There are all sorts of video games in the world today. It’s a billion dollar industry. Well, for the industry to survive, the video game makers need for someone to play their games. The gamers are all different, but in taking a look at the players, I have been able to separate them in different categories. There are three types of video game players: The occasional player, the frequent player, and the addictive player.
First, the occasional gamer plays several hours a week, and doesn’t think past his playing. For this type of player, I introduce Bob. Bob is an occasional player, he plays altogether only a few hours a week on gaming, most of them from free online games offered at a click of a mouse. He doesn’t really care for the games, but does get pleasure in playing; yet if the phone rung, he would close the game, answer the phone, and not think about the game ever again. For Bob, and occasional player like him, gaming does not run their lives. People who fall in the category of occasional player, usually play on the provided computer at work, during lunch break. Play games like Solitaire, minesweeper, maybe go to websites like freeonlinegames.com or q104.com the gaming section, where simple clicking and no brain stress is required. Occasional gamers use the quick games, to get their heads cleared and freshened so that when the break is over, productivity is up.
Next, the frequent gamer plays ten to twelve hours a week, and uses gaming to escape to a virtual world to relieve stress. In the case of a frequent player, I introduce Tom, a friendly face, with a wife and two kids, works a nine to five job, and is an ideal
model for the people around him. However there is a dark side to Tom, when he comes home, he likes to go to the computer and spend a couple of hours on the computer playing video games. Frequent players function normally in society, pay their bills, have friends, and have families. But, unlike Bob, if a phone rang while Tom was at the computer game, he would put a game on pause, finish talking, and then resume the game. The frequent gamer plays more complex games, and will go to a store to buy a video game. The games require having some skill, and brain power. Tom uses both the Console, such as the Playstation, Xbox 360, and also the computer, and buys games to try out accordingly. Another difference between the occasional players and the frequent players is that the frequent gamers join online gaming communities. Players like Tom tend to join
