Thebby is an iconic and historic treasure that hosts a wide variety of events. Thebby is considered the premier venue for concerts, events, and comedy performances in Adelaide and is one of Australia’s favourite venues. We host several indoor and outdoor bars, and one of the best lighting displays of any venue in Australia.

HOLDEN STREET THEATRES (HST)

We are known as the ‘Home of Theatre’ during Fringe and we’re proud to announce we’ve just got a little bigger. With the addition of 32 Holden Street into our family we’ve created the ‘Holden Street Theatres’ Arts Park’. Now there is a hub for artists to relax, collaborate, develop and perform their art. The Arts Park will encourage and nourish the arts industry in SA, and help grow local artists.

34 HOLDEN STREET, HINDMARSH Next to Coopers Stadium FREE PARKING AVAILABLE (soccer dates available from our website) Bus route from the city 115, 117, 118 to stop 6 on Manton Street, Hindmarsh

We are recognised globally as a leader in the South Australian arts community, and strive to encourage local and international productions to be active within Adelaide’s theatre scene. Our HST Edinburgh Fringe Award is the only award to offer a tour to Australia, and our HST Adelaide Fringe Award assists a local artist or company to produce work and develop their practice. HST are proud to support classical theatre, new work, and burgeoning talent. We are 6 minutes from the city with an easy walk from the free tram near the Entertainment Centre…and we have an amazing wine list, delicious food, lovely outdoor and indoor bars and a gorgeous garden.

THEATRE / SA

That Boy

Tom is 8, cheeky and out of control. Mum’s inherited coping mechanisms don’t work and for a boy who “isn’t bad enough to be diagnosed”, there isn’t any support. Change is unmanageable in a crisis so now it’s survival. For Sarah, there must be light at the end of the tunnel, at any cost. Parenting is hard, there’s no rule book, no one is perfect, she gave birth to him so she knows best and he knows she loves him, she told him so. A darkly satirical, beautiful, raw, human story of one mother’s fight to break the cycle of inherited behaviour and save her son. Based on true life events, That Boy will challenge the audience to question what is acceptable in today’s changing world. Initial concept by Martha Lott, developed with Lyn Pike and dramaturge Anne Bookman. Adapted for stage by Martha Lott, Yasmin Gurreeboo and Nescha Jelk with Meg Wilson, Sascha Budimski, Nicholas Ely, Francois Piron and the Holden Street Team. Please be advised this show includes references to Suicide/Self-Harm.

The Twins

Two old school friends, come back together forty years after playing the twins in Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, to rework it as a twohander. A heart breaking and hilarious new play about trust; remembering and forgetting to remember; loss; regret; love; pain and glory. Their lives took different paths; they are now reunited, but who is playing who? Are they who they say they are and should any of that matter? And once you’ve let go of your dreams, is there ever really any way back? It’s about fathers and the shadows they leave, the labels we give to others and ourselves and the burden and guilt these two friends carry as a result. An achingly honest account that sees privilege and heroin joined at the hip. Please be advised this show contains distressing themes, drug references and coarse language.

Mike doesn’t believe Loser for a second because he’s always concocting stories to make himself look good. But one day at school, Loser is pushed too far by Budgie and Jordie. This time the humiliation and teasing is too much, and Loser seeks revenge. He smashes a test tube in class, a test tube that he says contains a deadly virus from the “Tenterfield” property. When the teacher and students begin having seizures, Mike and Jazz realise that perhaps Lance really was telling the truth…This thriller is the premier stage adaption of Jackie French’s iconic Australian novel.
