The Four Keys of Faith Formation

The Four Keys are provided to help you nourish your child’s / grandchild’s faith.

Scripture Readings for the Tenth Weekend after Pentecost: Exodus 16:2-4,9-15; Psalm 78:23-29; Ephesians 4:1-16; John 6:24-35

Family Devotions: Read the text from Ephesians. As Christians, we are unified and diverse. Our unity consists in the one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God. our diversity is expressed in various forms of ministry, whose goal is equipping the saints and building up Christ’s one body. Talk about the gifts you see in one another. Share, too, ways you have witnessed those gifts at work (at home, school, church, etc.).

Caring Conversation: The readings reflect God’s faithfulness and provision for his people in times of need. Share with your child a time when God has provided for you. How / where does God provide for us in worship? How is that provision shown in the life death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

Family Service: As Lutherans, we believe that we respond to what we have heard through the Good News of Jesus Christ – for you, for the forgiveness of sins. Good works (good fruit) happen, and we do not even know about it. As parents, you can “create” opportunities for your kids to learn about service, with the understanding that service is not a “have-to” or a key to salvation. Think about the Scripture verses for the week and the conversations you have shared. God has gifted you and your children with abilities and gifts. As a parent, family member, or friend, you can help them discover their unique gifts by encouraging them in the things that they do well and feel passionate that they can serve others. Family Traditions & Rituals: Make bread together as family. Make enough that you can share it together at a meal, but also so that you can share with a neighbor or a friend.

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR THE WEEK: JOHN 6:35 (NIRV)

“Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever go hungry. And no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty.’”
