An Important Message For Our Fans! Fan enthusiasm and support are a great part of baseball and active cheering is encouraged. Nevertheless, individuals conduct must be bound by the rights of others to enjoy the game. Fan behavior cannot unreasonably offend others or be abusive of players. You are requested to be considerate at all times of the feelings of the players and sensitivities of those fans seated around you. Hopefully, this request is all that is necessary for proper fan conduct. Please set a good example for all of our children. Your cooperation is appreciated — enjoy the baseball game!

Program Goals 1) To influence each player to be exceptional student athletes, role-models in the classroom, as well as on the field. 2) To enhance each player’s high school baseball experience through reinforcement and mastery of basic fundamentals and the development of team concepts in a highly competitive environment. 3) To help athletes develop a sense of teamwork, pride, effort, self-discipline, & self-motivation. 4) To provide top-notch coaches who genuinely care about the student athletes and the team and not just winning. 5) To assist the college bound athlete in gaining visibility for future college recruiters. 6) For the student athlete to learn to represent themselves, their parents, and the school in a class manner.

2009 Seniors

History of the Shadow Ridge Facility Shadow Ridge High School was established as a comprehensive public high school within the Clark County School District in 2003. In the fall of 2002, Dr. Cathy Andrews, an experienced and highly innovative administrator, was appointed as the school’s first principal. By February 2003, Dr. Andrews had appointed Mr. Ray DePalma as assistant principal, Mrs. Barbara Clark as head counselor, the department chairpersons, and the office staff. At a quiet breakfast meeting early in 2 003, Dr. Andrews, Mr. DePalma, and Mrs. Clark conceived the vision that has matured into the spirit of Shadow Ridge High School. Future students, their parents, and the small group of administrators, department chairpersons, and office staff united at Leavitt Middle School to adopt the school colors, navy and tan, the school mascot, the strong-willed mustang, and to establish the mission and belief statements. By May 2 003, with most of the faculty officially appointed, textbook selection and curriculum development began in earnest. T extbook and supply orders were placed and the dream of Shadow Ridge became a reality. At staff development day in May 2003, the individuals who would comprise the inaugural faculty and staff of Shadow Ridge High School came together for the first time as Mustangs. As a way of introducing this new community to future students and their parents, faculty and staff planned a number of activities and athletic nights which were well attended by enthusiastic future Mustangs. T hroughout the summer, the faculty and staff anxiously awaited the targeted move-in day scheduled for early August. Fall sports teams and performing arts groups practiced at neighboring fields and schools to be ready to compete against more established schools, registration of new students continued at Leavitt Middle School, and everyone waited for necessary supplies to be delivered. Finally, on August 13, 2003, after numerous construction delays, the Shadow Ridge campus, located at the base of Sheep Mountain in the northwest section of the Las Vegas valley, was approved for opening. Faculty and staff labored to distribute materials and supplies, number textbooks and other resources, and decorate classrooms before the school year began. Although everything was not quite in place-computer classes were without computers, science lab supplies were still pack ed away in storage rooms, and textbooks had yet to find their way to campus, let alone into most classrooms- students poured through the doors on August 25, 2003. Amidst the excitement permeating the new building on that first day, there was a marked sadness among administration, faculty, and staff when the passing of Assistant Principal Ray DePalma was announced. Indeed a tragic and disheartening event, his dream for Shadow Ridge continued to unfold throughout the first year. In memory of his dedication, the football field was named in his honor. T he school opened with 1,750 students in ninth through eleventh grade. T he freshmen were assigned to inter-disciplinary teams, which were housed in the northwest section of the campus. All 9th grade students shared a common instructor in science, English, mathematics, computers, and study skills. T he teams worked closely during their common planning period to assure the transition from middle school to high school was successful for each student. Although the teachers were taxed by the freshmen enrollment, 725 students to the 600 expected, the team members banded together to provide an exciting and rewarding experience for their students, despite the large class numbers and lack of materials and textbooks. T he school operated on a four by four block with students attending four eighty minute classes per day. T he block schedule allowed for a greater variety of innovative classes, such as 9th grade study skills and 10th grade college survival skills, to prepare students for success throughout high school and beyond. At the close of the first year, Shadow Ridge saw another major change as Principal Andrews retired from the Clark County School District and Mr. T homas Barberini was appointed as the new principal. Mr. Barberini, with a new vision and direction for Shadow Ridge, opened the 2004-2005 school year with a wide variety of changes to be implemented over the course of the next two years. Embracing the spirit of the strong-willed mustang, Mr. Barberini worked diligently with his new faculty and staff his first year to design a strong, innovative curriculum, strengthen the school’s technology resources, and modify policies to better reflect that of an academically competitive high school. With many of the changes implemented, a new era dawned at Shadow Ridge High School at the opening of the 2 005-2006 school year. T he 2004-2005 school year saw the student population increase to 2,450 students with the addition of a senior class. T he school’s first senior class had their diplomas conferred upon them during a moving commencement ceremony on J une 15, 2005 at the Orleans Arena. Sixty-one students received honors diplomas, 235 students received standard diplomas, 125 students received advanced diplomas and twelve students received certificates of attendance. T he Class of 2 005 gifted its alma mater with a clock which stands sentinel at the front doors of the school reminding everyone who enters what our community has achieved.
