Key Stage 4 Homework Allocations – From April 2016

Homework Expectations

Art

Homework is set to reflect the 4 main elements of the course – Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver. Students are set a range of different tasks under these headings.

Business Studies

Students will be required to complete research and preexposure tasks prior to undertaking theory components or controlled assessment in class. Students will receive, on average, 3 of these tasks each half-term, and will be expected to spend a minimum of 1 hour familiarising themselves with the topic set.

Catering

Homework is set every one to two weeks and should take at least 15 minutes. The homework tasks vary depending on the module of work being covered. Students are expected to plan and provide ingredients for practical sessions. During Controlled Assessment the homework tasks set will be based around research, planning dishes, costing and nutritional analysis.

English

A minimum of one piece of homework will be given to students each week. This should last around 30 minutes however this may vary depending on the task set as students will be given a range of examination style questions.

Geography

Homework is set at least once a fortnight. Tasks set take between 15 minutes and one hour to complete.

Health and Social Care

Approximately 30 minutes of homework is set each week. The type of task set varies according to the unit of work being studied.

History

Homework is set every one to two weeks and depending on the task set is expected to take between 15 minutes and one hour to complete. Tasks set will include reflective summaries of key learning, research activities, answering past GCSE questions and the creation of revision materials. During Controlled Assessment the homework tasks set will be based around research and planning activities.

ICT

Year 10 students undertaking Computer Science or GCSE ICT may be asked to work at the end of the Academy day to complete extra/supporting activities to support their controlled assessment. Year 11 students will be expected to work through their revision guides and check their understanding of key topics. Tasks will be set during each topic to check understanding.
