning with Studio G Home’s approach to design, Deiparine flourishes and embraces the Shibui aesthetic that delights her personally while adding to it her own style. “At Studio G Home, our designs reflect our expertise, infused with our passion to provide a personalized and heartfelt experience,” says Deiparine. “Each space is crafted not only to be seen but felt, imbuing a serene spirit and ensuring a profound impact on all who enter.” n

Powder Bath: “We added the backlit mirror to introduce another layer of light. This layering approach allows for varied lighting options to suit different moods,” Deiparine explains. Natural oak extends into the powder bath, enhancing the sense of continuity alongside the same driftwood-tone porcelain tile Deiparine uses in the main living spaces. This tile lines the shower in the powder bath, carrying this gentle hue vertically for an immersive and tranquil ambiance.

FABULOUS FINISHING TOUCHES

AMY LOU INTERIORS CURATES EXQUISITE DESIGN ELEMENTS IN A NEW CONSTRUCTION HOME IN THE ISLES

NNew homes exude an undeniable grandeur in the stunning community of The Isles, yet there is always potential for even more elegant touches. Enter Amy Lou Smith, President of Amy Lou Interiors, who was brought on to enhance the luxurious atmosphere of one such residence. The homeowners first discovered Smith’s exceptional work in the pages of Home & Design magazine, instantly drawn to her signature style.

“The client envisioned a space that would serve as a luxurious entertaining area that felt light, calm, and airy — a stark contrast to the dark colors of their primary home in the Northeast.” Smith says. “So, they wanted a different feeling here with a more calming palette. The couple wanted their home experience here in Florida to feel like a luxury hotel vibe, as if on a high-end vacation.” Smith meticulously crafted an environment where every detail harmoniously contributed to a serene and inviting atmosphere. u

Smith focused on key areas to achieve this five-star feel, starting with the great room, an extended space that required special attention. Collaborating with her husband’s company, Bayside Redesign, she transformed the living area by creating an impressive feature wall. What was once a simple floor-toceiling drywall is now the home’s main focal point, featuring a soaring 23-foot tall accent wall adorned with individually cut, one-inch wooden ribs and flanked by custom shelving. Above the modern, linear fireplace, a striking 10-foot-square backlit porcelain slab completes the design, elevating the space into a stunning centerpiece that embodies luxury and sophistication. u

The spacious layout of the room creates an inviting atmosphere, providing ample space between the living and kitchen areas for a stylish lounge. Ideal for these homeowners who love to entertain, this setting features lounge-style seating complemented by a bar backdrop for wine storage, glassware, and cocktail essentials. Bayside Redesign installed the smoked mirror with custom glass shelving in the sleek cabinetry. Swivel blue velvet chairs add a touch of elegance and encourage guests to engage with one another, seamlessly connecting the living room with the adjacent kitchen and dining areas.

Smith transformed the kitchen’s ambiance with upgraded pendant lights and premium counter seating, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. However, the most striking change occurred in the dining area, where the hand-painted Valhalla wallpaper, adorned with crystals, became the room’s stunning focal point. This exquisite wallpaper beautifully complements the linear crystal chandelier by Crystorama Lighting, enhancing the overall elegance of the space. The highly textured buffet from International Design Source features door panels inlaid with a resin pattern that resembles molten silver, finished with a light whitewash that adds a touch of sophistication. Further enriching the room’s aesthetic, patterned window treatments crafted from Jeffrey Michaels fabrics introduce layers of visual interest, culminating in a refined and harmonious dining experience.

To complete the luxury hotel ambiance, Smith extended her design expertise to the primary bedroom. She selected an elegant tone-on-tone wallpaper featuring an oversized print, creating a subtle yet striking backdrop. The tufted headboard from Essentials for Living adds a touch of opulence, while the sumptuous linen bedding from Wildcat Territory evokes the feel of a high-end resort. Continuing the theme of refined details, Smith incorporated custom window coverings throughout the space, serving as rich finishing touches. Carefully curated artwork from Uttermost adorns the walls, enhancing the room’s sophisticated atmosphere.

The overall design presents a refined interpretation of coastal living. “There’s a very neutral coastal palette,” Smith says. “They definitely love blue, so we wanted to use pops of it throughout, with the overall style being calming and sophisticated.” n

FROM RANCH TO REFINED

A MID-90s STYLE REVAMPED INTO A STUNNING TRANSITIONAL HOME FOR YEAR-ROUND LIVING

IInterior Designer Laura Honors, owner of Honors Interiors, capitalizes on the growing demand for vacation home renovations. However, she recently undertook a project in Bradenton for a couple planning to reside there full-time, although they wouldn’t move in until the home was ready. This project marked a shift in focus towards designing for individual homeowners rather than broader appeal, as the couple intended to bring minimal furniture and relocate only upon completion. The approach aligned perfectly with Honors’ expertise in comprehensive design and project management for clients living out of state. The primary distinction in this case was to consider everyday living in the design process. To enhance the project, Honors collaborated with Andrew Deme, President of Blu Construction, to offer a concierge-level service.

The home boasts a classic Florida stucco facade, enhanced by decorative faux quoin detailing at the corners, low-profile rooflines, and graceful arches. The team opted to paint the exterior a single shade — creamy taupe — to allow the quoin details to subtly recede. To add a modern touch, they selected new, nearly black windows. Inside, however, the home embraces a completely different aesthetic — understated coastal, as Honors describes it. Originally, the walls were covered in warm yellowish beiges, while the floors featured glossy, red-hued wood. u

Kitchen: One major concern for the homeowners was the lack of flow in their house, particularly in the kitchen, which featured an awkward peninsula, unattractive soffits, and an unusable corner. The newly redesigned space, featuring modified Shaker-style cabinetry from Progressive Cabinetry, is now both functional and elegant, harmonizing with the rest of the home. However, challenges arose during construction, including an issue with the range wall’s plumbing that required a redesign. “There was existing plumbing in that wall that we couldn’t relocate,” Deme explains. “Because of that, we had to do some slight redesign, while thinking about when we reduce cabinet depth, how that will affect the drawers, interior drawer space, and roller drawers.” Maintaining the clean look of the original design was essential, so extending the cabinetry wasn’t feasible. Most of the appliances from Mullet’s Appliances are paneled, with the oven and microwave designed to appear as a single unit. The quartz slab countertops, textured backsplash tile, and intricate beaded pendants add rich texture and visual interest to the room.

Dining Room (Previous Spread): Recognizing the potential to enhance light reflection and create a more expansive, airy feel, Honors proposed constructing a soaring mirrored wall in place of the original buffet niche in the dining room design. “I knew when I walked in there, that wall was a perfect space to reflect light,” she explains. Consequently, the team expanded the laundry room’s width on the opposite side of the wall, eliminating the niche. The area now accommodates a Four Hands dining table with eight chairs, two of which serve dual purposes as desk chairs in the guest bedrooms. Additionally, Honors decided to seal off a large opening that previously connected the dining area to the kitchen, resulting in improved kitchen functionality. Beyond the laundry room, accessible through the metal and glass doors, lies one of the two dedicated home offices. Warm gray wood-look tile flows throughout the home, taking the place of the original glossy, red-toned wood flooring.

Family Room: Before the renovations, entering through the front door to the right of what is now the second office revealed a wall that obstructed the view of the family room. The new design features a shortened wall that enhances light flow throughout the home’s central area and provides ample space for two luxurious blue velvet sofas from Rowe Furniture, contrasting the previous neutral palette that included two chairs and two coffee tables. The design team eliminated an arched niche to create a fresh, clean aesthetic, while Honors chose a Bedrosians tile with a subtle pattern for a playful yet understated addition to the space. Initially, the wall niche served no purpose, but Honors transformed it into a custom built-in for books and family photos, with a closed bottom that conceals extensive internet cables for the home offices.

Breakfast Nook: Among the few pieces the homeowners brought from their northern residence were the high-top table and chairs in the breakfast nook. Fortunately, their tones and jute elements beautifully compliment the overall color scheme and textures of the design. Honors selected a striking Arteriors light fixture for this space, positioning it at the same height as the kitchen island pendants. These thoughtful details contribute to a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design, ensuring that no single element overshadows the others.

Today, the color scheme is elegant and predominantly monochromatic, accented with hints of black, which enables the enchantment to arise from layers and texture. “For example, take the dramatic mirror wall in the dining room,” Honors says. “All of the trim matches the baseboard — it’s all the same color, so it’s like levels of texture without going over the top. Monochromatic palettes with a little bit of black, a little bit of warm white, and layered texture in a monochromatic way are popular in northern design where the homeowners are from.”

With strategic modifications to the floor plan and innovative space planning, Honors and Deme crafted a stunning feature wall in the dining room, an inviting living area, and an expansive kitchen, all while fulfilling the homeowners’ requirement for two dedicated office spaces without sacrificing a bedroom. Deme is particularly wowed by the living room.

“The built-in cabinetry, fireplace, and mantle, along with the furniture in that area, are all superbly designed and executed,” he says. “It’s simply a stunning space.“ u

The home has been transformed into an elegant environment tailored to the homeowners’ lifestyle. Honors notes, “Clients can’t always envision how the layers of texture are going to work out and not look boring with a neutral palette. But they trusted Andrew and me right from the beginning. So, we were able to run with all our ideas, which was amazing, and I think that’s ultimately why it came out so wonderful.” n

Primary Bathroom: The design team opted to retain the glass blocks in the primary bathroom, which complement those in the bedroom, as they allow ample light while ensuring privacy. They replaced the outdated soaking tub with a spacious shower featuring multiple shower heads. Wave-textured tiles in shades of blue are installed vertically, offering a distinctive touch compared to the conventional horizontal layout. At the homeowners’ request, Honors selected floating cabinetry from Progressive Cabinetry for a vanity lower than the standard height. The Pompeii countertop seamlessly extends into the shower, forming a custom bench. Additionally, vertically installed subway tiles enhance the height behind the round mirrors. Thanks to the abundant natural light and overhead illumination, Honors was able to incorporate elegant glass sconces at the vanity.

Primary Bedroom: Like the rest of the house, the bedrooms feature a gentle, neutral color scheme enriched with a variety of patterns and textures. The design team chose to incorporate a coastal blue in the custom doors, using Sherwin-Williams’ Open Air paint at 50 percent opacity to infuse the home with a hint of blue. “The doors are custom TruStile doors with a solid one-and-three-quarter-inch core, mounted on heavy-duty ball-bearing chrome Baldwin Hardware hinges. They’ve been installed with precision,” Deme noted. “Nothing compares to the operation of a well-made heavy door with quality hardware.” The space is further enhanced with ample texture from the bed, a Serena & Lily rug, and rope pendants. Honors selected a barely-there wallpaper from Pepper Home that matches the wall color. “It’s the same color as the walls in the house, so when you’re in the space, it’s just an added level of texture,” she says.

Guest Bedroom: At the end of the hallway, adjacent to the pool bath, the guest bedroom is one area where Honors chose to embrace a bolder approach in terms of texture and color contrast. “In their minds, it was an afterthought, this second guest room,” she says. “In my head, it was the perfect spot to do a themed guest space.” While the room maintains a relatively neutral palette, the Serena & Lily wallpaper, the artwork, along with the blue textured lamp and patterned rug, collectively create a striking coastal ambiance.

PERFECTLY PAIRED

OWNERS OF MCKINLAY ROSE INTERIORS ARE AN IDEAL MATCH FOR EACH OTHER AND THEIR CLIENTS

KKristen McKinlay and Melanie Rose met in college but became close several years later while working at the same design firm. Even though the company didn’t initially assign them to the same projects, the women realized they had a compatible work style and decided to collaborate. “She dotted my i’s, and I crossed her t’s,” Rose says. The relationship proved fortuitous. As colleagues and friends, they established McKinlay Rose Interiors over eight years ago. They recently expanded their business to South Florida with an Interior Design Studio and Market Boutique, covering over 3,500 square feet in the heart of South Tampa’s prestigious Hyde Park. u

Entry: Entering the condo through 8-foot decorative paneled doors reveals a thoughtfully designed space. The chosen wallpaper adds texture and dimension to the long hallway. A series of mirrors reflect the light from flush-mount lighting and the glowing urn-style tabletop fixtures on the four-door white and pewter silver geometric credenza.

Living Room: The home’s overall palette is monochromatic, but the designers incorporated various shades of blue to accommodate the wife’s preference and enhance the coastal feel. A hand-tufted rug adds ample color and texture and grounds the living area of the open-concept room. The designers avoid matching furnishings, preferring a curated look with complementary lines and materials. Two blue armchairs sit opposite a regal, sculptural chair with nail-head detailing. Several high-end artificial plants throughout the home bring in natural elements for a lived-in vibe without needing maintenance.

Dining Room: To complement the clean lines of the driftwood-look dining table, the designers opted for upholstered dining chairs with flared legs, adding a touch of softness to the overall aesthetic. “We try to pick some things that have movement or great legs, such as the dining chairs,” McKinlay explains. “The way they’re flaring out a little gives them a little more feminine quality.” Another hand-selected light fixture brings sophistication and glamour to the space, complementing the materials and shapes of the pendants above the nearby kitchen island.

Today, the firm provides full-service residential design, covering everything from planning and creativity to project management and installation. They excel at transforming homes into inviting spaces that clients never want to leave while maintaining a passion for the design process. Their approach seamlessly combines functionality with luxury. The firm’s success is attributed to strong partnerships, efficient systems, and advanced technology. “We have a wonderful process as far as communicating our vision to our clients, meaning we can present to them through the software that we use — a very visual concept — and a price for how much the project will cost them,” McKinlay says. “We buy direct from market, so we have more than three hundred and fifty vendors we’re curating from.” u

Kitchen: Hyde Park House condominiums feature high-end appliances and cabinetry. The designers at McKinlay Rose Interiors enhanced the luxury of the space with iridescent mother-of-pearl backsplash tiles, upgraded cabinet hardware, and elegant pendant lighting over the large island with a waterfall countertop. Counter stools with velvet upholstery and gently curved backs soften the linear space, providing a refined touch.

McKinlay Rose Interiors was chosen as the recommended designer for the prestigious Hyde Park House condominiums following a rigorous selection process. A young couple who recently retired from Michigan engaged the firm to craft a vibrant, coastal-inspired design for their new Florida condo. They desired a space that seamlessly blended high-end style with practical livability for their family, including their beloved puppy, and favored comfortable and inviting furniture. The designers honed in on custom details that would make the condo stand out while mirroring the homeowners’ personal aesthetic.

The design team has crafted a stunning entryway featuring impactful lighting and mirrors that enhance the sense of space. A custom fireplace wall adorned with Dolomite marble tile in the family room adds character and luxury. Throughout the condo, sensational custom lighting brightens every area. As McKinlay explains, “We curate all the finishing touches with each design we do.” Clients appreciate this approach because additional layers are often needed for a complete look after the main furnishings are in place. With their attention to detail, no space is ever left unfinished. n

En Suite Bathroom: This primary bathroom features a stunning frameless shower equipped with a hand-held shower set, a rain head, body sprays, and a luxurious soaking tub with a sleek, modern silhouette. The design team added a round rug and installed striking pendant lights with shades crafted from staggered natural selenite ribs to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, white ceramic wall art introduces texture and dimension, beautifully reflecting throughout the space in the mirrors.

Primary Suite: This calming bedroom features soft colors, gentle lines, and cozy textures, all in perfect harmony, highlighted by plush linen bedding. The headboard has a subtle wing shape with flowing curves and tufted details. The bed’s exposed silver wood frame complements the nightstands and dresser, which have soft metallic accents. A geometrically patterned wallpaper contrasts with its fading design, enhancing the room’s peaceful atmosphere.

Guest En Suite & Guest Bedroom: The guest bedroom doubles as the husband’s office, featuring an elegant desk and a comfortable chair for work. Guests enjoy ultimate comfort in the luxurious en suite, which boasts a queen-sized bed dressed in sumptuous linen bedding. A ceiling fan with a light fixture provides illumination and a refreshing breeze. The adjoining bathroom is enhanced by a serene selenite pendant light and a stylish beaded-edge mirror, adding a touch of sophistication to this inviting space.

Library: The design team transformed an extra bedroom into a captivating library for the homeowners. This space features a rich blend of textures, highlighted by patterned wallpaper and a silverspeckled hide rug. A striking German silver and mirrored console adds a touch of elegance, while the space-age chandelier, with its arched arms and frosted globes, introduces a modern flair. “We are known for our lighting plans, but here we did a mirror installation to create reflection and open the entrance space, creating a feeling of more windows and making the space feel more inviting,” McKinlay says. “We’re pulling in the artistic side of who we are and pushing the element of surprise.”

Outdoor Living: Hyde Park House condominiums feature expansive terraces with 48 feet of continuous, unobstructed views with glass balcony railings designed to optimize natural lighting and showcase sweeping treetop, city, and water views. Outdoor rope-style and upholstery chairs offer comfortable seating accompanied by blue accent tables.

LABOR OF LOVE

A WIFE PUSHES FORWARD WITH A CONDO REMODEL HER LATE HUSBAND LOVINGLY STARTED FOR HER

RRenovations can be stressful, but when this homeowner’s husband met an untimely end during the project, his widower pushed forward. “They were both getting ready for retirement, and he wanted to renovate this unit as a gift to her,” says Todd Yeomans, Principal Architect with Yeomans Work Architecture. Amid her grief and stress, Yeomans, along with Design Consultant Kathy Wright and Interior Designer Ana Santa Maria, brought her husband’s wish to fruition. u

Yeomans also provides architectural services plus custom cabinetry and millwork under the name Yeomans Work Cabinetry, and he showcased his expertise in this Sunset Towers residence. Three main objectives included maximizing the views of the bay and Ringling Bridge; creating a larger, open kitchen; and eliminating the claustrophobic feeling from the low ceiling height.

Yeomans contemplated how to infuse a distinctive touch into the heart of the unit while pushing the eye toward the views. “Then, one morning, upon quiet reflection, it came to me. We created this concept with the beams — they taper from one end to the other and then switch directions going the other way. No matter where you’re standing in the space, your experience of it changes, and you get this twisted, slightly curved dynamic depending on your vantage point.”

The ceiling over the living room is equally unique, with glossy cabinet panels wrapped in channel lighting. The kitchen has seating for four at a large island, plus bench seating along the window wall. It lives large thanks to Yeomans’ custom cabinetry with horizontal grain and creatively designed storage.

“The seamless collaboration between the three of us makes it hard to tell where one person’s ideas stopped and the other one started,” Yeomans says. The completed home certainly offers no hints. n

More Space Place Suncoast has been locally owned and operated for over 25 years, proudly serving the Sarasota area. Our reputation is built on hard work, with more than half of our business coming from referrals and repeat customers. Many team members, including our dedicated installers, have been with us for decades.

When you visit our stores, you’ll see our commitment to helping you maximize your space beautifully and custom-designed. Our ability to bring your vision to life sets us apart, creating furniture tailored to your measurements and style. We have thousands of photos of completed installations to inspire you. Each store features an “Inspiration Station,” where you can brainstorm with our designers and take home color samples. u

MORE SPACE PLACE

Creating a multipurpose room is just the beginning. Whether you’re downsizing or optimizing your space, we have the solution for you! In this project, the client chose the popular Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore color. We provided the unfinished materials, and her husband painted them before we installed the handles and accessories. The result is a stunning room that serves as both an office and a guest room. u

At More Space Place, we manufacture our products in Florida, ensuring the shortest lead times in the industry. While we are the #1 Murphy bed retailer in the U.S., we also design custom closets, entertainment centers, laundry rooms, garages, pantries, and home offices. Our diverse product line includes over 400 options, with color combinations to match your personal style and various door styles ranging from traditional to modern. n

TALON HOME BUILDERS

From its crisp white coastal contemporary façade to its soft organic finishes, this home exudes tranquility. As you approach, the gentle waft of incense seems to whisper promises of coziness and zen-like serenity. This peaceful retreat is ideally situated on a Longboat Key canal, offering waterfront living with direct access to the stunning Sarasota Bay and various exceptional waterfront dining options.

Designed and built by Talon Home Builders, this elevated, open-concept living environment boasts 2,746 square feet of conditioned space across two floors. The main living level features a luxurious Primary Retreat, while the upper floor houses inviting guest suites and a serene yoga studio. u

At the heart of the home, the gourmet kitchen showcases top-of-the-line appliances, a convenient pot filler, custom cabinetry, and a large island topped with sleek quartz. A spacious walk-in pantry and an elegant wine and spirits bar enhance the kitchen’s functionality and sophistication. Beautiful engineered hardwood floors flow throughout the home, complemented by clean, lightly textured walls that add charm and depth. Subtle pops of pastel accent colors creatively capture the essence of island life, infusing each room with a sense of coastal chic.

The expansive outdoor living area is an enchanting space for relaxation and entertainment. The covered lanai, complete with a built-in outdoor kitchen and dining area, provides the perfect vantage point for hosting guests. Whether lounging by the fireplace or taking a dip in the pool, the natural scenery serves as a stunning backdrop. The natural shell stone deck adds another layer of luxury to this custom home, offering homeowners and guests a beachfront feel without ever leaving the property. u
