Information for test users Purchasing qualifications The assessments and training courses in this catalogue are intended for use by properly qualified professionals. Sales of test materials are restricted to those with the necessary training, education and experience, as outlined by relevant professional bodies such as the British Psychological Society. Hogrefe uses levels 1, 2 and 3 to describe the training and/or experience necessary to purchase materials. You will find these qualification levels throughout this catalogue and on our website; please use them as a guide and contact us should you need further clarification.

Level 1 All books and most test manuals sold by Hogrefe are set at level 1. No specific qualifications are required in order to purchase these materials. Level 2 The majority of clinical and educational assessment materials sold by Hogrefe are set at level 2. In order to be qualified at level 2 you must have: • certified training and experience in a relevant discipline • membership of a professional organisation appropriate to the focus of the test; and/or • evidence of competence in the use of psychological tests. Level 3 This level requires: • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist and/or is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. Individuals must also have the protected titles of Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist or Educational Psychologist. • For access to ADOS-2, ADI-R, the Rorschach, or Griffiths III, users will be asked to provide the relevant training certificate or will be checked against a database of qualified users.

A UK-normed global cognitive assessment of the ‘whole child’, unparalleled in its ability to identify their knowledge, strengths, and developmental needs in one complete picture. Griffiths Scales of Child Development, Third Edition (Griffiths III)

A comprehensive, child-friendly developmental measure. Based on cutting-edge research and theory, the Griffiths III represents an evolution in developmental assessment that builds on the best of the past. The Griffiths III is designed for continuous use from birth to 6 years (72 months). It is the product of a thorough re-standardisation of the Griffiths Mental Development Scales (GMDS) – described as the ‘gold standard’ in child development testing.

The assessment The Griffiths III provides an overall measure of children’s development, as well as an individual profile of strengths and needs across five areas: • foundations of learning • language and communication • eye and hand coordination • personal–social–emotional • gross motor

The standardisation was conducted by the Association for Research in Infant and Child Development (ARICD) using a representative sample from the UK and Ireland. The Griffiths III combines norms for the 0 to 2 and 2+ cohorts to allow for seamless assessment. The norms also address the ‘Flynn effect’ and minimise cultural bias.

What’s new in the Griffiths III? The Griffiths III takes the best from previous editions and builds on them. A substantially improved kit, more than 80% of the Griffiths III was redesigned to create a modern assessment in line with the latest developmental, paediatric, psychological and neurological research. Clinician feedback was also taken into account, and the administration sequence was streamlined to be straightforward and practical for test users. Denver II Developmental Screening Test (Denver II)

Aims to support healthcare providers assessing development in young children. The Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) was revised and re-standardised, giving rise to the Denver II, which provides a more relevant and thorough test to screen for developmental delays. The assessment The Denver II is divided into 4 general areas of development consisting of 125 items (compared to the DDST’s 105). The number of language items has increased from 21 to 39, an important objective in revising the test. The latest edition also includes a scale for rating the child’s behavioural characteristics.

The Denver II materials include a test kit containing items conveniently packed into a compact carrying bag. The record form is laid out in such a way that the test user can compare an individual child’s performance with the standardised group. Over 1,000 cases were tested in the restandardisation, and the percentage of children in each age group who passed each item was calculated. The test-retest reliability over a oneweek period is .95 and the reliability amongst examiners averages .90. Also available Denver II Training DVD and Denver II Administration DVD

Cattell’s Fluid Intelligence Test, Scale 2 (CFT 20-R)

A test of non-verbal ability for use with children and adolescents. The CFT 20-R is a test of non-verbal ability for use with children and adolescents aged from 8 years and 6 months to 17 years. Because it does not rely on language knowledge or cultural background, this test is particularly useful where the fair assessment of children and adolescents from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds is required. The exercises in the CFT 20-R use graphics so that those with impaired or reduced language skills are not at a disadvantage, and the demographic information included in the new UK-specific norms group ensures its widespread applicability.

The assessment The CFT 20-R has a long and impressive history. Originally developed by influential psychologist Raymond Cattell and published as the Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFT), Cattell’s goal was to develop a test which would measure intellectual potential in its purest form – reducing as much as possible the influence of environmental and educational factors which may interfere with scores on ability and indeed with everyday life. The result is a test that taps into the test taker’s ‘fluid intelligence’, a term coined by Cattell to describe the capacity to think logically and solve problems in novel situations. Fluid intelligence operates independently of acquired knowledge and is considered to be largely unaffected by both cultural biases and educational level.

Adaptive Intelligence Diagnosticum, Third Edition (AID 3)

Measures complex as well as basic cognition in a uniquely adaptive format. AID 3 is a test battery for use with children and adolescents that provides a clear profile across several abilities, such as verbal and manual. It applies adaptive item selection according to the test taker’s level of proficiency for ten subtests and one add-on test, allowing for high accuracy of measurement using relatively few items. The assessment The twelve subtests and five add-on tests of AID 3 are designed to measure specifically defined abilities in a unique format. The core subtests involve ‘verbal-acoustic’ and ‘manual-visual’ tasks, and some subtests can be administered in different formats and thus be adapted to suit the

situation. By default, in ten of the subtests (and one add-on test) item groups are administered step by step in a way that adapts to the test taker’s performance. Conventional testing is also possible, which can be tailored to the test taker if desired. Five subtests (and one add-on test) may even be administered (adaptively) as short forms, and there are parallel forms for eight subtests in case a second test administration takes place after a short period of time. AID 3 is applicable in educational psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, occupational and educational consulting, and for test takers whose first language is not English.

SON-R 2-8 Non-Verbal Intelligence Test

Measures general intelligence in children, with subtests measuring abstract and concrete reasoning, spatial ability and visual perception. The SON-R 2-8 requires no verbal or written instructions, making it ideally suited to children with a hearing impairment, learning difficulties or language and verbal communication barriers. As an adaptive test, the SON-R 2-8 can be carried out rapidly without compromising its reliability. Written and spoken language are not required, and the adaptive format helps to both assess and motivate the test taker. Feedback is given throughout the test, allowing the child to alter their strategies and enabling the test user to easily omit tasks deemed too easy or difficult.

The assessment The subtests can be grouped into two types: reasoning tests (Categories, Analogies and Situations) and spatial performance tests (Mosaics, Puzzles and Patterns). In the reasoning tests, the correct solution is chosen from a number of given alternatives. However, perceptual, spatial and reasoning ability play a role in all of the subtests. The spatial performance tests are named accordingly because the item is solved by manipulating the test stimuli. Scoring and analysis software is supplied with the kit. After the raw scores, test date and date of birth are entered, the standardised scores are calculated and a profile sheet can be printed out. The standardised scores are based on the exact age of the test taker.

SON-R 6-40 Non-Verbal Intelligence Test (Revised)

Assesses a broad spectrum of cognitive abilities without involving the use of language. The SON-R 6-40 uses a range of abstract and deductive reasoning tasks to determine general intelligence levels – without the need for verbal or written instructions. This makes it suitable for those with a hearing impairment, learning difficulties or language and verbal communication barriers, and normative data is available for up to 40 years of age. As an adaptive test, the SON-R 6-40 assessment can be administered quickly without compromising its reliability. Written and spoken language are not required, and the adaptive format helps to both assess and motivate the test taker. Feedback is given throughout the test, allowing the test taker to alter their strategies and enabling the test user to easily omit tasks deemed too easy or difficult.

The assessment There are 124 items, arranged into four subtests: • Analogies: using abstract and deductive reasoning, test takers must determine the principle of change in comparable figures; • Mosaics: test takers are tested on their performance when recreating mosaic patterns in a frame using red and white squares; • Categories: from a series of five separate pictures, test takers must use abstract reasoning to choose two that share a theme; and • Patterns: test takers must use spatial reasoning and visuomotor skills to fill in the missing piece of a pattern. The SON-R 6-40 is easily scored using the convenient software package. Points from 1 to 19 are awarded for each of the four subtests. A standardised total sample with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15 is then calculated (total IQ).

Academic Achievement Battery (AAB) Standard Form

Delivers a quick measure of basic academic skills, including a reading comprehension subtest. This version of the AAB measures basic reading, maths, spelling, and reading comprehension quickly and thoroughly for an accurate overview of the test taker’s academic skills. The AAB is ideal for evaluating fundamental academic skills during an initial evaluation, reevaluation, or when working with those referred for learning, behaviour or vocational concerns.

Academic Achievement Battery (AAB) Comprehensive Form

Assesses seven areas of achievement throughout the lifespan. The AAB is a complete achievement assessment for use with individuals throughout the lifespan, offering a comprehensive battery of tests. It can be used to help to differentiate performance in individuals with various learning disabilities, intellectual developmental disorders, ADHD and/ or speech and language impairment. The assessment The Comprehensive Form can be administered in 90 minutes and scored in 15 minutes. It provides a total score, giving an overview of the test taker’s overall performance as well as a skills analysis which allows for the investigation of strengths and weaknesses.

Also available: The Screening Form can be administered in 15 to 30 minutes and scored in 5 to 10 minutes. This provides a snapshot of the test taker’s performance in reading, spelling, writing and maths, and is appropriate for evaluating fundamental academic skills during an initial evaluation, during re-evaluation or when working with those referred for learning, behavioural or vocational concerns. There is also an optional written composition component which takes an additional 15 minutes to administer. Cognitive Assessment System, Second Edition (CAS2)

Measures cognitive processing abilities important for a broad range of differential diagnoses and instructional planning. The CAS2, the second edition of the DasNaglieri Cognitive Assessment System, is a wellresearched, norm-referenced measure of cognitive ability based on the well-established cognitive/ neuropsychological theory called PASS. The assessment The CAS2 Extended Battery has three subtests for each of the four PASS scales, and the Core Battery has two subtests for each of the four PASS scales. Each PASS scale as well as the CAS2 Full Scale yields a standard score with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. The four PASS scales are: •P  lanning – requires the test taker to determine, select and use a strategy to solve a problem •A  ttention – requires the test taker to selectively attend to a particular stimulus while inhibiting attention to competing stimuli

•S  imultaneous – involves integrating separate stimuli into a single whole or group • Successive – requires the serial ordering of things The CAS2 also yields five supplemental composite scores: Executive Function without Working Memory, Executive Function with Working Memory, Working Memory, Verbal Content, and Nonverbal Content. A visual versus auditory comparison is also provided. Validity with special populations – including those with speech or language impairments, those with learning disabilities, the gifted and talented, and those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorder or Asperger’s syndrome – is reported.

Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, Second Edition (CTOPP-2) Identifies students with phonological difficulties who may be at risk for reading problems. Used by both psychologists and educational professionals, the CTOPP-2: • i dentifies individuals who are significantly below their peers in important phonological abilities; •d  etermines strengths and weaknesses in already developed phonological processes; •d  ocuments individuals’ progress in phonological processing as a consequence of special intervention programmes; and •s  erves as a measurement device in research studies investigating phonological processing.

The assessment The CTOPP-2 has twelve subtests: Elision, Blending Words, Sound Matching, Phoneme Isolation, Blending Nonwords, Segmenting Nonwords, Memory for Digits, Nonword Repetition, Rapid Digit Naming, Rapid Letter Naming, Rapid Color Naming and Rapid Object Naming. Test of Word Reading Efficiency, Second Edition (TOWRE2)

Measures word reading accuracy and fluency. The TOWRE2 is a measure of the test taker’s ability to pronounce printed words (Sight Word Efficiency) and phonemically regular nonwords (Phonemic Decoding Efficiency) accurately and fluently. As it can be administered very quickly (in approximately 5 minutes) the test provides an efficient means of monitoring the growth of two kinds of word reading skills that are critical in the development of overall reading ability.

The assessment Each of the two subtests of the TOWRE2 has four alternative forms, A to D. The Sight Word Efficiency subtest assesses the number of real words printed in vertical lists that the test taker can accurately identify within 45 seconds. Similarly, the Phonemic Decoding Efficiency subtest measures the number of pronounceable nonwords presented in vertical lists that the test taker can accurately decode within 45 seconds. How the ESB helps target intervention: Jack’s story Jack had an 8-year-old elder brother with a diagnosis of ASD who attended a special school and was non-verbal. Jack presented as a late talker and his parents were worried that he might also be showing signs of ASD. He had been seen by a paediatrician who did not share the parents’ concerns. Jack had been known to the speech and language therapist for six months. The therapist was aware of the parents’ concerns and used the ESB as a tool for them to observe Jack’s relative strengths in early sociocognitive skills.

Jack’s ESB performance was consistently in the normal range with all scores at or just above average, confirming his strengths in this area. The ESB helped the therapist to demonstrate Jack’s skills and reassure his parents, enabling them to focus on the interventions needed to target his language delay.

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2)

Helps to assess and diagnose autism and pervasive developmental disorder across ages, developmental levels, and language skills. The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours. The test consists of various activities involving interactive stimulus materials (all included in the ADOS-2 kit) that elicit behaviours directly related to a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and can inform diagnosis, treatment planning, and educational placement. A range of clinicians including physicians, clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists use ADOS­-2 results to inform diagnosis, intervention, educational placement and treatment planning. This revision includes a Toddler Module which is designed for children between 12 and 30 months of age who do not consistently use phrase speech. It includes loosely structured activities with motivating materials to observe whether the child demonstrates behaviours associated with ASD. Forerunners in Communication (ComFor-2)

Assesses types of interventions suitable for improving communication in people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The ComFor-2 addresses two core questions: what is the most suitable form of augmented communication and at which level can the chosen means be offered? The assessment The test consists of a range of sorting tasks. Test takers are required to sort objects, photographs, pictures and words according to both their literally perceptible features (‘presentation’) and their meaning (‘representation’).

The scores on these tasks gives a clear indication of the level at which augmented communication should be offered. For example, does a picture of a cup only mean ‘cup’ or can it also be used to indicate the activity ‘drinking’? The ComFor-2 is a revised version of the broadly used ComFor. The test design and application are unchanged, but the test materials have been thoroughly reviewed and modernised. Paediatric Autism Communication Therapy (PACT) e-learning

Provides a clinical evaluation of symptomatology associated with eating disorders. The EDI-3 provides a clinical assessment of the symptoms associated with eating disorders. Trauma Symptom Inventory-2 (TSI‑2)

Evaluates acute and chronic post-traumatic symptomatology. The TSI-2 is designed to evaluate post-traumatic stress and other psychological sequelae of traumatic events. It evaluates acute and chronic symptomatology, including the effects of sexual and physical assault, intimate partner violence, combat, torture, motor vehicle accidents, mass casualty events, medical trauma, traumatic losses and childhood abuse or neglect.

New items were introduced into the TSI-2 validity scales to assess the test taker’s tendencies to deny symptoms that are commonly endorsed, to over-endorse unusual or bizarre symptoms, or to respond in an inconsistent or random manner. The Atypical Response validity scale was redesigned to assess not only over-reporting in general, but also the potential misrepresentation of PTSD.

The assessment The TSI-2 consists of 136 items and assesses posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dissociation, and somatisation to insecure attachment styles, impaired self-capacities and dysfunctional behaviours.

There is an alternative 126-item version of the form (TSI-2-A) from which the sexual symptom items have been removed. The TSI-2 Scoring Program provides unlimited-use software scores and profiles for the TSI-2 and the TSI-2-A after responses are entered by the test user. It generates a score report and a graphical profile of the test taker’s results, indicating the relative extent to which they are experiencing post-traumatic stress or other sequelae of traumatic events. A change score report for the TSI-2 and the TSI-2-A assists clinicians in determining whether or not significant change has occurred over time.

Trauma Symptom Checklist for Young Children (TSCYC)

Evaluates acute and chronic post-traumatic symptomatology. The TSCYC is the first fully standardised and normed broadband trauma measure for children as young as 3 years of age. Because exposure to traumatic events (e.g. child abuse, peer assaults, community violence) is an unfortunate part of many children’s lives, psychological tests for trauma effects have become an important part of the child-focused assessment battery. Unlike most other caregiver report measures, the TSCYC contains specific scales to ascertain the validity of caretaker reports (Response Level and Atypical Response) as well as providing normreferenced data (US) on the number of waking hours the caretaker spends with the child in the average week (from less than 1 hour to over 60 hours).

Scenotest

Provides a practical technique for understanding unconscious problems and personality structure in children. Assesses selective attention and concentration. In its newest iteration, the d2-R has become one of the most widely-used measures of attention – particularly visual attention – throughout Europe. Child and Adolescent Memory Profile (ChAMP)

Assesses visual and verbal memory in children, adolescents, and young adults. The ChAMP is a norm-referenced test of memory that allows both in-depth memory evaluation and memory screening. Brief and easy to administer yet comprehensive, it covers core verbal and visual memory domains using only a few subtests. Based on the latest neuroscience research on human memory, the ChAMP uses common, reallife scenarios and colourful, developmentally appropriate stimuli that are engaging and relevant to children and young people. The full assessment takes 30 to 40 minutes to administer and is suitable to use with those aged 5 to 21 years. Because it has simple response requirements, the ChAMP can be used with those who have motor impairments. Mini-Mental State Examination, Second Edition (MMSE-2)

Screens for cognitive impairment in adults. The MMSE-2 is one of the most commonly used instruments for screening cognitive function. It indicates the presence of cognitive impairment, such as in a person with suspected dementia or following a head injury, and is more sensitive in detecting cognitive impairment than the use of informal questioning or overall impression of a patient’s orientation. The MMSE-2 can be used with those who have milder forms of cognitive impairment, including subcortical dementia, and retains the clinical utility and efficiency of the original MMSE. The assessment The MMSE-2 demonstrates high equivalency with the original MMSE. It is therefore possible to switch from the original MMSE to the MMSE-2 without compromising longitudinal data and without any change to the normal range of scores.

Also available are the MMSE-2: Brief Version (MMSE-2 BV), designed for rapid assessment in a variety of settings, and the MMSE-2: Expanded Version (MMSE-2: EV), a slightly longer version which is more sensitive to subcortical dementia and to changes associated with ageing; it is sufficiently difficult that it does not have a ceiling effect. Equivalent, alternative forms (Blue and Red) of each MMSE‑2 version have been developed to decrease the possibility of practice effects that can occur over serial examinations. Neuropsychological Assessment Battery (NAB) Assesses a wide range of cognitive skills and functions. The complete NAB is a comprehensive, modular battery of 33 neuropsychological tests developed to assess a wide array of cognitive skills and functions in adults (aged 18 to 97 years) with known or suspected disorders of the central nervous system. The NAB was developed to provide a common set of core tests that serves as a comprehensive standard reference base suitable for most routine clinical applications that can be completed in less than 4 hours. The assessment The NAB consists of a Screening Module and five domain-specific modules: Attention, Language, Memory, Spatial and Executive Functions. Each of the six NAB modules is self-contained and may be administered independently of the other modules. The NAB may be purchased by individual module kits or packaged as a complete kit, thus allowing clinicians increased flexibility to focus on specific areas of concern.

Additionally, each NAB module has two equivalent parallel forms (Form 1 and Form 2) that were created and normed simultaneously with identical task/content specifications and development methodology. Oral Passage Understanding Scale (OPUS)

A measure of auditory comprehension that evaluates the test taker’s ability to listen to passages read aloud and recall information about them. The OPUS is designed to assess comprehension of spoken language in a natural context, a skill that is fundamental to classroom learning. The assessment The OPUS evaluates the test taker’s ability to integrate and apply knowledge in three structural categories of language: • lexical/semantic (knowledge and use of words and word combinations) • syntactic (knowledge and use of grammar) • supralinguistic (knowledge and use of language in which meaning is not directly available from the surface lexical and syntactic information)

Measuring higher-level comprehension skills, including inference and prediction, yields more detailed information beyond simply whether the individual can comprehend or not. These skills require deeper processing abilities and thus differentiate typically developing individuals from those with language and learning delays or disorders. The OPUS also measures memory skills, which are integral to listening comprehension. Rey Complex Figure Test and Recognition Trial (RCFT)

Measures visuospatial ability and visuospatial memory. The RCFT differentiates mildly brain-injured patients from normal patients, and braindamaged patients who have documented memory impairment but are able to live independently from those who are not. It is also able to distinguish deficient performance due to motor impairment rather than memory impairment. The RCFT captures neuropsychological functioning across five domains: • visuospatial recall memory • visuospatial recognition memory • response bias • processing speed • visuospatial constructional ability

The assessment The Recognition trial measures recognition memory for elements of the Rey complex figure and assesses the test taker’s ability to use cues to retrieve information. The 8.5" x 11" Stimulus Card contains a computerrendered replica of the original Rey complex figure. Prior to this publication, Rey’s original figure had not been available commercially. The RCFT includes a Copy trial, a 3-minute Immediate Recall trial, a 30-minute Delayed Recall trial and the Recognition trial. Studies show that the Recognition trial provides incremental diagnostic power compared with using recall trials alone. This measure standardises the complex figure testing materials and procedures, and evaluates the relative contributions of encoding, storage and retrieval processes to memory performance.

Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) Provides a quick screening for organic cerebral dysfunction. The SDMT detects cognitive impairment in less than 5 minutes. This test is an ideal way for clinicians to screen for organic cerebral dysfunction in both children (8 years and older) and adults. The SDMT is brief, easy to administer, and has demonstrated significant sensitivity in detecting not only the presence of brain damage but also changes in cognitive functioning over time and in response to treatment. The assessment The SDMT involves a simple substitution task that healthy children and adults can easily perform. Using a reference key, the test taker has 90 seconds to pair specific numbers with given geometric figures. Responses can be written or given orally, meaning that the SDMT can be used with almost anyone, including those with motor disabilities or speech disorders. Individuals with cerebral dysfunction perform poorly on the SDMT in spite of normal or above average intelligence.

Studies documented in the SDMT Manual have shown the test to be effective in a wide range of clinical applications, including: • differentiation of brain-damaged from psychotic patients; • differentiation of organics from depressives; • early detection of senile dementia and Huntington’s disease; • differential diagnosis of children with learning disorders; • early identification of children likely to have reading problems; • assessment of change in cognitive functioning over time and/or with therapy in individuals with traumatic, vascular, neoplastic and other brain insults; and • assessment of recovery from closed-head injury. The SDMT is relatively culture-free as it only involves geometric figures and numbers, and can therefore be administered to non-English speakers.

Visual Association Test (VAT) Used to detect anterograde amnesia and certain brain disorders it is connected with.

Anterograde amnesia is the core feature of an amnesic syndrome, consisting of a severe disability to register – since its onset – new experiences. The main conditions leading to anterograde amnesia are the following: • Alzheimer’s disease • Korsakoff’s syndrome • infarction in the region of the posterior cerebral artery • post-traumatic amnesia Application of the VAT is chiefly feasible when serious forgetfulness has been noted by an individual – or by others in an individual’s environment – especially when it pertains to recent events.

The test consists of two picture booklets: association cards and cue cards. The cue cards depict only one object, while the association cards show a combination of the cue and another object: the target object. In Forms A to D the cue cards are shown first, followed by the association cards. When the cue cards are shown again, the number of correctly reproduced target objects are noted on the scoring form. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability are high. Validity research shows that the VAT can discriminate between patients with Alzheimer’s dementia, other kinds of dementia, and no dementia.

The assessment The VAT contains six variants: Short Forms A, B, C, and D (6 items each), and two Long Forms (12 items each: combinations of Short Forms A & B and Short Forms C & D). The four Short Form variants can be used as parallel tests.

Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST)

Assesses perseveration and abstract reasoning. The WCST is used primarily to assess perseveration and abstract thinking, and has increased in popularity as a neuropsychological instrument. It is considered an effective measure of executive function because of its sensitivity to frontal lobe dysfunction. As such, the WCST allows the test user to assess the following frontal lobe functions: strategic planning, organised searching, utilising environmental feedback to shift cognitive sets, directing behaviour towards achieving a goal and modulating impulsive responding.

The assessment The WCST provides objective scores not only of overall success but also for specific sources of difficulty with the task (e.g. inefficient initial conceptualisation, perseveration, failure to maintain a cognitive set, inefficient learning across stages of the test). Four Stimulus Cards incorporate three stimulus parameters (colour, form and number). Test takers are required to sort numbered Response Cards according to different principles and to alter their approach during test administration. Measures the five major domains of personality, as well as the six traits or facets that define each domain. The NEO Personality Inventory is based on the Five-Factor Model (FFM) of personality, measuring the ‘Big Five’ personality domains and the six most salient specific attributes (facets) arising from each. The Rorschach Test is a projective test using bilaterally symmetrical inkblots in which the test taker’s perceptions of the images are recorded and analysed. The test is particularly powerful in its ability to capture the uniqueness of the test taker’s personality functioning, as well as having the added benefit of being able to make nomothetic comparisons. The results allow the test user to gain a deeper understanding of the test taker’s coping resources, cognitive style, self-image, emotional and interpersonal strengths and weaknesses, and potential treatment issues.

The test itself, as well as its accompanying manual, is very well known worldwide, and some experts estimate that in the field of psychology no other single creation has been the subject of a greater number of scientific papers. It is also likely that no other psychological test has been administered to more millions of people throughout the world. Psychologists and psychiatrists working in various professions – including clinical, educational, forensic and even occupational settings – may find that the Rorschach Test can inform and enrich their practice. The plates sold by Hogrefe Group companies are the only Rorschach Test plates authorised by the International Society of the Rorschach and Projective Methods (ISR) for use in Rorschach diagnostics. International Personality Disorder Examination (IPDE) Provides definite, probable or negative diagnosis for each personality disorder. The IPDE provides a uniform approach to identifying and assessing personality disorders for both the DSM-IV and ICD-10 classification systems. The interview is the most widely used of its kind and is the only personality disorder interview based on worldwide field trials.

The test taker responds with either true or false to each item and can complete the questionnaire in less than 15 minutes. Having scored the questionnaire and identified those whose scores suggest the presence of a personality disorder, the IPDE clinical interview is then administered.

The IPDE consists of a screening questionnaire – the use of which determines the need for the clinical interview – and the interview itself. The interview questions are arranged in sections (e.g. background information, work, self, interpersonal relationships) and written to offer a balance between a spontaneous, natural clinical interview and the requirements of standardisation and objectivity.

For each IPDE interview question, the corresponding personality disorder and the specific diagnostic criteria are identified with precise scoring guidelines. At least one criterion must have been present prior to 25 years of age before that particular personality disorder can be diagnosed. The test user records the scores for each response on the appropriate IPDE Answer Sheet. After the interview, the test user transcribes the scores from the IPDE Answer Sheet to the appropriate Scoring Booklet. The results from the IPDE interview allow the test user to assign a definite, probable or negative diagnosis for each personality disorder.

The assessment The IPDE Manual contains interview questions to assess either the 11 DSM-IV or the 10 ICD-10 personality disorders.

Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) Provides an objective assessment of adult psychopathology.

The PAI assesses psychopathological syndromes, providing information that is relevant for clinical diagnosis, treatment planning and screening for psychopathology. The 344 PAI items constitute 22 non-overlapping scales covering the constructs most relevant to a broad-based assessment of mental disorders. The assessment The 22 scales comprise 4 validity scales, 11 clinical scales, 5 treatment scales and 2 interpersonal scales. To help in interpretation, and to cover the full range of complex clinical constructs, 10 scales contain conceptually derived subscales. The clinical scales provide information about the critical diagnostic features of 11 important clinical constructs. These scales may be divided into 3 broad classes of disorder: those within the neurotic spectrum; those within the psychotic spectrum; and those associated with behaviour disorder or impulse control problems.

The treatment scales provide indicators of potential complications in treatment that would not necessarily be apparent from diagnostic information. These include indicators of potential for harm to self or others, measures of the test taker’s environmental circumstances and an assessment of the test taker's motivation to undertake treatment. The interpersonal scales provide an assessment of the test taker’s interpersonal style along two dimensions: a warmly affiliative versus cold rejecting style, and a dominating/controlling versus meekly submissive style. These axes provide a useful way of conceptualising many different mental disorders.
