Settling in at The Holy Family School When you come to your new school, you will be made very welcome by the teachers and pupils. We are a very friendly school and we want all of our pupils to be happy here. If you are worried about anything at all, the best thing to do is to tell one the teachers about it when you come to visit.

This is the main entrance to the school office.

When you come for your very first visit, the school might look really big and you might worry that you will not be able to find your way around. Don’t worry! You will be given a ‘floor plan’ of the school. You will find this very useful, as it will help you to find your way around. Julia Hobson and Janet Cale ASC Support Staff.

Uniform As you may already know, we have a very smart uniform at The Holy Family School. Pupils are encouraged to take pride in the way they look and wearing a uniform will make you feel proud to be a member of our school.

Student Planner. When you come to The Holy Family School, you will be given a Student Planner. This will be your own personal diary for you to plan and record things in. This is a picture of last years planner. Each year the design on the front cover changes, so your new planner may be different to this one!

There are pages in the planner for you to write your own timetables in, like this.

It is a good idea to do this in pencil as sometimes changes are made, but don’t worry, as someone will explain this to you if it happens.

Timetables It may be that you have never used a timetable before. Don’t worry, they are easy to understand once you get used to them. Timetables give you information about your lessons and the rooms they will be in.

This is a Year 7 timetable and your timetable may be very similar to this. Week 1 P1

Mrs. Ward.

Mrs. Ward also has an important job. She is there to make sure you are happy in your new school and that if you need any extra help, you will get it.

The Learning Support Unit (L.S.U.)

This room is a very popular with a lot of our pupils! As it’s name suggests, it is a place you may need to go to, with a teaching assistant, if you need to work quietly away from your usual teaching group. There are also computers, so work can be printed out if necessary.

It is sometimes used by pupils who find it difficult to work in noisy lessons, or maybe to do a test. It is a very friendly place and if ever you have any problems at all, it is the ideal place to go to ask for help.

The Lunchtime Club This club takes place in the L.S.U. every lunchtime. It is possible to eat your packed lunch in the L.S.U. if you really do not want to go into the main Dining Hall. If you think you might like to do this, just ask Mrs. Ward and she will tell you all about it.

A lot of our pupils like to draw or just sit and chat, so it is a good place to make friends and have fun. You can also use the computers to help you with your homework.
