Diverging Conventions Diverging conventions is the exploration of the potential trajectories of architectural representation conventions in the post digital era. In order to do this we have undertaken a series of exercises that would allow the progressive design and finalized form of a musuem located under the Brooklyn Bridge Landing in Dumbo.

Making Machines: The new MakerSpace as the new factory was the exploration of a Makerspace on a larger scale. As a result of this the Green Angle is a community initiative that would combine flexible thinking with progressive typology.Through the Urban Design program locals not only recycle day to day to resources but incorporate them into sustainable design schemes. In this instance the program focuses on a creative approach between wooden pallets and plant life within the city. The primary focus being on how the wooden pallets can be combined with the plants in order to provide a demonstration that can be recreated within the city on how recyclables and plants can be used to alleviate the city of one it’s many problems. In addition to this the program is carried out within a CLT constructed building that is of a mixed used program , ncorporating a green facade and stimulating a new approach to urban life.

Unity Pavilion Unity Pavilion is a design intervention project found in Brownsville, Brooklyn a neighborhood in NYC with the highest concentration of social housing in the nation. Integrating the 3 modes of interaction, the project uses the symbolic fist as a representation of Brownsville’s strength and resiliance, irridescent material and LEDs provide light at night to invite people to inhabit public space. The pavilion is meant to be a gathering space to discuss crime and ease tension, alongside promoting conversation amongst unlikely pairs ( the mode of spatial interaction). The benches need two people for stability and calls for social interaction to occur through the mode of physical accomplishment and seeing ”the other”. The material chosen for the slats are paintable and will be written on by the Brownsville students of the Made in Brownsville intiative, giving them ownership of the space. Furthermore, materials used for this pavilion are not only weather resistant and durable but were done within a $2,500 budget.

Long Island City Library Design Proposal Within this studio we were tasked we designing a new library for the site chosen. In this instance the site was 4-09 47th Road adjacent of the Gantry Plaza State Park. In considering the structure we also had to take into account several significant details. These included but were not limited to the pre-existing site conditions, the local populace and regional climate. A strong driving force behind this would be the question of what a successful modern library is.

Archipelagopolis: A New Manhattan

Inspired by the Randall Plan of 1811 coupled with research of Manhattan before and after its comission, a new idea was born for present day Manhattan. An idea that came from the general observation and agreement that the Plan of 1811 ignored issues such as flooding, transportation and nature within Manhattan. This idea was Archipelagoplis, a design that would excavate land creating canals and ,with the land excavated, elevate the surrounding regions. In doing so the Archipelagopolis would provide Manhattan with an oppurtunity to preserve nature, diminsh flooding risks and have a healthier means of transportation

Stockholm Public Library The Stockholm Public Library was designed by Gunnar Asplund. The library is municipal building illustrating Asplund move from Classicism to Functionalism. This we discovered and plenty more through an analytical study of the library.

Parrish Musuem

This project involved visiting Parrish Musuem designed by Herzog & De Mueron. In doing so we were able to analyze the structure, materials and style used to construct the building. Following this we would then create analytic drawings of the different aspects and ultimately build the Parrish Musuem at a smaller scale.

One Man House

The One Man House is the work of Thomas Schutte. In analyzing said work we were able to not only understand the architects intent but also his concept of continous space through connected volumes.
