How to Participate in General Room Selection

DIVISION OF STUDENT ENROLLMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND SUCCESS RESIDENCE LIFE

Who can Participate in the General Room Selection Process?

Current students living on campus during the spring semester are eligible to participate in the General Room Selection Process if they:

1. Have no outstanding balances with the Office of Student Financial Services.

2. Register full time for the fall 2023 semester.

3. Complete an online Housing Application.

First Steps

There are two important steps that will need to be completed in order to successfully participate in the General Room Selection Process.

1) Complete your online housing application. If you intend to reside with roommates and suitemates, you must complete the “Roommate Selection” page on the housing application. Students who wish to live together will need a confirmed roommate group to ensure a successful selection process.

2) Select your Room by participating in the General Selection Process on your designated day. Please visit https://www.hofstra.edu/residence-life/housing-selection-returning-residents.h tml for Important Room Selection Dates.

Things to remember

when selecting a multiple occupancy room with a Roommate Group

• If you are in a roommate group with a student that is of a higher class standing, that student can select a room for the group.

• If you are in a roommate group, you MUST assign EVERYONE in the roommate group in order to successfully select your room.

• The housing system will show you ALL ROOM TYPES that will fit your group. Please keep in mind, if you are in a roommate group of two or three, the system will show you ALL ROOM TYPES that will fit your group. This means, if you select a 4 person suite, you may be residing with roommates that may not be familiar with.

• When selecting a room to accommodate your group, it is imperative that you filter by room type to ensure you are assigning you and your group to your desired room type choice.

• If a room type filter DOES NOT appear, this means there is only one room type left to select from. Before selecting, be sure the room type that is showing, is the room type you wish to select for your group.

Selecting a Room with NO Roommate Group

If you are participating in the General Selection Process with NO requested roommates and /or suitemates, the housing system will show you available:

• High Rise singles, suite singles and Super Singles.

• Vacant spaces available in multiple occupancy rooms(i.e. High Rise: double, triples, quads and suites with and without lounges etc.)

• When selecting a room, it is imperative that you filter by room type to ensure you are assigning yourself your desired room type choice.

• Please note: If you are assigning yourself to a multiple occupancy room, you may be residing with a roommate and, or suitemate(if applicable) with whom you are not familiar.
