LAWDAY Each year in the month of May, our nation dedicates a day toward educating citizens of all ages about the legal system.
Law Day celebrates the American heritage of liberty, justice and equality with the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Monroe County Bar Association, as well as other bar associations across the Commonwealth sponsoring the dayâ€™s activities.

events include a Law Day Ceremony & Essay Contest, Fairy Tale Trials & Law Day Race â€“Race Judicata.
Joining Law Day efforts, Monroe County Bar Association sponsors a Creative Art Project or Essay Contest. High school students in Monroe County are invited to participate by entering a piece. Each year the theme is different surrounding an element of the law. Contestants are judged by a panel of MCBA members on creativity, clarity, originality, and how effectively the project conveys the ideals of America. Cash awards are given to the top three contestants. Winning students and their guests are also invited to Law Day Ceremonies to present their project.
This popular race has obliged participants of all ages over 30 years â€œrunningâ€?. Each year Monroe County Bar Association encourages all to enjoy a morning trek with 100% of the proceeds going toward a worthy cause. A fitting close to Law Day celebrations, Race Judicata attracts not only runners of all skill levels but spectators eagerly applauding success in completing the 5K course. An award ceremony recognizing speed, endurance and the ideals of comradery concludes the afternoon.
Over twenty years, Monroe County Bar Association attorneys and judges have presented a mock trial to 5th and 6th grade students of Monroe County dressed as characters from their favorite fairytale discovering children have a better understanding of the law when told in this comfortable, often comical atmosphere. Goldilocks has been presented on trial for breaking into the Three Bears home. Performing Dependency Cases with Snow White and Criminal Prosecution of the Big Bad Wolf for the homicide of two pigs even charging Robin Hood for robbery have all been a part of Fairy Tale Trials. Participation key, MCBA selects students from the audience to sit on the jury. Once the trial is over, students have the chance to ask questions to our attorneys and presiding judges.
Law Day Ceremonies include a Liberty Bell Award presentation by the Monroe County Bar Association to a person in the community who has promoted a better understanding of the rule of law, encouraged greater respect for the law and courts, as well as tirelessly ignites a sense of civic responsibilities. Each year this man or woman stands before MCBA members and Monroe County judges to accept his/her accolades while describing the catalyst that has influenced their philanthropic achievements.
Mock Trial Statewide competition gives students the opportunity to portray attorneys & witnesses in civil, as well as criminal cases while presenting before a judge with lawyers acting as a jury.
Mock Trial Invitationals are held at a local high school where student teams compete against each other in trials created by a committee of local attorneys. Invitational Competitions help students prepare for the Regional Competition at the state level
One of the largest in the nation, Pennsylvania Statewide Competitions are broken down into districts then regions.
