HOLLYHOCK EXISTS TO INSPIRE, NOURISH, AND SUPPORT PEOPLE MAKING THE WORLD BETTER

2

Hollyhock…a gathering place long before our time. Lifelong learning, leadership, personal and practical skill building, weaving webs. Sharing stories and lives lived with challenges, intensity, hope, hopelessness and love. From the founders' first days here, there has been a dream and much effort and work dedicated to protecting this land and keeping it a place where nature lives alongside us humans. A place of peace and celebration. This year, Hollyhock’s 35th, we will have secured protective covenants for this land some call magical, special, a haven, an incubator—where real conversations and good progress prevails.

As generations advance forward and the leadership baton is passed along, Nature is and will be our master teacher. May the next ones remember to ask questions, be respectful and kind, offer opportunities and deeply consider their responsibility. Be wise. May this land bless and support all who come here to teach, to learn, to pray and to honour each other. Fierce loyalty to a fair and just future…

HISTORY The Hollyhock land was a summer gathering place of the Coast Salish people. The early 20th century saw a homesteader family, followed by Cold Mountain centre in the 1970s. In 1982, a group of friends founded Hollyhock and 26 years later donated ownership into the Hollyhock charity. The tall red flowers from the original garden inspired the name. Find the whole story, which includes a gypsy fortune-teller, at hollyhock.ca/ourstory. TODAY Hollyhock is a near-mythical mecca of learning and leadership. Far from daily pressures, there is no place like Hollyhock to reconnect with passion and purpose while gaining unique skills. The not-for-profit campus offers extraordinary lifelong learning programs to advance consciousness, connection and cultural transformation. FUTURE Hollyhock’s Forever Fund is the key to permanently securing our transformational campus for tomorrow’s leaders. Join the vision (page 30).

For those of us who will, come what may, fail to live forever, what instruction does our pursuit of ‘be all you can be’ whisper as we die? It whispers, ‘No worries. There’s no real death.’ But there is. This is a day to practice the crazed wisdom and radical etiquette of the ending of days, which is our human birthright.

Science sheds new light on many spiritual practices, including rituals, pilgrimages, meditation, chanting and rites of passage. Explore spiritual traditions through reconnecting with the natural world, and through singing, listening, looking, telling stories, thinking, and having fun.

Rediscover the magic, excitement and aliveness of loving partnership. Break free from negative habits and learn the practices of authenticity, self-responsibility, empathy, boundaries, deep listening, problem solving and sacred sexuality. Take home profound tools to support your life as a couple.
